"We'll never forget those brave men and women who protected this country by selflessly giving their lives on United Airlines flight 93, or how they paid such a low fare by using Travelocity."

That's not real.  They didn't just do that. No way.

2013-09-11 03:10:23 PM
Hey corporations: if you think tying your brand to a national tragedy is a good idea, it isn't. It never will be. Just stop it.

2013-09-11 03:23:17 PM
Before clicking, I honestly thought the ad was going to show the New York skyline with AT&T's two newest smartphones standing in for the two towers.

2013-09-11 03:31:16 PM
Is this the thread where we hate on corporate culture latching onto tragedies? And we're supposed to be awed, teary-eyed and proud of the genuflecting Clydesdales in the Budweiser thread earlier, right?

2013-09-11 03:31:54 PM
As corporate tributes go, that's really not that bad.  There's no branding, logos, or slogans on the image, no sales pitch, and the only AT&T logo is in the twitter handle on the post.

So, I've been away from Fark for awhile - we're posting Buzzfeed links now? Oh...

2013-09-11 03:59:11 PM
This is hilarious, because I was just wondering this morning when 9/11 would become a shopping holiday.

Will crass commercialism be strong enough to end the saccharine outpouring of Patriotism, which today evinces a national emotional maturity appropriate to a 12-year-old at a Justin Bieber concert?

Yes, and you see green lights on Fark now of stories you saw about 5 hours ago of FB and every other site, unlike the old days when you'd see them on Fark first.

It's inevitable, really. We live in a capitalist society, so everything eventually turns into a shopping holiday.

I wonder how companies keep tweeting stupid things about tragedies or just generally offensive or distasteful things and other companies don't take note and maybe decide that whoever is in charge of their Twitter or Facebook account should probably have some restraint or common sense.
I'm not personally offended but I can definitely see how other people would be but things like this are just stupid and just show a general lack of common sense.

I put myself through school working retail. I always felt weird breaking up fights over sale items on Veteran's Day.

it's not like the majority of American's really care anymore - sure they say they do, then they go out and pick up the battle flag for their given political party - there is very little love left for 1 America (we will never get back to the unity we had on September 12, 2001 which is a shame because after the worst day in our recent history, we had one of our best ever as a country and we have been on a spiral downward since
