(Slate)   Wonder how the Internet stayed up on 9/11? Thank this guy, whose algorithms made it much more efficient at massive data. Also, he single-handedly tried to stop the hijackers before Flight 11 hit the North Tower, thus became the very first 9/11 victim   (slate.com) divider line 138

The only thing that stops a bad guy with a box-cutter is...nothing, if there's another one behind you. :-(

2013-09-12 12:07:40 AM

leadmetal: ParagonComplex: Fine, I'll be "that guy". It really is heroic to attempt to thwart the hijacking, but if he was so elite and an actual counterterrorism type of elite then why did he fail? Maybe more importantly, why the hell didn't everyone on board that plane gang rush? It may have been futile like United 98, but at least they would have tried.

Odds are it was government narrative, a myth, a legend, an emotional manipulation and an intentional leak.  I would find it difficult to believe that a man of such training could be killed by a guy with no where near the hand-to-hand skills armed with a box cutter. The writer of the first memo probably realized this and that's why that story has a gun. But the gun was troublesome in other respects so then they had to back track to being stabbed. That jives with the 'someone in business class was stabbed' statement over the airphone.

Then the question is, why weren't he or others fighting back? Unaware until it was too late? Following standard procedure to have the hijackers land and make demands? Waiting for the right time to strike at the hijackers and not expecting them to crash the plane?

We've had a dozen of years of government made up stories of heroic actions now. It's hard to believe anything that institution spews out in that vein now.

Wow, you're trying way too hard.

/I haven't read past your post but I hope the only bites you got for your troll was a rude request that you not be lazy and Google the story.

MrEricSir: It's not like the passengers knew for certain they were all going to die. Maybe if this all happened again it would end differently, but up until that point hijackers were typically trying to flee the country, not kill people or blow up buildings.

Yeah, you're right. Sort of sad that when 'fight or flight' kicked in they presumabely just decided for 'flight'.

Bacontastesgood: leadmetal: The cell phone thing never made any sense.

Most of the calls were airphones, you know, the old swipe the credit card things.  Cell phones indeed work, just not well, and the telecoms hate it when people use them from the air because they'll connect to multiple towers and confuse shiat, or at least in 2001 that was the case.

But yeah, you're probably right, it's a massive conspiracy involving every single person who was called agreeing to lie about someone calling them and saying stuff, who in some cases was the person they loved most in the world and had just died.  That totally is more plausible than some people using existing technology to find out what the fark is going on or say goodbye.

It's funny how you ignored my mention of the airphone call and then you go into greater ridicule.

As to cell phones working, over a populated area they are going to be handing off very fast and I mentioned no sort of conspiracy regarding cell phones.  But that of course is your distraction off the point I made. All I stated was that government types make up shiat, no great conspiracy. Just that political types lie.

That is they lie to the people for political reasons. Why is it that some events suddenly make these lying arseholes who are in politics honest and saintly? They lie to us every farking day but some traumatic event happens and then whatever they say becomes some sort of gospel for the new high holy day,. Then when someone dares not believe this gospel social enforcers like you have to step out of the woodwork to put him back in his place.

Sorry, those in government lie. They lie on small things. They certainly lie on the big ones. There is nothing sacred about the events of 11-sep-2001 that would cause them to stop lying. In fact they have all the reason to lie more. To create stories and myths that help them and most of all cover their collective asses.

pedobearapproved: I haven't read past your post but I hope the only bites you got for your troll was a rude request that you not be lazy and Google the story.

I have. It's obvious bullshiat. The biggest tell is how the "leaked" memo story of being shot was morphed to fit the hearsay testimony that "someone" was stabbed. But hey, how dare I question this holiday of the state religion!

Glory be the government that keeps us safe from the people it angers across the globe, while it trains, funds, and arms them when it finds them useful for something or the other. In Syria the US federal government is currently arming the very same group of people that these hijackers of a dozen years ago were supposedly a part of.

