That's actually a typo, subby. You can tell because the previous sentence identified that the house was a "grow house," which the police are presumably seizing. The last sentence was intended to identify the value of the grow house itself as being $200,000, not the seized marijuana. There's actually no real need to print a monetary value for marijuana seizures, in fact ... marijuana being a plant, you can actually use one batch of marijuana to grow another. This makes the value of any amount of marijuana potentially infinite, and is why it is actually one of the most dangerous drugs on the market. See, meth or cocaine, you use it and it's gone. Poof, no more. Marijuana, though...well, it just goes on forever.

$4000/lb is a bit high on the price of a pound ..i don't even pay a quarter of that

Was likely the plant price, unprocessed live plants, not 50 lbs of buds.

Pocky, there's not a house in Millfield, let alone Athens county, that's worth $200,000. Trust me, I used to live in Millfield. I rented a room in a nicely- restored huge farmhouse built in 1814, which was a "safe house" on the underground railroad and on a couple historic registries. And the county auditor valued it at something like $105,000.

/I miss living there. I would still be in Athens county if there were jobs there

I can see it now. One pot grower gets their patented seeds and grows a field, but the wind causes cross pollenation, and next thing you know, the poor pot farmer down the road is getting sued because monsanto came by and found 'their' genes in his crop.

If it came from Athens, it wasn't good weed, it was most likely fantastically excellent weed.

I would call the best variety "Zeus" and then I would smoke it out of a bong shaped like a mountain which would be called "Mount Olympus".

I used to have a pipe that we called Professor Farnsworth.

Don't worry, I'm sure it was probably 5 lb of non-dried buds, and 45 lbs of stems, leaves, roots, and whatever dirt was stuck to the roots when they weighed it.  The drug war is still alive and well.

Those two things are connected, of course (no jobs and low property values).

Does that mean, in one sense, that growers are also counterfeiters?

I can get a QP of quality A-grade for $650 or a QP of slightly lower quality but still good for $500.  $4000 a lb seems like a ripoff.

Yup. I don't smoke it myself, but people do like to rave about the quality of the pot grown in Athens and Meigs counties.

Question: Do they take the confiscated skunk to Colorado and Washington and sell it now?

2013-09-11 01:56:23 PM
$4000 / pound
$250 / ounce
$8.82 / gram

Having never bought pot in my life, I have no idea if these prices are reasonable or realistic. But they do seem to be lower than the typical "cop math" prices that make the Fark main page.

I think as MJ is legalized, enforcement will increase in the states that keep it illegal with more frequent busts to make up for lost funding through seizure.

/less then $200 an OZ for all but the best

When you put it that way it does seem somewhat realistic.  $10 / g would be a reasonable deal.

I don't quite see them selling their 50 pounds gram-by-gram, though.  Kinda like Jesse trying to sell off pounds of meth by the teenth in season one of Breaking Bad.

MythDragon:monsanto

Monsanto has a really good deal going for them.  If it was anyone else spreading their genes all over the place, they'd be the ones having to pay if all the genetic tests came up positive.

2013-09-12 01:31:35 AM
For years the police inflated the value of drug busts to make themselves look good and justify increased funding, but now that it's becoming clear that the tide is turning on weed and public opinion is swinging decisively toward legalizing it, they don't want that kind of publicity anymore. They'll probably start minimizing the value of busts pretty soon.
