Mental health issues are no joke. Hopefully this guy gets the help he needs.

He had a gerbil stuck where the sun don't shine and could not for the life of him figure how to get it out.

Should not be an issue much longer.

Gale: All right, ya hayseeds, it's a stick-up. Everybody freeze. Everybody down on the ground.
Feisty Hayseed: Well, which is it, young feller? You want I should freeze or get down on the ground? Mean to say, if'n I freeze, I can't rightly drop. And if'n I drop, I'm a-gonna be in motion. You see...
Gale: Shut up!
Feisty Hayseed: Okay then.
Gale: Everybody down on the ground!
Evelle: Y'all can just forget that part about freezin' now.
Gale: Better still to get down there.
Evelle: Yeah, y'all hear that, don't ya?
[Everybody lays down. Gale looks at the now-empty teller windows]
Gale: Shiat! Where'd all the tellers go?
Teller's voices: We're down here, sir.
Evelle: They're on the floor as you commanded, Gale.

But I was told our healthcare system was the best in the world!  Oh, I forgot.  Mental health care isn't real healthcare.  Neither is dental care.

Saddest bank robbery. Hopefully the judge does give him the help he needs and just gives him on probation.

I don't find it that strange. The way our society works, the easiest way to get help is if you act farked up. If you don't, people are just dicks about it. Like it our not, our selfish society promotes this shiat.

Unfortunately this.

Last time I went to County for mental health care, the "interview" was essentially: Have you just gotten out of jail? "No." Are you currently addicted to anything worse than pot? "No." Are you actively suicidal? "No." Sorry, there's nothing we can do for you. "So I need to wait till I'm actually back on drugs, cutting my wrists and/or working the streets to get help? You can't do anything to KEEP me from getting that bad?" No, that's not how the system works anymore.

Nevermind that that would be a lot cheaper and much more cost effective.

O Henry wrote a great short story about this subject decades ago in "The Cop And The Anthem".

This.

I can't even describe the shiathole my family is in right now, and it's nearly all medical. Grandmother has late-stage Alzheimer's and lives with us, mother who takes care of grandmother has clinical depression and may now have skin cancer, and I've got PTSD, sleep disorders, and a skin condition that makes it impossible for me to get a McJob. Stepdad is illiterate and ADHD--which according to the state of California, adults don't have--so good luck finding him a job, and the only other adult in the house is a full-time student who just got laid off on. . get this. . . Labor Day (the irony was not lost on us).

We managed to pay the electricity bill this month, can probably make the next one too, but whether or not we eat in the meantime is a little questionable. We're starting to have arguments over cheese. :/

So much this.

It makes my brain hurt at the stupidity of it sometimes.  Instead of helping people before they crash and burn, they just wait until the people totally loose control before doing anything.  And of course, sometimes it's too late then.  But hey!  What do we know!  I'm sure it's way easier to help someone when they have gone completely mad.  And until they do that, anti-depressants for everyone!

/UK here but our mental health system care is basically the same in this respect.

Hell, the only time I've had to deal with mental health outside of my own shrink I had a hard time convincing them to accept me even though I freely admitted I was suicidal. I had driven myself to the hospital so I must be ok.

Funny thing after a day there a judge came in and committed me for two weeks but it was well convincing them to let me in.

Anyone in Quebec who think they have mental health problems who does not have a family doctor  and don't know what to do: Go to your CLSC.
My brother brought me to one last year after noticing I had issues and it is the best thing that has happened to me.

Desperate times, desperate measures.

/was once placed on suicide watch over a misunderstanding
//to be fair, I wasn't exactly sunshine and rainbows
///pretty sure I need professional help for my anxiety issues, but I'm too timid to share it with anyone
