Well, Catholicism at least is supposed to be aligned with neither.   Rerum Novarum is possibly the most under-read and under appreciated encyclical ever written.  It's sort of a giant f-you to both Communism and to total unregulated Capitalism.  Private property and private business are good things, but it goes on to point out that wage slavery is a sin.  Kind of an interesting read actually...

I have, and I find it ironic that he's referring to Bokononism, which was a made-up religion designed to be an actual "opiate of the masses" for the people of San Lorenzo in Vonnegut's novel.

So a Catholic document from 1891 is supposed to speak for all forms of Christianity?

I'm sure that the Orthodox, Mormons, Anglicans/Episcopals, Jehovah's Witnesses, Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, and Lutherans will be so happy to know that their position on economics and politics is firmly and decisively settled by something Pope Leo XIII said 122 years ago.

Or you know, that could only be binding on one denomination.  I know the Catholic Church likes to claim it's the only valid form of Christianity, but an awful lot of Christians aren't on board with that claim.

The Church takes alot of shiat on fark, but the fact remains that a "living wage" is one of the fundamentals of the faith.

/Church also has no problem with evolution, etc., and in fact takes the official line that by definition there can be no conflict between science and religious beliefs.
//Also, party line is that 'faith' is a gift. You do the best you can, believe what you can, and that's good enough.

I only said that because the Pope can not be expected to speak for every "Christian" out there...  there are many other good sects, but there are also assholes like the WBC, and the people who carry signs saying "GOD HATES XYZ".
