I am currently reading Neil's autobiography, 'Waging Heavy Peace' so I'm getting a kick...

/saw Neil play several times in Yorkville when I was in high school.

The car is powered by his own whiny voice, and he was happy that day, throwing things off.

FTA: "a million dollars' worth of technology under the hood...."

Thanks for this one, Subby. Makes my old piece of crap look mighty good, 'cause at least it should get me home.

/ AAA for the win, however. Can't ol' Neil afford same?

I don't understand how that car is supposed to be impressive. I own a 2012 Volt that gets 45-50 electric miles and around 50 MPG when it's in gas mode (because it scavenges power from regenerative braking and so forth). It didn't cost a million dollars, and charges just as fast.

The future of green vehicles isn't in different fuels for your ICE, it's in improving electrical storage tech. (supercapacitors, anyone?)

This very type of vehicle was foreshadowed on Young's greatest work, Trans.

FTFA:
showpiece of an ongoing nationwide tour to promote clean and sustainable energy

Uhm, maybe people would have more faith in it if it was able to SUSTAIN itself to its destination. Jus' sayin', a million bucks is a lot of fail.

Fortunately, we have technology that actually works (cell phones and gasoline engines), or Neil would be eatin' southern man right now.

To be fair, it sounds like it was a minor breakdown after a decent amount of working fine. A regular ICE based vehicle could have a breakdown too.

Oh, come on. Stuff breaks. Even million-dollar stuff breaks. Do you think Bugatti Veyron's never break down? Or F22s?

Interesting. I was looking at the LincVolt website and what they're talking about there is totally different than what that article describes.

There actually is a Donner Party Picnic Area up there.  I have a picture of my young daughters in front of the sign; one is biting the others arm.

It hasn't snowed in the Sierras in several months. The article may be dated September 4th, but this most certainly is old news.

Donner Pass is actually very nice during the summer months.  It's only when the weather turns cold in the late fall and winter that unprepared travelers need to fear for their lives.

I am not sure what Bugatti Veyron's never are, so have no opinion on whether they break down or not.

In other news, thanks for mentioning two more totally overpriced craphicles.

As someone who has driven over Donned summit many times in all types of weather, if they say chains are required, just turn around and go back.

It's a scenic drive in the summer. I have pics of my kids playing in a snow bank in July at the summit.

Considering he 1st moved from T-O to L.A. in a '53 Pontiac hearse he named Mortimer Hearseberg 2 (M.H. 1 was a Buick hearse)you'd think Neil would @ least get love here from Fark gearheads or goths. His tourbus is pretty cool-inspired by a whimsical Lionel locomotive, big wheels keep on turnin' taken him home home to see his kin...
