FTA: "A hand in a mosquito cage was not attractive when covered with the chemical"

I'm not sure an eight-fingered hand is all that attractive to begin with.

I wish. The little bastards love me. My blood, to them, is an open bar with the mosquito equivalent of the finest champagne and chocolate.

Not mentioned in the article, the chemical that makes mosquitoes leave you alone also attracts hungry bears.

Am I alone in mis-reading that as horny bears?

I used to have one but I can't see it anywhere.

That's why I take the wife everywhere. The mosquitoes love her and they leave me alone.

Meh. They don´t like me anyway.

I read that as invisible mosquitoes and panicked momentarily.

What, like dryer sheets?  Folk wisdom around here says that pinning a dryer sheet to your clothes will keep them away.  Works well enough for my wife when she's out walking the dog.

people with high blood sugar are very attractive to mosquitoes. In my experience, When standing next to someone with high blood sugar im generally ignored by mosquitoes.

you may want to drop by a doctor. you could be pre-diabetic.

Meh. tell me when the mosquito laser fence is ready for deployment. I rather bring the fight to them than just hide from them.

Also this sounds like the mosquito kite badge which just entered large scale testing in Africa.

Being an amine this stuff probably reeks of rotten fish, but walking around smelling like a fish monger may be better than the EEE.

I'll buy one. And when they come up with one for fire ants, I'll buy that too.

I'm sure the mosquitos will evolve ways to detect around it in a few decades once it becomes widespread.

/always trust evolution to screw over your tech advances.

This explains much of my early life.

Had to cut my sugar intake recently and the mosquitoes don't seem nearly as interested despite having 3X the normal population this summer.

I'll add "placing hands inside a container of mosquitoes" to my list of jobs I will never accept, let alone apply for.

I'm not. I've been that way since childhood - if there is a single mosquito in a 10-mile radius, it will find its way to me....

Are there mosquitos that only bite humans? I would think they aren't that specialized. So they would be very slow to to evolve if a particular scent block only reduces their potential food sources by a small fraction,
