It's good to encourage proper  smartphone and tablet etiquette at a young age.

The movie theater is one of the few remaining sanctums where you're largely safe from the annoying glow of smartphones and tablets.

First sentence of the article and the author already lost credibility.

Can't be worse than the couple that was a few (empty) seats from me.
They were either newlyweds or just dating.

Just would not stop whispering to each either during the whole film.

kinda of a bit of un-needed outrage about this

this is a special screening, meant for children

if your an adult going to this, i would be more worried about you then the 5 year old playing some movie tie in game

Welcome to the future, folks.

Just wait until they start doing product tie-in prizes that have people live tweeting during movies.

Uh fark that. No no no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no  no.

Do that at home. Bad enough with phones at the damn theater.

Agreed.  Kids watch tv and play on their ipads while talking with friends all the time.  (so do I, truth be told).  This will be a bunch of kids doing just that at an event specifically geared towards doing exactly that.  They'll have a blast.  Let the kids have their fun.  Let the people providing the entertainment and venue make their dough and quit whining.

Sup dawg! I heard you like movies....

2013-09-12 05:21:51 PM
So they can direct market to them, I'm sure.  Not that I'd go to any of these anyway, but I'd hope the app doesn't play any music or noises.  I was at a baseball game the other day when there was an Amber Alert.  It turned the entire stadium into the inside of a kazoo.

Only because someone at Disney had the good sense to convince the BoD to hitch themselves to Marvel while the rocket's still in flight.

Still better than the 8 year old who had to give a running inquiry on "what did he/she/it do?" louder than the movie. Yet I'm the asshole for telling the mother to shut her child up. As if to just highlight how entitled she is she asked me what my problem was, dude. It kept the kid quite for all of 10 minutes.

Parents aren't adults? Or are you suggesting you should leave a five year old alone in theater with really expensive gadgetry?

Did you read the article, this is being played in special screenings as an interactive movie, like Rocky horror picture show, to a well known movie kids can sing along to.

Well, I guess you should be worried about me then.

I'm in my 30s and I'd go see The Little Mermaid in the theater again.   So would my girlfriend, I think. She loves the song Part of Your World.

I'm a pretty normal person otherwise.  Is it really THAT weird?

"Because of Disney's close ties with Apple, Android devices will not be supported" (from the article about this I read this morning) really bugged me, for some reason. NOT a fanboi, but only the little twatmonster with the iPad gets to have all the fun? And how the hell many times can you sit through TLM, anyway?

2013-09-12 05:35:16 PM
I can totally understand why everyone is so upset about this. It's not like there's some way to watch movies in an environment you control -- it's strictly necessary to go into public to see this quarter-century-old film, so it's perfectly reasonable to expect all of society to conform to your movie-viewing preferences.

/ Some people are so inconsiderate, with their having different preferences than me

Yet another reason not to go to movie theaters. There are many.

Just got an image of a roomful of 5-year-olds vamping it up while belting out "I'm just a sweet transvestite, from transsexual Transylvania."

How am I being dense? They did the test phase, this is the implementation phase now. Now I, as an adult who goes with his children, have to deal with bright screens and a cacophony of sounds.

If this was a new movie coming out and Disney was pulling this, I could see the outrage. But it's the Little Mermaid on the big screen. If you're going to this you're either an adult with children going so you can do the whole sing along thing, or you're an adult shelling out 13+ bucks to see a movie that you probably have two copies of floating around your house.

It's not that weird. You're just not the target demographic for this specific even aimed at children.

Then don't take your kids to that showing, dillweed.  You do make that decision, don't you?

So any child without a Apple device will start whining and begging their parents to buy them one? I'm sure there's not a parent alive that's fallen for that old trap before.

/Disney is now a "lifestyle" product

Apparently you don't have kids. I guess I could just say no to everything since most kids activities have an annoying aspect to them.

You have kids and you honestly care what he thinks?  because I have kids and I don't give a flying f*** what someone else who doesn't have kids thinks when i'm actually at a kids event.

Kids are noisy, dirty, restless and annoying, but they're still a ton of fun with you learn to work with it!

And you would be wrong.  I have two; 10 and 13.  I take them to do things that they enjoy and I have fun watching them have fun.  If it's an insufferable burden to you I'm sure you act insufferable. If it's going to be that big of a deal to you, don't put you or them in that situation.

I don't think we need any more encouragement for the "shoot up the movie theater" crowd.

My growing hate for people has kept me out of movie theaters for the last 4 years or so. I have a big plasma TV, a BluRay player, a good sound system, and a kitchen. I need not this "theater" experience to add stress to my life.
