How does he even have a drivers license?

To be honest, that may or may not be his fault. I have some friends who live in Cali, and the tickets (especially with cameras) don't always make it out to the folks being charged. Then you don't show up to court that you had no idea you needed to, and ta-da, a warrant for your arrest. It's happened to two of them so far.

How could they possibly expect him to afford a $200 fine.

For fark's sake can Van Moran go one week without breaking the law? Is this too much to ask?

Somehow I don't think his agent's explanation of the original ticket is accurate, otherwise he wouldn't be in the position he's in

Perhaps his legal team should make a sweep of 50 states, plus US territories and likely vacation destinations to collect all outstanding warrants and dispose of them now.

Then he can start with a clean slate and accumulate new tickets, wants and warrants.

So he blew off some traffic tickets and smokes a little. He's not out murdering and raping people, I'll save my outrage for other things.

/why does the NFL test players for illicit drugs? PEDs I get, but why do they care if someone likes to get high or do blow??

Well, considering the Chargers couldn't beat them after being spotted a 24-0 lead, I'll take any advantage we can get.

No, he would. That's how things work out there in southern California. Don't pay a ticket or miss court, bench warrant. It's automatic.

Chalk this one up to our stellar sports media.

Updates are that the fines were paid and the case was closed last year and there never was a bench warrant

Mostly it's for their image, the NFL doesn't want to be seen as a bunch of criminals running around bashing each other. But most are still classified as "performance enhancing" because, on some level, they help you be better. Mickey Mantle used to use amphetamines to get past hangovers, players with too much pain can smoke weed at night to deal with it then use allotted painkillers come game time, some mask drug tests, etc. It's the general, "that's not supposed to be in your body" argument about sports.

lol, as if that's going to stop a county government in California.

It's like the news outlets are trying to find something crucify to the guy with, his six game suspension was the result of a diluted urine sample, which even the NFL said was possible from overhydration. now they are digging up traffic tickets, this is just pathetic.

On the note of a suspended license, he got a ticket in California,  they said he could pay it by mail or whatever, or worse, one of the farking speed cams. He pays it by mail ignores it or whatever. The state of Colorado will NOT notify you if your driver's license has been suspended. The way you find out, is the next time you get pulled over and they just go, sir did you know that your license has been suspended, and you get to stare at him in dumbfounded shock. The best part is when the other state doesn't clear anything or keeps saying you haven't paid them. Then you have to get a lawyer and wait two years to start your license program all over again. This same thing happened to me over a ticket in North Carolina.

Also since I stated earlier about the drug test, USA today article specifically stating that he never failed a drug test:

Jm Barnes: his six game suspension was the result of a diluted urine sample, which even the NFL said was possible from overhydration...Also since I stated earlier about the drug test, USA today article specifically stating that he never failed a drug test:

Which is moot, because you don't have to fail the test to break the rules. Getting caught cheating on the test is a bad thing too. And why would anyone facing a urine sample possibly want to over-hydrate? To dilute the content of banned substances in the urine.

He farked up and he knew what he was doing. Your dude earned this time off.

I read that the Canadian Football League intentionally doesn't test for pot.  It makes recruiting American players easier ... would you want to be on a practice roster in Kansas City or Indianapolis, or starting on the field and smoking up off the field in Montreal or Vancouver?

/starting on the field and smoking up off the field in Regina or Winnipeg is a harder call of course.

Well, in this case it appears to have done exactly that. When contacted by Denver media the California courts said "paid last year. no warrant. no issue. WTF are you talking about"

Brokenseas: would you want to be on a practice roster in Kansas City or Indianapolis, or starting on the field and smoking up off the field in Montreal or Vancouver?

NFL. Every time.

Practice players are usually 1 play away from being on the 53 man squad.
