Mugato: Give me 80 bucks per ticket to tell you how much rich people suck!

I'd rather give Louis my 80 bucks than 95% of all the other comics out there.  Like the Hispanic guy who talks about gangs in a fake barrio accent, the black guy who talks about "white people be crazy", the white aging frat douche who tries to joke about anything, the fat guy who talks about airplane seats, the lady comic who talks about failed relationships, the guy who makes funny noises in the microphone, and so on and so on.  At least Louis has sort a story with his act.  It's basically just him and his perspective rather than a string of lame jokes.

Heh, that's actually a great quote.

Sometimes it's crazy to me to remember watching Louis back when he looked like this.

I remember when he did that Young Comedians special back in the mid-90s along with Attell and Chappelle

I'm missing how Louis C.K.'s bank account really has any impact on any of his material.  In fact, unless he's cracking "Man it sucks to be poor" jokes I don't think it has any bearing at all.  Most of his material is about getting older, being married, divorced, raising kids, and life in general.  His wealth or lack thereof strikes me as irrelevant.

2013-09-12 04:39:50 PM
One of my favorite bits of his is when he describes that everyone his daughter knows is going to die and the sun is going to explode

2013-09-12 04:41:22 PM
His comedy comes from a very angry place, and that wears thin after a while.

His bit about "believeees" and being in the first class seat and thinking about how he should give it up to a military man - but doesn't do it because he doesn't actually give a shiate.... love it.

Louis knows he has limited time left in the spotlight. He doesn't shy away from it at all.

Best episode since "Nightman cometh".. A lot of IASIP is grimy and just leaves you feeling kinda gross and dumb.. but sometimes, it's outta nowhere funny.

I think CK's bit is more about how life is kind of awesome, but people are shiatty. Like people complaining about internet on planes, or smart phones getting information from space. Sure a lot of it is cynical, but he doesn't come off (to me) as angry about the whole world and everything in it. And thankfully he doesn't have to scream the whole time. And also, as others point out, he does lots of material about him getting older and out of shape and dating again, and his daughter. Pretty nice mix of topics.

/saw him live this past year

Bill Burr is also hilarious. As is Christopher Titus. Who are you bizarre people that can only afford to laugh at one comedian at a time? There are a LOT of bad comedians out there today, and Louis CK just isn't one of them.

Overrated.

What do I prefer? I dunno. I'm sort of sick of stand-up comics. Don Rickles was good. Carlin was good. Richard Pryor was good. Joan Rivers had her moments in the 80s. Billy Crystal didn't suck. Janeane Garofallo was good until G.W. Bush was elected. Paula Poundstone was unique. Ded Bob was fun in the 90s. Eddie Murphy did good stand up. Lewis Black is funny in small doses. The Amazing Jonathon was enjoyable.

But CK? Bleh. He basically lifts a bunch of ideas from other comics decades ago and presents them in his "frustrated white guy" routine. It appeals to fratboys and businessman types. Bros, basically. It's the kind of humor I'd expect to hear on a wacky morning crew DJ show, or on an ESPN sports talk show.

I agree. I really liked his one-hour where he talks about having to play dumb at hide and seek with his daughter, yet each time a new special comes up, I find myself waiting for the story to develop while he impulsively jumps between cum shots in his eye and what it would be like to blow a guy.

Personally, I'm a huge Kevin Hart fan. He seems to know what it means to tell stories with his jokes rather than run a perveted mad-lib.

Titus is awesome. And because his comedy is half standup and half therapy, he'll come out with a new routine like every six months, and he's known for writing hours of material in a matter of weeks. Contrast that with some of the older legacy comedians who will milk the same schtick for decades.

Gotta chip in for Bill Burr here. Yes Louis is damn funny, but Bill is right now my pound-for-pound pick in the comedy circuit.
You really owe it to yourself to drink one less coffee and just give him $5 for his new special, It's just 2 hours of solid laughter.
