Let us have our moment. There's a generation of Pirates fans who have never known a winning season.

A lotta room in right-center, if he hits one there, we can dance in the streets. The 2-1. Swung, line drive left field! One run is in! Here comes Bream! Here's the throw to the plate! He is...SAFE! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win!...Braves win! They may have to hospitalize Sid Bream! He's down at the bottom of a huge pile at the plate! They help him to his feet. Frank Cabrera got the game winner! The Atlanta Braves are National League champions again! This crowd is going berserk, listen!

While it's true that Santonio Holmes signed with the Jets because they were going to pay him truckloads of cash, I'm failing to see the facts behind the QB getting underage women drunk and raping them.  Seems to be a lack of evidence to support your statement.  In most circumstances, accusations such as these, supported by hard evidence, would land someone in prison.  Last I checked, nobody's in prison on such a charge that is a member of a Pittsburgh sports team.

What's that you say now?  That's your intrepid, well informed, insider opinion?
Well ... I guess that's settled.  Law enforcement obviously needs your expert and much needed help.  Carry on, then.

I'm sorry. He didn't rape any of those women. He just gave them booze until they were unable to defend themselves against his advances while his cop buddies held back her friends as he forcibly had sex with her. In Western Pa I guess they call that "love".

Once again, America thanks you for your hard hitting journalistic insights, and your fact finding investigations leading to the only obvious conclusion:  That your befuddled view on the events that transpired has shown law enforcement in 3 jurisdictions the error of their ways, and although public record shows that what is official is not what YOU have concluded, then we must beat this dead horse into the ground until somebody, somewhere will recognize your true talents as a lead detective for a case that's over 5 years old, and closed.

In other news, if you'll allow me the honor to tread lightly upon your newly recognized skills, the Pittsburgh Pirates have a winning season, and are in the playoffs for the 1st time in a generation.  Congratulations to the entire Pirates organization ... it's been a long time.

Now please, do educate us with more thoughtful, precedent setting crime fighting conclusions.  We stand at rapt attention for the wisdom to pour from the depths of your soul ...

They're not 100% certain of a playoff spot yet.  99% certain, but if any team could have it snatched away in the last second, it's this one.

Look, it's a dick move to come into a thread about the Pirates and make jokes about the football team's QB. It really has nothing to do with the on field performance of the Pirates and how cool this accomplishment was. This Dodgers fan salutes the Pirates and I've enjoyed watching them this year. I'll root for them unless they run into the Dodgers in the playoffs.

//seriously though, don't defend Roethlisburger unconditionally though. Kobe is one of my favorite basketball players ever and I respect the hell out of his competitive streak but I pretty much stopped being a fan boy after his troubles.
//Roethlisburger jokes in a Pirates thread are still stupid. It would be like making a Kobe joke in a Dodgers thread.

Step 1: Make a joke about "City of Champions" when talking about the Pirates.
Step 2: Have Yinzers get butthurt over it then claim it totes wasn't rape because no one could prove anything.
Step 3: Gain Ignore List space

The Pirates got this far with luck in their rotation. Jeff Locke should be 5-15 with a 4.70 ERA.

Luck could be a factor, but the Pirates have been pretty damn good in preventing runs this year. They've allowed 516 and the only teams better than that in the NL are the Braves and Dodgers.

And Locke has been pretty lucky this year. His WHIP is roughly the same as last year, but his ERA is far better. The Pirates defense or just dumb luck could account for this.

All that said, the Pirates are now guaranteed to have a winning season for the first time in 20 years and they have a legit shot to win the divsion. Luck or no luck, it's a cool thing for the city and Pirates fans in general.

And Roethlisburger's off-field activities have absolutely nothing to with any of this and anyone who brings up a Steeler in a Pirates thread is just being an ass.

Congrats to the Pirates, but I hope you don't make it to the playoffs, just for the lulz.  If you do make it, I hope you win it all, again, for the lulz.

I'll only be impressed if they sweep the Rangers. Fan's must demand this in my unbiased opinion.

Locke has been very lucky in the same way Burnett has been unlucky.  Locke has been the recipient of hard hit ground balls hit right at fielders and has had decent run support.  A.J. has had a ton of slow hit balls find gaps and gets almost zero run support.

As for Roethlisberger, I couldn't care less about the guy.  Despite what the haters would like to believe, there is a very large percentage of Steeler fans who do not like the guy.  And that hate is because of how he has conducted himself around town in the past.  Throw in the other obvious incidents and it's really easy to not like the guy.  So no, we don't condone it.

/surprised no one has mentioned Matt Cooke for good measure

To show solidarity, the Steelers will also struggle to a .500 record.

Congrats to the Buccos on finally coming out of a long funk. You're still my second favorite NL central team. Now, don't pull a Kansas City and lose 100 games next year.

...next stop...the playoffs...

Speaking of Roethlisberger, I will officially assign blame to him should the Pirates either miss the playoffs or don't win the World Series.
