Evangelical republicans scare me sometimes. They seem more interested in death than life.

why not discuss whether or not it portends ragnarok or some other mythological end-times? why is an abrahamic version more 'true' than a norse version?

Intesting. If you don't mind, I'm gonna run with that later on my Facebook page.

"Long before mankind existed, the Old Ones trod upon the Earth. They worshiped the Elder Gods and served them as slaves, but in time, the Old Ones gained the knowledge of dark magic and dared to use their sinister powers against their masters. The wrath of the Elder Gods was merciless and terrible, and those who rebelled against them were banished to distant dimensions and imprisoned deep within the darkest recesses of the Earth. In deathless sleep, the Old Ones dream and lie in wait for the time when they shall rise again, for when the stars come right, they shall awaken from their aeon-old slumber. Then shall they return to hold dominion over our world once more, bringing woe and destruction unto mankind."

None at all. This is what their viewers want to see so they are giving them it. Just like MSNBC gives it's viewers what they want to see and CNN gives it's viewer more Wolf Blitzer.

Predicted?

Nono, described. Syria was where lots of Israel/Judaea's enemies lived, and there was some...friction discussed in the text.

i'm pretty sure all the ends of the worlds in the bibles already happened.  they were probably just hyperbolic assessments of whatever was currently going wrong at the time.  people wrote in very different styles back in the day.

They are expecting "paradise" to come after they all get magically disappeared and put into heaven and the rest of us get to fight a bloody, and painful war for their satisfaction. Some of those Republican presidential candidates I wouldn't doubt would want to push 'the Red Button' the first minute after they're sworn into office, thinking "Once the nukes start flying, I will be Raptured up to heaven before Armageddon hits and everyone else will suffer god's wrath!"

Because God is real, and the Aesir are clearly just made up stories from an unenlightened culture. How is that not obvious?

Probably because the Abrahamic version is more pertinent to Americans than the Norse version. I'm sure, had the audience been over overwhelmingly those who worship the Norse Gods, than it would have.

Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: Violence in the Middle East predicted in the Bible, you say? Did it mention anything about there being sand involved somehow?

There's that and then the notion of people fleeing before Damascus is reduced to rubble. Any conflict in and around Syria since the prophecies were written probably involved people fleeing the f*cking area. I don't begrudge people their religious beliefs but the people who pretend to see The End Times around the corner strike me as really off base.

You Republicans farked up. You dragged your feet on this whole thing just to spite Obama, and now God's going to put off the End Times again. You could have been all Raptured away by now, hangin' with Jesus and the Disciples, watching the gays burn in hell, but no. Instead. you're in a Walmart parking lot watching some guy kiss his boyfriend in the cab of a pickup truck.
You guys really need to start thinking things through.

The thing is, the guys writing the bible expected Jesus to return in their lifetimes.  It's all about how he's coming back any day now.  That was many centuries ago.  Those guys can't be trusted to predict shiat.

Yes, with all those mentions in the bible of the USA being God's chosen land, and Washington DC being the place where the Messiah was born to a virgin welfare recepient in a dingy motel.

I used to believe in all that nonesense. Then I threw away all the garbage teachings and tried to understand it as if I had never read it. I realized the prophecies are not at all about future-telling but, at least Revelation, is about spiritual enlightenment in the present eerily similar to Zen.

Now I just laugh at people who call themselves Christians without understanding a single bit of it.

/Jesus was a Zen master, fundies.
//You'll never get to heaven/enlightenment by taking someone else's word for it. It's a way of life, not a religion.

No, you misunderstand, you see, there's this Wandering Jew guy who is immortal, so when they said that there were those hearing their words who would see the return of Christ, they really meant him. After all, we all know that being technically correct is the best kind of correct.

I am kind of partial to the Hindu version involving Kali. There's dancing.

Someone should totally release a "music to dance to the end of the world by" mix tape. They would make a killing.

This attack on Syria is not about religion. It's about barry drawing a red line and then having to actually do something about it. If he'd had just kept his wanna be tough guy mouth shut, this wouldn't be an issue.
The soft bigotry of low expectations and fear of the race baiter jackboot are keeping hollywood, the exclusive congressional black caucus and various other obamorons in line. These idiots are joining hands with the war mongering GOP to support this attack. Just so a narcissist president doesn't get his feelings hurt.

Except they don't!  They'll spend every penny on any life-sustaining device to avoid death.  They have no concerns about putting down a favorite dog or cat when the animal is suffering and there's little hope ($$$ = no hope), but they gotta keep Grandma on life-support for 12 years BECAUSE JEEBUS!!!  If Jeebus wanted them dead, they'd be dead.  We could hook them up, but then the device would transubstantiate into a pile of Cheetos, because THAT'S GOD'S WILL!!!!

Tell some evangelist he has some Stage 4 cancer, and he'll tell the doc to use every means possible to keep him alive.
