I take it this is a question for women, because a man would date a hot chick *as* she was having her house foreclosed and her car repossessed.

2013-09-10 07:50:14 AM
Better bad credit than she can't get a clearance.

No. Next question.

Date? Sure. Marry? Ehhhhh

Enjoy your loveless "marriage", coont.

Depends. If they are debt-free then getting that score up is pretty easy. My husband had no credit history because he had never owned a credit card when we met. It only took six months for him to get a decent credit score and now it is really high.

If they had a bunch of debt though and bad credit then absolutely not. It shows poor decision making no matter the circumstances.

Nope.

If I knew a woman had terrible credit I might keep banging her as long as possible but I would not commit. Someone who is bad with money and has a terrible credit score can really fark up your life. Since money is one of the TOP things couples fight about why get in to that whole mess on purpose?

Life's too short to marry someone who will increase your hassle.

2013-09-10 08:15:11 AM
Apparently, not only would I date her, I'd marry her and fix her credit.

2013-09-10 08:15:34 AM
Good credit, bad credit, either way, my wife is going to be pissed.

This.

Bad enough credit can stop you from getting clearance. (or at least contribute). You are considered "vulnerable to bribes and extortion".

America has bad credit. Are you saying you wouldn't date America, subby? Why don't you like America? She likes you.

2013-09-10 08:18:15 AM
If you can tell what their credit rating is on the first few dates, you shouldn't be interested in continuing.

2wolves: Better bad credit than she can't get a clearance.

A sampling of Defense Office of Hearing and Appeals (DOHA) security clearance hearings from 2007 showed that about 50 percent of clearance denials involved "Financial Considerations."  This was two times greater than the next most frequently listed issue for clearance denial.* Guideline F: Financial Considerations is one of 13 criteria listed in the Adjudicative Guidelines For Determining Eligibility For Access To Classified Information.

Excessive indebtedness increases the temptation to commit unethical or illegal acts in order to obtain funds to pay off the debts.  Most Americans who betrayed their country did it for financial gain-about half were motivated by a real or perceived urgent need for money and about half by personal greed.

I understand things happen, but bad credit shows terrible financial judgment. This terrible judgement usually transcends every part of their life. No way in hell I'd marry into and take on that responsibility.

How does that even come up during the course of dating someone....

"So...What's your favorite holiday?"
"Oh, I like this other one because of food"
"My favorite color is blue"
"What is your credit score?"

"I love you baby. You make me happy in ways I didn't think possible. We share an unspoken bond that will never be matched, but your credit score is in the 400's so your ass is going to get dumped for a woman I can barely stand with a 720 rating."

2013-09-10 08:25:55 AM
That all depends.  If her credit is lousy, but her overall habits are relatively sound and personal debt isn't overwhelming, I don't see why not.

Now if she was maxing out credit cards, carrying around 5-6 digits of personal debt (outside of a mortgage or student loan) then... no.

2013-09-10 08:26:15 AM
Marry, no.

It does make being a sugar daddy much easier though.

2013-09-10 08:26:22 AM
Nope. Then again, I once broke up with a girl became she was such a bad driver. Maybe I'm just more pragmatic than others.

A womans bad credit eventually becomes your debt and alimony payment.  Crazy usually can't balance a checkbook.

No problem, I only accept cash.

2013-09-10 08:31:09 AM
the way i figure it is if you truly love someone you help them any way you can and take on their responsibilities
women often say "love me-love my children"
i say "love me-love my bills from my failed vending machine franchise that sold gasoline and fishing worms in the same machine.

Yes please: Nope. Then again, I once broke up with a girl became she was such a bad driver. Maybe I'm just more pragmatic than others.

I once broke up with a girl because I was a bad driver. I don't need some crazy woman screaming at me to keep it under 90 every time I drive to the store.

Soo... you get in debt to get an education that could be used to get a classified job if you hadn't racked up bills getting that education. A modern catch 22.

It actually works both ways.

/Danger is my middle name
//Actually, Travis is my middle name
///And her credit score was never below 600, so it wasn't horrible, just worse than mine
////Now we're both in the low 800s.

Yeah, I hate to say it, but if you ask this question without even acknowledging how "traditional" gender roles play into the answer, you're ignoring a huge part of the dynamic here. While I respect anyone who's good with money, and I wouldn't want to date someone who was completely irresponsible, it's much, much more culturally acceptable for a woman to be broke.

As long as you make the minimum payment the loan helps your credit score.

I've done that...and it wasn't that she was a truly terrible driver, like unsafe, just that she continually pumped the gas and released it to maintain her speed.  It was just, like, no.

I'm not sure if that's a beating or a shooting, but I don't entirely disagree.

/Also, set up the utility\mortgage\debt payment account under a different bank

Martian_Astronomer: it's much, much more culturally acceptable for a woman to be broke

Not in my personal culture it isn't.  Each party has to bring something to the table.  If she's not earning her equal share monetarily, fine.  But, she had better cook like Martha Stewart, look like Kate Beckinsale, be built like Serena Williams, fark like Sasha Grey, and have religious cult-like loyalty.

Unsecured debt like credit cards and lines of credit from retail outlets?  No thanks!
A whole bunch of medical related debt, as in they became sick/injured, did not have insurance and are now stuck with a $14,000 hospital bill?  I would consider it.

2013-09-10 08:45:52 AM
My wife had terrible credit when we got together and it wasn't a big deal. We had to pay a horrible interest rate on the first car we got but by the time it came to get a house we had everything sorted out. Credit scores aren't everything and they are often wrong I've spent the last six months trying to get Bell to remove an "unpaid" balance from my credit but since I'm still with Bell and not behind they just tell me that shouldn't be on my credit. Yeah thanks Raj I know that.
