FTA: city property ?

the peasants tend to call that "public property". So trespassing is not a valid charge. Public mischief is more appropriate as no damage done, other than some teabaggers got their panties in a knot over it.

I remember standing at the base of one of the towers the year it was built.  The other one wasn't finished yet.  I looked up, and the building climbed into the low morning clouds, and disappeared.  Forget who brought them down, history should only remember who put them there.

To me, this is scarcely different from re-enacting civil war.  Though many see that is celebrating our history, I also see it as celebrating a time when a group took up arms against the United States.  Some, like me, call that terrorism.

Holy shiat for a second I thought it was in NYC and then I was going to say Step 3 involved a beating.

I hate W, and like any sane person know that what that asshat is on about is WHARRGARBL ...and I'd totally be on the side of 'FREE SPEECH' if he were simply protesting. But no, you don't get to hijack a public work of art and memorial purely for your personal bullshiat. Not yours.

Even to protest one often needs a permit in public spaces. Had this person been denied those things, and this was a last ditch avenue for their WHARRGARBL ... I might be on board. But no evidence of that.

I will say they did at least put a lot of efforts into the cartoon planes.

9/11 being an inside job is something whackjobs of all stripes can agree on. It's like listening to Art Bell Coast to Coast and wingnuts from the left and right are both sharing their favorite theories on which group assassinated Kennedy and neither outright disagrees with each other, they just cobble it into a Bilderberger/Rand Corp/Reverse Vampire theory.

Was it XKCD that made the joke that Tower 1 was a planned demolition but Tower 2 was destroyed by planes to appease both sides?

Oh yeas indeed! - I mean, taping cardboard to steel beams is genuine criminal damage to a historic building or landmark and sick farkers who do that should be locked away forever. Think of the children!

It must have been truly awesome!

I'm a little disappointed with the new layout.  I dig the fountain but I was kind of hoping they would rebuild the towers.  Only bigger with AA guns on top.  Every time I pull out a movie like Serpico or just about anything from the 70's thru 90's that has them as backdrop I get irked that it isn't the same but on roids.  70's stuff showed them gritty and serious.  80's showed them like Valhalla.  It was a signature of NY.

Growing up in the North West sticks I'd watch a rented Betamax movie and be like holy crap!  I gotta get out of here and see and do some stuff.  Look what the other monkeys built.

Well, the terrists wanted to destroy your freedoms.

I guess this is just another example of how they succeeded - you no longer have the freedom to publicly protest.

But all of the display represents the legends, and veritable icons that have been created out of the horrible event. It's all pop-culture kitsch anyway, and really... art is supposed to illicit an emotional response, otherwise it'd be no better than some dumb kid's science project for extra credit.

So.. yeah...

Those are I-beams from the Trade Center towers. It's actually a pretty cool memorial. Bands play outside for free in that park every Friday during the noon hour in the reasonable temperature months and restaurants set up food tents. It's a very active park.
