If he did this in a Mosque, he could be charged with sacrilege or defiling a sacred place; if he did it in front of an angry lynch mob he could be charged with inciting a riot.

But why bother to charge him with anything? As an old atheist and a fan of poetic justice, I say let's give him the Republican treatment ... By which I mean secret extraordinary rendition to a prison in Syria or Egypt. Just pick him up in the middle of the night and drive him to a waiting CIA hired jet at the airport. No muss. No fuss. No questions from friends, family, the press, or human rights activists. And no answers for those who do have the traitor's temerity to ask.

No trial (Republicans such as Cheney, Bush and Alberto Gonzalez inform me that you don't need due process, or a trial, or habeas corpus), no charges (he's not a civilian or a soldier, but an enemy combattant and a terrorist, so he has no rights to charges, or representation, or a fair trial), and there's an end of it. Official suspicion is proof of guilt. Poetic Justice triumphs once again over bigotry, treason, disturbing the peace, and jihad-mongering.

No Republicans or Conservatives yelped because Bush did it. No Republicans or Conservatives complained about the loss of habeas corpus, the right to a timely and fair trial, etc., when they found out that Bush did it. So no Republicans or Conservatives have any business complaining if Obama does it.

BESIDES IT'S NOT ILLEGAL. SAYS THE FORMER ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

"It's not illegal when the President does it"--President Richard M. Nixon to Robert Frost.

All White Houses agree. The President can never have too much power as long as he is "our" President. Not yours.

Driving around with a grill stuffed with 3,000 kerosene soaked books of any type sounds like a public safety hazard, and planning to burn them in a public park could violate fire codes, environmental ordinances, or restrictions on burning refuse.

I'm sure they'll find something about what he was doing that was illegal.

He made the mistake of trying to do it in Polk county, they don't fark around up there when it comes to arresting people for whatever the hell they feel like.

2013-09-11 07:49:34 PM
From Another Article: Polk deputies took Jones and Sapp into custody. The Lakeland Ledger reports the men are facing traffic-related offenses for driving with kerosene in the grill.

Yeah, how weird that he got arrested for driving with kerosene in an unapproved container. Such a police state we live in.

And right in the middle of this run-up to another war in Syria as well.

Damn glory-whoring piece of sh*t cares only about himself even as his antics gets other people killed. He's like the Fred Phelps of terrorism.

Well, according to TFA, he has been sentenced to death by an Egyptian court in absentia. So he has that going for him.

2013-09-11 08:24:52 PM
FTFA: "Military officials say his actions put American and Western troops in Afghanistan and elsewhere in danger. "

Gee, military troops in a war are in danger? Maybe we should get some soldiers over there to protect them.

I don't understand the logic in soaking the books in kerosene before arriving to the park. Do they become extra flammable or something?

Good think he didn't get into an accident or this could've been a tragic story (in that someone besides the Pastor would've gotten hurt).

If it were American flags or bibles, there would be no problem, I am sure.

You have to be chosen by God. Even Obama, who is the harbinger of the coming apocalypse. It says so in the Bible

Someone should hold a fake raffle with the top prize being tickets to Cairo. Don't say where Cairo is located, he won't care enough to research. Call him and say he won and he leaves in the morning.

That should take care of that problem.

Hmm, not sure which one to go with, here:

1.  Well this explains why Benghazi was bombed again, today.

2.  Didn't he know the only things one is allowed to burn in protest in America are Christian bibles and American flags?

3.  What does this have to do with the fact that George Zimmerman lined up like 12 black guys today and shot them in the back of the head execution-style in order to intimidate his wife?

This dude is a dick. I don't believe the quran is holy any more than I believe the bible is holy. I appreciate freedom of speech and religion. I just don't like it when anyone burns ANY books. He is a useless AW. Maybe we should send him to Egypt (visit the pyramids, disappear into an Egyptian jail).

I don't care if it's Westboro Baptist church, let him burn them.  If a riot ensues, then arrest the rioters.  I'm a Christian and I wouldn't want him arrested for burning the bible or an American flag.  The cops are wrong.

Though I am glad that the journalist (term used loosely) clarified that the sentence is really just ceremonial, since TJ doesn't live in Egypt. Must get paid by the word....

They didn't arrest him for trying to burn books. They arrested him for shoddily transporting nearly 3000 books soaked in kerosene in a grill on a trailer. He's a public hazard.

Seems to me like he's working with/inspired by Fred Phelps. Trolling for Dollars. If it weren't for the flammability stuff and inciting a riot, if indeed that was the case, it seems like burning 3,000 copies of some other holy book would be ok legally.

Uh huh.  I believe that totally.  Any excuse to stop free speech in this country and it seems to be OK as long as it offends a certain group.  So, what is this a misdemeanor?

We have to burn Korans on 9/11 and flags and bibles. When we stop doing offensive stuff the terrorists, whether they are jihadis, Tea partiers, or just some suburban coont who thinks that being offended is the result of a criminal act, have truly won.

Because it's impossible to burn the ideas that a book represents, which is what book-burning symbolizes? Note that I'm not defending the practice, just explaining it.

If you can burn the Flag you can burn the Quran.

All involved need to be arrested for civil rights violations and massive civil suit in 3...2....

2013-09-11 08:39:41 PM
Certainly not felony-worthy on it's own, but why not:
1) Transport books, kerosene, and grill
2) Apply kerosene to books
3) Grill

Seriously, why would you soak a few a few hundred pounds of paper in fuel THEN load it into your truck? There's a wee bit of tension about people loading vehicles with large quantities of combustible materials... ironically, mostly due to knee-jerk morans like this guy.
