UrukHaiGuyz: MJMaloney187: UrukHaiGuyz: MJMaloney187: UrukHaiGuyz: MJMaloney187: clancifer: As a Texan, I sincerely apologize for sending such an asshole to Washington.  Again.

I like him. And I'm glad my vote negates yours.

Congrats on supporting an economically illiterate racist sh*tbag, I guess. You're a credit to the state.

The kind of racism you're insinuating is a total fabrication. You're deliberately being confrontational in support of a fantasy. That's called being disingenuous.

And yes, I am a credit to the State of Texas, but my heart will forever be with Louisiana, mon amour.

Please don't call me "my love", it's creepy. (did you mean mon ami?) And yes, Cruz is a xenophobic, immigrant-hating racist hypocrite. I'm not being disingenuous in the least. The Tea Party is the bastion of hate-mongering bigots and racists, and he is proudly marching at the head of that parade of derp.

No, I definitely wasn't saying "my love" with you in mind. I stole that from Andrei Codrescu's book "New Orleans, Mon Amour". I should know better than to trust the spelling of a filthy gypsy.

Cruz is none of those things. If he were, then you could hyperlink some supporting documentation. If you can show me evidence of Cruz's xenophobia, then I'll apologize.

He's a gay bashing bigot who thinks "sharia law" is a big problem in the States and made a campaign ad about his successfully lobbying to execute an illegal immigrant in violation of international treaties. I'm amazed anyone takes him at all seriously.

Aw, com'n man, the illegal immigrant he helped put down raped and killed two teen-aged girls in Houston. Don't come to Texas and get all rapey. Senior Medellin could have been from Sweden, the outcome would have been the same. That doesn't make Cruz a bigot. Tim Murphy is a sm*rtass anyway. You shouldn't take HIM seriously. And you sound like a(n) hysterical woman when you say things like "gay bashing" because that's about as rare as shark attacks (unless of course you live under Sharia Law).

So to sum up: you hate a guy who 1) sends rapists to hell and 2) protects gays from having their heads cut off by Islamic fundamentalists.

In fact, a big ol Mosque just popped up behind Bush International Airport. Ain't nobody in Texas bashing gay Muslims, Hoss.

If he's talking about the Jesse Helms who came around at the end of his life and realized how unnecessarily shiatty he'd been to people along the way, then sure.

i.huffpost.com

About the only other good thing I can say about Helms is that thanks to being a rabid anti-Communist he was one of the few in Washington who was right about what Robert Mugabe was going to do to Rhodesia.

MisterTweak: Dr Dreidel: DamnYankees: What's interest about this is, as TFA says, Trent Lott's career basically ended for saying something similar. This Cruz quote is barely a blip and it won't cost him anything. The GOP seems to be getting MORE racist over time.

IIRC, Cruz was quoting...someone. Sure, he agreed with the cite, but it's not like Cruz came up with that on his own. And he did explain why he wanted 100 Jesse Helmseseses in the Senate - to stop the creep of socialism.

I'd be totally okay with that idea, as long as we stopped socialism for Joe Six-pack and Mitt Romney at the same time, and made every suburban commuter who writes off mortgage interest put a bumper sticker with "WELFARE RECIPIENT" on their car - after waiting in line five hours to pee into a jar for a surly worker who will process their drug specimen while holding three cellphone conversations at the same time.

If socialism is bad, it's bad. Let's rip it out everywhere it exists.

See, it WOULD be better, because then they'd all be dead and we could start over.

So yeah, your full of crap, and intellectually dishonest people like you are why I no longer miss Texas.

I love the rich irony that Senator Cruz wants more of a guy who would not have tolerated his presence - in the country, let alone in the Senate.

Like when Sarah Palin goes on about returning to the values of our founding fathers.... you know they guys who didn't think women should be allowed to vote?

The theory I heard earlier was that if the Senate does anything to punish him over this, he can call the whole lot of them RINOs, and the Republican base will believe him.  It's a really sick thing.

The difference being that Strom Thurman actually changed his mind on the whole being a racist thing by the time Trent Lott said it would have been a better place with Strom as president.

Pharque-it: Didn't Helms have a big dick?

Yeah, and he was into 100 man circle jerks. This whole flap is actually just an elaborate inside joke, Cruz will explain it all later.

Thanks for reminding me, Fark - I haven't stopped by Oakwood Cemetery this year to take a steaming shiat on Jesse's grave.

I know this thread's pretty dead, but I just wanted to pop in and say that to be fair, I couldn't find any direct quotes of Cruz being an outright racist. When I say "gay bashing" I don't mean he's actually beating up homosexuals. He does pander to the bigots that flood Texas with derp by saying things like:
"If you look at other nations that have gone down the road towards gay marriage, that's the next step of where it gets enforced. It gets enforced against Christian pastors who decline to perform gay marriages, who speak out and preach biblical truths on marriage and that has been defined elsewhere as hate speech - as inconsistent with the enlightened view of government."

This whole thread is about his idolization of an unabashedly racist Senator, someone Cruz is proud to have given his first political donation to.

Cruz is expressing a legitimate concern regarding the unintended consequences of defining gay marriage as a civil right. His concerns are not hateful, they're unpopular. Cruz is one of the good guys, you betta bee-lee-dat.

As a rule, the open expression of sexuality is not dignified. Cruz is speaking conservatively when he says "marching in a gay pride parade is a statement." That's his opinion and he's certainly entitled to it, by law, which he consistently defers to.
