FTFA:Union officials are seeking rule changes that would make their low-income workers eligible for the same types of federal subsidies they could get in the exchanges. They have also suggested rules that would treat their multi-employer plans as qualified exchange plans under the new law.

So they're very upset about Obamacare because...they want to have shortcuts to get covered under Obamacare.

wow much damning wow so rude

Yes, I'm sure unions will encourage their members to vote for the party that wants to eliminate them.

The article I read suggests that they want to be able to participate more fully in Obamacare and are seeking changes in the legislation to do that.  Of course those changes won't happen because congress... but still.

Honestly, US...  it's time to consider single payer or a mix of public funding and heavily regulated non-profit private insurance.  Thinking that healthcare is something that is compatible with a free market mentality is just foolish... anyone even remotely familiar with economics can tell you that.

For-profit insurance "works" (read: profitable) by denying care to as many paying customers as possible.  It's antithetical to the purpose of providing affordable care.

Though I'm sure it's only a coincidence that the US pays so much more per capita for heath care than any other country.  Invisible hand!!!

Sorry, but unions are not the same as people in their twenties with zero life experience who think they know everything because they read the Atlas Shrugged CliffsNotes.

They're taken for granted by the democrats.  Everything the democrats have said that they would do for unions they have not done.  Especially the Employee Free Choice Act.

Democrat governors have been doing just as shiatty things to unions as Scott Walker has but they aren't getting the press for it because democrats did it.  Unions throwing their weight behind a third party could shake things up.

That's the problem with a two party system.  You could say the same about the GOP and the "pro-life" movement.  But it'll be a cold day in hell if (barring major party policy shifts) the unions side with the Republicans or the pro-lifers to to the Dems.

And the fact of the matter is, this public grievance by the union in the article is probably just to be a squeaky wheel.  Anyone who has even a glance at the political situation in the US knows that absolutely nothing is going to get done regarding healthcare unless it's something either Obama or the courts can make happen unilaterially.  The GOP would never let a bill that strengthens the ACA through the House or the Senate.

the blaze was screaming about how the longshoremen were disaffiliating from the AFL-CIO because of obamacare. as it turned out, they were splitting because they felt that the AFL-CIO wasn't forceful enough in campaigning for a stronger healthcare reform bill AND hadn't advocated for stronger immigration reform.

They should have quit during the AFL-CIO convention.  It would have made a bigger impact.

Pretty much since Obama was elected the first time, the right wing has posted stories about the way liberals are upset with something Obama has done. And they also publish stories about the way that liberals are in lock-step behind Obama because liberals think Obama is some sort of infallible messiah.
This headline manages to get all of this into one six-word sentence. It's like subby divided by zero and came up with a new substance called "anti-thought."

This is a common misconception, mostly among the mis-infromed.  The excise tax on so-called Cadillac plans will actually be levied on the insurance companies.  They may pass this along by raising rates, but it is not a direct tax on the insured.

The more you know.

Here's something to remind the Ayn Rand wannabes:  Hank Rearden ran a union shop and paid his workers better than his competitors.
