Please quit giving those assholes attention.

"Don't you know that divorce plus remarriage equals adultery?" the woman asked. "Jesus Christ said that."

"Did he?" Gill responded. "You know what else he said? He said a lot of stuff about forgiveness, about grace. You guys don't have any of that."

To which the woman responded, "BLLLLLAAAAAAGGGGGAARRRGGGAAARRRBBBLLLLLL!!!!!"

Vince Gill went out of his way to confront a fringe church group. It's not the kind of fight most country singers seek out. Malcolm Jones explains.

It's farking Westboro Baptist Church. He couldn't have picked an easier target to go after if he tried.

This doesn't deserve a Hero tag, it deserves an Obvious tag.

2013-09-11 02:36:08 PM
Yes, he's a hero for the "controversial" stance of hating the WBC. Next, he'll talk about how challenging it was to come out against the Klan, and how even though he knows it will lose him some fans, he does not support North Korea.

You wanna know what hate looks like? Go talk to the American Family Counsel.

Vince Gill must have an album coming out.

"I just came to see what hate looked like"

I had an ex like that. But the sex was pretty damned hot.

Missing from the article was "Are any of you Phelpses or are you just the c-team?"

Yes, he really said that.

Vince Gill confronted them because they targeted him.

Fark that guy. Confront them when they're standing outside some poor soldier's funeral and then we'll talk about the word "hero."

I have to admit, Fred Phelps was pretty awesome in Poltergeist 2.

He's so edgy.

Seeing as most people lower their heads and accepts all that comes their way these days (and seems we're more and more passive with each day), any sign of resistance is heroic.

Vince is just wasting his time.  Both in the church AND by talking to this delusional freaks.

You can change people's opinions but you can't remove the stupid.

I love from the comments:  " It's a dry hate. "

Next he's going to take a heroic anti-Nazi stance!

2013-09-11 04:26:14 PM
People didn't turn on the Dixie Chicks because they were opposed to George Bush and his policies, they turned on them because they were total coonts about opposing George Bush and his policies. And they tried to exploit their coontishness to sell more units.

Yes, but in the mind of the leftwing nutjob author (and probably subby), all country music musicians and fans are secret members of the Westboro church... so to see one confronting one of their own is noteworthy.

Y'all are hilarious. Someone gets in the faces of WBC protestors and you find reasons to get pissed off. Funny stuff.

Westboro and Vince are both right and both wrong here for opposite reasons.

But he's a country musician! It's cool to hate them even when they do the right thing, and especially when they do stupid things. So all the time.

Holy crap, maybe the HERO tag is overstated, but there's no need to lambaste him. HE didn't post the article to FARK. Blame subby.
And to be fair, they were rallying outside the venue where he was set to play. So he went outside and checked it out.
Did you even read the article?

FTFA: Country stars normally avoid confrontation and/or controversy - Gill peacefully, personally, and PUBLICLY expressed his displeasure at the WBC.

Here: coward!

There's a couple of ways to look at it. You could be a cynic and think he's trying to look like a good guy and sell more records. You could be an optimist and think that this is a good place to be able to publicly take a stand for tolerance. And you might be a realist and say that he did this to stick up for his new wife, which a man should do. Choices two and three are commendable, and if they result in choice one, I'm all for it.

I'm not saying he's a coward, but he's definitely not a hero. He said what 99.999% of Americans have already said or felt: WBC sucks and is evil. That's not controversial at all. That's probably the least controversial thing you can say nowadays, NO ONE will argue with you (well except the WBC ilk, but that's to be expected).

If he said that to those shiatty "family" councils or to Pat Robertson's face, I would commend him. Otherwise it's pretty much the opposite of a big deal.

Who's exposing their hatred of Christianity because Vince Gill is married Amy Grant?  Are you?  Oh, you are sooo cute!  Is um hating Christians?  Is um?  Yes, UM IS.

Well, she's not wrong...Jesus said a lot more about divorce and adultery than he did about teh ghey.

That said, the balance of the article was far more interesting than the lede.

The Bible isn't a historical or moral reference.  Why talk to these people at all?  The issues they have are as false as the answers they give.

So what kind of celebrity do you prefer?  The kind that forms an opinion based on what they see in the gossip rags while hiding in a private jet, or one who uses their own eyes to see what the group stands for/is saying?

When's the last time you traveled umpteen miles to protest WBC?  The fruit may be low hanging, but he could have ignored it entirely.  What matters is that he didn't.

Not just nice, but it was that, it shows that he really understand WBC's bull cookies.

All I can say is that anytime a star hits back for us at the WBC bozos, I'll give him/her the benefit of the doubt.
