His O-line sucks.

bronyaur1: His O-line sucks.

Witten was, what? The #2 TE last season?  And Bryant is, if not the best, one of the best, WRs in the game today.  But he kept dumping it to Murray and Austin, Dez barely got to touch the ball.  Murray ended up getting 80-something yards, but was incredibly inconsistent.  And the whole start of that game was ugly on both sides of the field.  They really look like they just need to get their feet under them, though, and might actually start turning in some decent numbers.

The only surprise there is that they're only bruised.

timujin: And Bryant is, if not the best, one of the best, WRs in the game today.  But he kept dumping it to Murray and Austin, Dez barely got to touch the ball.

Probably half the throws to Bryant were incomplete due to CBs dry-humping him before the ball got there. If other teams have to actually play within the rules, he might get the ball a lot.

I keep hearing this. But I have yet to be convinced. Granted, he's better than maybe half the starting 1s and 2s, that nothing to sneeze at. But nowhere near the best.

Hell, I'd take Jordy Nelson over his dumb ass straight-up any day of the week. At least Jordy plays, knows the routes, and *tries* on every play. Oh, and doesn't pout, act out like a spoiled kindergartner, or plow 7 figures into jewelry.

But hey, to each their own.

Back on topic, Romo in midseason form....meaning, getting an ass beatiing every game from a shiat oline and worse playcalling?

Hey, subby.

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you quit submitting Cowboys threads now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

I honestly haven't a clue what this headline is referring to. The giants played like a pile of steaming turds last night & the Cowboys actually did alright. O-line still needs work, but is still streets ahead of last year's performance. Defense looks tons better. I was happy with what I saw & what I heard after the game from Dez Bryant. I'm optimistic. LET'S PARTY

Except Dez Bryant is a good Wide Receiver and gets hurt and has value in an offense, and Ted Ginn is a bad wide receiver and gets hurt.

Treygreen13: Breaking: Tony Romo

Next Sunday in KC

2013-09-09 08:04:05 PM
I hate the Cowboys, but come on...give the guy some credit.  He's a very tough QB and genuinely seems to want to go back in despite huge amounts of pain.  Wasn't in like, 2 years ago he played with cracked ribs against the 49ers?

It could be worse, he could be a drama queen like Rapelisburger when he stubs his toe.  Cut the guy some slack.

Not just cracked ribs. A punctured lung.

He's like some sort of bizarro world QB. In the pocket, unpressured? Just sort of average.

Punctured lung, ball snapped 10 feet over his head, down by 14 points with 2 seconds left? God mode activated.

timujin: And the whole start of that game was ugly on both sides of the field.  They really look like they just need to get their feet under them, though, and might actually start turning in some decent numbers.

This whole week has been one of the ugliest weeks of football that I can remember. Buckets of turnovers, a bunch of safeties (including one so far tonight in the Eagles-Redskins game), and horrendous penalties. A number of teams flat-out looked like they just weren't ready to play.

Know what it is?  It's the fact that the players won new stipulations in their new CBA against 2-a-days and less practices over all to make sure their bodies don't get beat up.  Know what happened?

Not only do they not know their playbook, but when you have a longer offseason and then jump right into what limited practice they now have, their bodies are out of shape and they start tearing ACLs in the preseason.  The irony is thick, and they brought it on themselves.

You're right, the teams are just not ready yet. Somebody make some calls and we'll get the preseason back up to 6 games like it used to be back in the day.

Pokey.Clyde: Back on topic, Romo in midseason form....meaning, getting an ass beatiing every game from a shiat oline and worse playcalling?

I think he knows exactly what he's talking about.

Look, I'm not going to speak for everyone else but I will speak for myself.  I'm a Cowboys fan, not a Tony Romo fan.  If there is a better option than Romo, I'm all ears.

Romo is a very good quarterback.  Not a Canton-worthy great quarterback, but a very good one.  He has shiat the bed a few times and it pisses me off.  But he has also been clutch a few times and has been plagued with bad defenses, bad offensive lines, and inconsistent running games throughout most of his career.  The only consistent aspect of the Cowboys game the last seven years is that they've had one of the better passing games in the NFL.

Tony Romo is not good enough to win a Super Bowl on a merely good team, the way that Manning, Brady, or Rodgers might be able to do.  But he is absolutely good enough to win a Super Bowl if the Cowboys weren't shiatty in other areas of the game.

What some casual football fans don't seem to realize is just how much Romo gets his ass kicked every week.  He is a gritty, tough player trapped in a pretty-boy body.  I think a lot of people hold this against him.  There aren't a lot of quarterbacks in this league as tough as him, but a lot of casual fans don't seem to realize it just because he comes off as a boy-band type pretty-boy quarterback.

I could give two shiats about Romo and would trade him for an elite quarterback in a heartbeat.  I just don't think that's going to happen and I don't think that throwing away one of the only positive aspects of the team is a good way to improve it.  The Cowboys defense sucks on a regular basis, but that doesn't mean I want to get rid of Demarcus Ware or Sean Lee.

Faith Logic Passion: There's a reason Parcells drug his feet on putting Romo out there.

Maybe it was because he was an unproven player from Northern Illinois and Parcells had a relationship with Bledsoe.  I remember how ecstatic Parcells was after Romo's 1st start (win), so I really don't understand the statement.  Their O-Line has been sucking for years and seeing him have the ability to stand in the pocket this past week was a good sign for the Cowboys.

You guys really need to start looking someone to hate on other than Romo, maybe Cutler.

2013-09-10 11:07:53 AM

JohnnyRebel88: Northern Illinois

Eastern Illinois, the same university as Sean Payton.  Romo broke all of Payton's QB records @ Eastern.  Sean had "inside knowledge" of Tony's talents while he was OC'ing the Cowboys.

2013-09-10 11:14:59 AM
ANNNND where did the rest of my comment go?

I agree and wouldn't say Parcells "Dragged his feet" .  Bledsoe was a proven veteran and Romo wasn't even drafted.  When Romo worked out Parcells was 100% in Payton's camp regarding Romo, and so then was Jerrah.  Bledsoe never even got another sniff at the starting position.

You people seem to be under the impression subby was criticizing Romo. I'm 103% sure the criticism was directed at his O-Line.

2013-09-10 12:05:28 PM

Maybe you should drive: I think he knows exactly what he's talking about.

And I think you completely misunderstood me. When I said he didn't know what he was talking about, I meant that the O-line wasn't full of holes and the play calling was much better than in the past few years. Romo wasn't constantly running for his life, and on several occasions, stood in the pocket forever without being touched.

2013-09-10 12:53:38 PM
I know I'm late to this thread but:

When squished by three defenders you are, bruised ribs you will have.

The fact he was only out one down(series) and came back in is a testament to his toughness. It's almost like a random generator in madden where the game could say "Romo - broken arm, out 1 quarter".