/hopes she goes down swinging

How does it shut them up?  One guy stood up to fight, while he was distracted kicking some hadji ass another one snuck up behind him and slit his throat.  If anything it makes the "Why didn't more fight back" crowd even angrier.

The real answer is.. The passengers on the plane didn't know it was a suicide mission.

I hate it when people think like this.

"The government has lied, therefore governments can only lie!"

Two planes hit two skyscrapers in the most populated place in the United States. Both impacts were seen on video. There is no mystery as to how heavy damage and fire can bring down such a building. As for building 7, a burning skyscraper fell on it and gouged a 20 storey hole in the side - you know, the side that was so engulfed in smoke you could barely see it. There is nothing at all inconsistent with the official story, unless you're a complete buffoon with no reasoning skills. Seriously, I'm not even joking, go and study basic logic. It will change the way you see the world.

No, I'm not just being snarky. I think you would genuinely benefit from studying logic, argumentation, etc. just as much as I did.

In all honesty probably not much.. Remember prior to 911, hijackers were more about hostage taking, bargaining and has more of the 'take me to Cuba' kinda agenda. I would assume none of the passengers on this flight (unlike the other one) knew they were on a one way trip until the very last moment. This guy was probably mouthing off or asking one too many questions and one of hijackers just murdered him since he knew he had nothing to gain anyway.

cryptozoophiliac: Buildings that are severely damaged on one side...tend to fall toward that side.

That wasn't the only damage, that was just the most obvious damage. The roof got cored, and the whole building burned from the inside out before the collapse. Further, it DID; you can't really see it in most videos because the angle of the video itself, as the camera operators didn't want to get video of nothing but dense grey smoke. If you watch the collapse videos, you'll see that the side further from the camera falls first, along with the inside of the building; it all went towards the side with the heaviest damage; the thing to remember is that gravity only goes in one direction. A falling building falls down.

A large building has many floors and many supports. These prevent collapse. When some of them are removed, collapse can occur, but it won't be like we saw on that day,  because of the laws of physics...resistance will slow the rate of collapse, and direct the energy toward the path of least resistance. Here, have some science with your logic:

When's the last time you heard about the modern Dutch doing something heroic? Not to disparage them, just... I haven't heard anything, have you?

I think there are a lot of us who hate that idea, but the problem then becomes how do you stand up to the 'Man' without getting permanent black marks on your record? We haven't had a real leader to represent The People in decades. I had hopes during Occupy, but... their philosophy was 'DON'T ORGANIZE' and frankly I think they hamstrung themselves from the get-go. So much potential, but then ~two months went by and the rabble got bored.

And less than 3% of the mass of the towers actually landed in or around the towers' footprints. The bulk of the mass was ejected outwards.

Nice theory about 7, Except when you compare Building 7 to Building 6 which had way more structural damage done to it and did not collapse in the same manner as a controlled demolition.  Every vertical structural member of Building 7 had to fail or really be severed at nearly the same time to create what happen.

Thanks for clarifying the depth of idiocy we got here.  Measles cases in the US are at a new high after decades of being almost nonexistent, thanks to morons like this.  I did get a chuckle out of his calling me an enforcer, though, and love how he really believes that the victims families would just go along and help lie about all this.  It's a special kind of dumb and insane we've missed.  Even birfirs didn't get this dumb.

COMALite J: Not even bacon, chives, and gorgonzola butter?

Definitely not.  Not into 'gilding the lily'.   Don't you at least sometimes love a nice juicy steak-flavored steak, so tender you don't even need a knife?

Especially in a restaurant if they put bacon on anything I think they're trying to cover for not knowing how to cook well.  Anyway, condolences on the threadjack but a lot of people did comment on the guy, and it was news to me.

Meh. I'm just not into steak all that much. I've only had one in my life that I would call really good that needed no condiments, and a few tolerable. (But gorgonzola butter helps.)
