PC LOAD LETTER: You know who else was a Christian?

Um, no. He wanted the general populace to believe that, but he was big time into the occult.

It's not my job to do your research for you. I know you're just being snarky, but if you really don't know the difference than you should pick up a book sometime.

enemy of the state: de_Selby: DrunkWithImpotence: Heliovdrake: To be fair Christianity is more in line with communism then capitalism

Well, Catholicism at least is supposed to be aligned with neither.   Rerum Novarum is possibly the most under-read and under appreciated encyclical ever written.  It's sort of a giant f-you to both Communism and to total unregulated Capitalism.  Private property and private business are good things, but it goes on to point out that wage slavery is a sin.  Kind of an interesting read actually...

or for those of you with short attention spans..

I love the fact that a "living wage" is defined as enough money for a laborer to support not only himself, but his whole family in a simple but dignified manner.  Try telling that to most corporations today...

I love you.

The Church takes alot of shiat on fark, but the fact remains that a "living wage" is one of the fundamentals of the faith.

/Church also has no problem with evolution, etc., and in fact takes the official line that by definition there can be no conflict between science and religious beliefs.
//Also, party line is that 'faith' is a gift. You do the best you can, believe what you can, and that's good enough.

You give diplomatic immunity to ONE child molester...

Except for that whole opiate for the masses thing and all.

Actually in context Marx meant that religion helps the poor bear the pains of being exploited and shat on. Consider too that they hadn't invented aspirin yet, or Tylenol: opiates and/or booze were all they had for pain then.

But I came to call Gorbachev a traitor, and now I have.

Modified Wooden Paper Towel Holder: Modified Wooden Paper Towel Holder: WeenerGord: Modified Wooden Paper Towel Holder: First Sulu, then Spock... Now Gorbachev. Wow.

Bullshiat, Kirk and Spock are both Jews.

Jews can't be gay?

I was talking about Zachary Quinto being a gay

TFA was about Gorbachev being a Christian, not gay hence Nimoy being Jewish remark.

Also, saying Spock and meaning Quinto is like Referring to James Bond and meaning George Lazenby or Doctor Who and meaning Paul McGann. Sure it is technically correct, but it is going to confuse the hell out of everyone.

saberXray: Silverstaff:

Or you know, that could only be binding on one denomination.  I know the Catholic Church likes to claim it's the only valid form of Christianity, but an awful lot of Christians aren't on board with that claim.

It's just as fair as when the enlightened Fark Atheists paint all Christians with the same brush.
/Semi-Agnostic

Or when the semi-agnostics do the same with all "enlightened Fark Atheists."

It's true that I don't have nice liberal haute-bourgeois Episcopalians specifically in mind when I criticize Christianity, but they're weird.

But then the "Old Testament" does say that God hates "men who lie with men" (Leviticus 20:13), though that's part of the old Law that's not binding on Christians. Fundies who claim otherwise should be following the rest of Leviticus, including making sin offerings (Lev. 4), and eating only "clean" animals (Lev. 11)  and how to treat people with skin diseases (Lev. 13), etc. etc etc. Or are they just "cafeteria Christians" who select out only a few parts of the Bible they feel ike following, hmmmm?!?

If you claim to follow the whole Bible as the word of God then dangnabbit follow the whole Bible as the word of God, including the parts that are inconvenient given today's lifestyles. (Though I will allow that modern ways of solid waste disposal obviate Deuteronomy 23:12-13.) You should especially follow the words of Jesus in Matthew 22:39, which I should not have to quote for any real believer in "the Son of God."
