(Slate)   Wonder how the Internet stayed up on 9/11? Thank this guy, whose algorithms made it much more efficient at massive data. Also, he single-handedly tried to stop the hijackers before Flight 11 hit the North Tower, thus became the very first 9/11 victim   (slate.com) divider line 138

This is why scum like Manning, Assange, Snowden, and their supporters need to be ridiculed as much as possible. Imagine how many more 9/11s will happen if they got their way and we dismantled our defenses against terrorism?

I'm pissed that a former IDF member didn't knock the requisite heads. Would have made for an inspiring story if he'd taken out at least one with his hands.
C'mon! Like, isn't that the average IDF guy's wet dream? On a plane full of terrorists and no holds barred?

I don't get it. Do all the internet's backbone cables run up and down the towers?

If so, that makes UUnet look pretty darn stupid to make one big fail point for the whole internet.

Or is it that the two towers housed the old NSA listening post, and that's why all the world's internet traffic had to go through them?

Terrorists used to do hijackings a little differently, and the passengers and crew typically were left alive. Meanwhile, try telling the crotchbomber people don't fight back.

I suppose I'll get called out as a jackass about this, or told I am diminishing his legacy, but the article added no new information about his death and the 911 Commission Report concluded he was stabbed in his seat immediately as the muscle hijackers made their move.  They speculated it was because he looked like a physical threat, being a larger man. No one reported that he had confronted anyone.
Although he would have seen two hijackers two rows up he almost certainly not know it was a suicide hijacking and immediately decide to attack.  Especially since one of the two directly in front was Atta and on the other flights, the pilot hijacker alone or with a bodyguard sat until the cabin was under control.

you know, terrorism has been around for centuries. i can only hope that at some point in time, the people who would commit these acts would realize that they arent really doing anything that would make people feel anything from their crimes but hatred for those who would commit them. perhaps that is their aim? doesnt really make any sense to me.im not likely to be sympathetic to people who kill innocent people in order to bring light to their issues. havent they figured that out yet? whatever desperation they think they have, killing innocent people will not make me sympathetic to them,it will only cause me to despise them.

It was a plane. They proved this by confiscating all camera footage and only showing what they wanted.

Now that everyone has a camera on them at all times, the NSA must have backdoored all the phones to make sure they can pull off that degree of coverup again.

Fark needs "whack a troll" threads, where everyone tries to troll and the mods try to remove their posts before a set time limit (30 seconds or so). After the 30 second mark, the comments are forever enshrined in the thread. Scorekeeping would simply be a matter of tallying up the successful troll comments, and comparing them to the number of successful troll removals. Winner could be farker or mod.
