See how many times you can attempt to repeal Obamacare in one year, and then attempt to beat that number.

they are going to try to hit 50 by the end of the month.  there's plenty of time.

Back in the day, in Ultima Online you improved your skills by using them, IE if you wanted to improve your swordsmanship you could stand in front of a straw dummy and wack it with your sword to increase your proficiency. Someone needs to tell the GOP that legislation doesn't work that way- it doesn't get better the more you submit it.

Real Americans know that once the 100th Obamacare Repeal Vote is held the incantation will be complete and the giant Ronald Reagan statue hidden beneath Mount Rushmore (all the other presidents perch upon Ronnie's broadest of broad shoulders) will arise, march to Washington, scoop up Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Alec Baldwin, Boehner and the man who insists on keeping the McRib a limited-time-only sandwich and launch them all into the sun with a mighty heave so powerful it also impregnates Susan Sarandon with twins.

The vote will be a major test of the extent to which the GOP is captive to ultraconservatives. It pits party leaders, who wants to avoid a shutdown, against furious conservative activist groups who see the plan as a surrender and betrayal. The big question is whether conservative backbenchers in the House see leadership's move as providing sufficient political cover for them, or whether the angry reaction from the organized activist community scares them off.

If the proposal passes the House, the Senate will be instructed to vote on the defunding measure; if it defeats it, then the "clean" resolution to keep the government funded at agreed-to levels goes straight to the President's desk. No shutdown.

Conservative groups like FreedomWorks, Club For Growth and Heritage Action vehemently oppose the plan and have vowed to punish lawmakers who vote to bring it up. They want Republicans to force a confrontation over defunding Obamacare at risk of a government shutdown. These well-financed groups wield tremendous influence over the GOP and have repeatedly bested - and embarrassed - the party leadership.

This would be hilarious if it weren't for the fact these psychos have power over how our country is run.

What are they afraid of? Are they afraid Obamacare won't work? But that would prove them right, and they could all go out for ice cream. Hell, there's probably a lobbyist who'll pay for the ice cream; win-win!

Or are they afraid that it will work? And that people will like it? And then the people will wonder why they keep voting for the assholes who tried to kill it?

It's a puzzler.

aaronx: Or are they afraid that it will work? And that people will like it?

Yes and yes.

Polls have repeatedly shown that the (stupid) majority of Americans have a (slightly) negative opinion of "Obamacare" but that they like - by a lot - most of the details when polled point by point.

If they don't kill it with misinformation, it's here to stay because most people are going to like it.

What are they going to do about the debt limit?

The government is going to run put of money AGAIN, even with sequestration.

They are terrified it will work. Especially after deliberately trying to get it named after Obama.

But just in case the depth of that depravity hasn't sunk in they are frightened that millions of americans will live better lives. They are worried that it will cost them politically if the world becomes a better place, if less people die without insurance and the nation is healthier richer and better off. So they are fighting against it.

They are scum.

The Republicans attacking each other for not being "Real 'Merican" enough would be amusing if it wasn't for them using the US credit rating as a hostage.

If these people actually were "fiscal conservatives" they would do nothing to jeopardize the US credit rating which would cause interest rates to increase and the deficit to increase for decades.

I assume the shutdown happens if the House is successfully held hostage by the nutty far-right who won't do anything without iron-clad promises Obamacare is repealed as Obama's last act before he's fired... out of a cannon... into the sun.

The way I understand it, the plan is to send the Senate two separate bills. One is the CR providing funding for everything. The other would strip funding from the CR for ObamaCare. If the Senate does not approve the second bill, the first remains unamended. If the Senate does approve the second bill, the first gets amended. There's no real way to shut down the government in this situation unless the CR doesn't get approved in total. That seems pretty unlikely to me, but crazier things have happened.
