Yeah, guess what, there's a whole list of people I'll never reach out after I leave my hellhole of a job. Will there be a news article about that?

Look - if you are a Bears fan and didn't know Urlacher was a bit of a dick - where has your head been for the last 13 year?

He was a dick yes, but I loved how he played for the Bears - he never got busted for having more guns in his house than the CPD (Tank) or wrapped his Ferrari around a lamp post (Briggs) - He also is not as good a citizen as Peanut, but he did his job until it wrecked his body - and he played his entire career for 1 team.

Since Sweetness there has not been a banner player for the Bears outside of Urlacher - love him or hate him he is in the team picture of greatest Bears players ever. I also agree with him that Orton was the right QB for this team, it also explains why he and Cutler did not get along even though they both dated high profile pseudo celebrities and had sour temperaments.

bacongood: Is Urlacher trying to make Chicago hate him?

Why stop now?

As p the boiler stated, he was a dick... but he was  ourdick.  He had the look of a classic Bears ML with *just* enough football charm to make us temporarily forget how much of a dick he was.

I do kind of find it odd that Cutty didn't call him, but who the hell knows what went on there.

Maybe one day Urlacher will calm down and mellow out and have fond, pleasant things to say about his team.

Right now, we're still getting aftershocks of a poorly handled contract talk with Emery which led to a lot of bad blood.

Might have something to do with that warm welcome you extended to Jay when we traded for him you immature dolt.

Too bad the bouncers stopped him from picking a fight with Bas Rutten. That would've been hilarious

Singletary was on the field the same time as Sweetness (well, not literally since he was defense, but you get the point) - I should have said since the players on the '85 team because you could throw a bunch of those guys on the all time list - but not a lot of them have the same name recognition outside Chicago - even Iron Mike gets a lot of his current recognition for pantsing himself in SF

He played half his career after Sweetness retired and was All-Pro the entire time and is in the HOF.  He was clearly a banner player and has just as much name recognition now as Urlacher will have in 10 years.  He was far more than just a guy from the '85 team (i.e. Perry, or anyone on the offense not Sweetness).

"So then the Bears signed this guy Jay Cutler. Yeah, he's going to bring some talent to the struggling offense. I mean really, who was the last player on the Bears offense that hasn't been a punchline, really. Anyhow, then I went to the media and slammed him saying 'he's no leader' and 'We already had a winning QB in Kyle Orton so the trade made no sense.' So anyways, here is this guy I specifically went OUT of my way to cause trouble for and undermine both in the press and locker room. And he has the BALLS to NOT call me and be my friend after I turn down a generous sunset offer from the only professional team I have played for."

I do think its funny that Urlacher is shilling for Comcast in the Chicago market telling people to NOT sign up for DirectTV due to the 2 year contract. Heh, I know I am definitely taking Urlacher's word about what contracts to sign and what contracts not to sign.

When Urlacher answered he question he stated "as you said, maybe we weren't as close..." so the interviewer discussed this situation before the question and offered up the "maybe not as close" answer. Almost like he talked Urlacher down from some harsher things was saying about Jay.

I'm in the camp that says Singletary was better than he looked because of the guys he played next to.

I'll take Cutler over Orton every f'ing day of the week.  Orton was benched for TIM TEBOW, and I'm not even sure what he's doing now.  Backing up Romo?  Cutler has decision making problems, and feels like his arm can get him out of any trouble, but he has a way higher upside.  When you look at arm strength and scrambling ability, he may be the most physically gifted QB in the league.  This year will tell us if he can live up to his potential, as the new Bears management have finally realized that he needs talent in front of him, not turnstiles like Webb.

Urlacher, for a guy who hated talking to the media, sure seems to enjoy it now.  I think he actually believed that Bears fans would revolt against the team to support him.  We all (at least the smart fans) saw that Brian just can't farking play anymore.  Nothing to be ashamed of, it happens to every player.  He's one of the best Bears of all time, and that's saying something for a team that has the history that Chicago has.  But Jesus,

2013-09-13 01:53:24 PM
Oops, accidentally the whole my last sentence.

But Jesus, Urlacher needs to stop with the whiny shiat and just keep being the strong silent guy.  Whether he likes it or not, this is an offensive league now, and the Bears are trying to modernize.  If you have to have a QB who is a bit of a diva to give you your best shot at winning, you farking go with it.

Singletary was the only guy in the entire Southwest Conference who would try to tackle Earl Campbell head-on.

Not the smartest idea in the world, but undeniably badass.

He's 30 and this is his eighth season in the league. Every year is the year "he's going to live up to his potential." It's not happening. Come to grips with it.

Maybe I'm not saying that right - I don't think he's going to develop into something he's not.  I think that the Bears will finally make the best use of him with the new offense, and actual talent around him.  Jay will always be the guy who throws right to an opponent, but with better talent to throw to and block for him, his positives will outweigh his negatives significantly.  By saying "potential," I meant "current ability."  Just that his current ability was completely undermined by an archaically-run football team.

Take last week as an example.  Yes, it's a small sample size, but it was a quality opponent with a great pass rush.  Jay didn't get sacked once (and the farking plays were called in on time), and magically he had a good passer rating, only made one terrible throw (with a defender grabbing his shoulder), and we didn't see Cutler face.

2013-09-13 02:41:40 PM
Fair enough. Sucks that Cutler is finally getting everything, so people will pretend he's great, as though there are QBs in the league that wouldn't perform well with a good O-Line, good WRs, good RBs, and good coaching.

/well, maybe not Gabbert

That's why it's so tough to evaluate QBs in football.  It's such a team game.  With guys like Rodgers, you see QBs who can put a bad team on their shoulders and make them better.  Those guys are few and far between, though.  With everyone else, you have to look at results while taking into account quality of teammates and quality of opponents, and you can never really be sure what you're seeing.  At least I can't.  I'm (admittedly) more knowledgeable about baseball and MMA than football (I've really only been watching football in-depth since 2004, and I never played it).

Yup. And honestly, I feel like there are several players who are not in the NFL who could be - the problem is that they got into a situation with the wrong team at the wrong time.

Like, for example, Matt Flynn - if he'd been a starter coming out of college, he'd probably be a mediocre starter for some team today. But because he came out and got stuck behind Rodgers, then Wilson, it makes it easier and easier for teams to just say "nah, not good" based on a couple of preseason possessions. He's not BAD, he just doesn't have a ton of upside, and the places looking for starters need a lot of upside, and the places where he'd be successful are set at QB.

Hell, he might be better than Alex Smith, but Smith got several years as a starter and now he's a starter without ever having been challenged for the KC job.

It makes it very frustrating when dealing with people that think that NFL teams always play the best players and everyone who isn't on a team simply isn't good enough. Cameron Wake wasn't good enough to play in the NFL, went to the CFL, and then magically turned into a perennial Pro-Bowler?
