My money is on a Dallas/NY-style incompetence-fest.

How many times will the announcers say 'Redskins' tonight?  Zero?

2013-09-09 01:58:34 PM
Michael Vick and his receivers will turn the ball over three times before the half.  Vick will be knocked unconscious in the third quarter, and Nick Foles will lead the Eagles in a desperate  comeback only to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in the last two minutes of play.

I think the both teams' offenses will be exciting to watch, and the defenses suspect.

I'm thinking torn ACL.  Everything else seems right though.

Why?  Is ESPN planning on doing the "We won't call them Redskin's anymore" thing?  Seems unlikely, as long as the NFL is supporting the name.

Different people have said they'd stop using the name, but they've been unable to really maintain it because everyone is so used to saying it. Around the Horn and PTI said they'd stop, but they still slip and do. So the name will be said tonight, almost certainly.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/wsh/washington-redskins

As long as that is there... seems like this is just a bunch of their individual talking heads thinking they are "taking a stand" on their own talk shows.    Obviously, you can just say "Washington" for nearly everything you say "Redskins" for, although, when you are mentioning the two teams together, you need to make sure to say "Philadelphia and Washington".. not "The Eagles and Washington", which would sound odd.  But, my guess is ESPN won't allow this "revolt" over the Redskins to happen during the MNF broadcasts (or I am guessing it hasn't been "allowed" for Sportscenter).

Don't know. We'll see what happens. When it comes to broadcasters, I can imagine one taking an ethical stand.

DamnYankees: A 4 PM PT game on a weekday is lame.

Lots of east coast working-class people resent a game that only ends at 11:30 or midnight. This is the best of both worlds: a game that starts really early and a game that starts really late. What's not to like?

Pluck a few more feathers for his headdress.... I like that. Clever turn, subster. But you could've worked "charger" and "watt" into something, I bet. Not saying I'd do any better, but you know, just saying.

So uh.... go Texans and any special meteor the heavens can spare for FedEx Field, that'd be great.

If last night's game was any indication, that might be what it takes for the Giants or Cowboys to have a shot at the division this year.

I'm sure your wish to hit FedEx with a stellar object had nothing to do with the fact you're a Cowboys fan, and therefore does not qualify as Cowboy-jacking, but my discussing the relevant NFC East implications of tonight's game is somehow completely Cowboyjacking.

But DO go on.

Interesting Week 1 factoid:  An NFL game has never had the end score of 28-2 before Sunday's KC-Jacksonville game.

Obviously, team's scoring exactly 2 points in a game is somewhat unusual overall:

Other scores with a 2 point team:
2-0 (5 times)
6-2 (2 times)
7-2 (3 times)
9-2
10-2
13-2 (3 times)
14-2 (5 times)
20-2
21-2
23-2 (2 times)
24-2 (3 times, including WC game in 2012)
27-2
31-2 (2 times)
34-2
35-2
37-2
45-2

Since I'm an Eagles-fan whose bitter that his team has so many unlikable douchbags (except McCoy), I'll ask the usual question of the day:

Are we really going to go with the "Don't ask questions, RG3 is just superhuman like all the other NFL guys who return with NO HELP, NOTHING TO SEE HERE" like we did with Ray Lewis last year? The NFL is really pushing the if we don't test hard, we won't end up like baseball thing.

/nothing against RG3, just don't want to hear about him not able to walk at age 35

Honestly, it has to start somewhere and only be a few people who won't do it. You get the respected people to try their best and other people start doing it out of respect for those announcers/commentators. I noticed Grantland articles have been going around it lately (but I don't know 100 percent).

It won't really change until someone finally wins a lawsuit against the NFL or a fan is successful in his/her 100th attempt to have Dan Snyder suffer an accident.

*sigh*  it isn't the use of indian mascots, i have no problem with "chiefs" or "warriors" and the like ("braves").  this is an ethnic slur.  and  kudos to those at ESPN who are taking a stand, one long overdue.  you may remember all the hand-wringing in the sprots world after the Jeremy Lin "chink in the armor" post, or how the sports world turned on Imus for the "nappy headed hos" comment.  this is on that level.

i mean, jeez, it was just a month ago when that Eagles dude got sent home for using a racial slur, and the NFL was only slightly hypocritical with this statement:

The NFL also issued a statement on Cooper: "The NFL stands for diversity and inclusion. Comments like this are wrong, offensive, and unacceptable."

....unless the comment is a team name, i guess.

I really don't see Chip Kelly's coaching translating to the NFL beyond this season (at most), but aside from the Dolphins game, this is the one I've been looking forward to the most.  It could be a lot of fun.

yeah, i think that's probably right.  i don't think chip kelly's offense will work at this level, and we already know NYG will fake injuries to slow them down.  I don't trust Vick to play 16 and i don't think the backups have the skill needed to play that offense.  but you never know.

i think Dallas takes the east, and I'll say the giants or eagles will be 2-3, btu for some reason i don't think WAS will repeat last year's success.  But, as i've said (as have many, this isn't news) the East is wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide open;  any team could go 5-11 and I'd be like, "yup", and any team could go 12-4 and i'd be "yup".  They all look the same almost.  a QB that can't always be depended on, and defensive issues.  what team am I talking about?

exactly.
