Oh, so it's the anniversary of Benghazi now and not about the WTC attack?

Abe Vigoda's Ghost: tylerdurden217: Where were all the anti-war isolationist Republicans when Bush wanted to invade Iraq?

Voting to go into Iraq along with their Democrat counterparts.

There are many Democrat members of Congress that are opposed to any military action in Syria. It's not just the Republicans.

They also have a problem with a black president, obviously.

1.  Dates on which Susan Rice still has any credibility--None.

Princess Ryans Knickers: Ever consider the idea that Obama actually doesn't want to do anything about Syria and he's sabotaging the effort for political reasons?

Honestly, that wouldn't really surprise me. He painted himself into a corner with a poorly thought out statement, and blaming congress is just about his only hope for trying to remain credible while not backing up his words.

Political slapfight aside, does anyone here really want another war in the Mideast?

Most Americans and congresscritters don't want to see it happen, I doubt the president can change that at this point.

soporific: Of course, this could be the first 2012 debate all over again, where he's just blowing it and letting the Republicans run the table.

Obama may have underestimated just how much a chemical attack acts as a motivator for intervention. It's weird that the GOP is suddenly anti-war (no it's not - remember Bosnia in the late 90s and the Sudan shortly after? Remember how Clinton wanted Congress to do more before the USS Cole and the embassy attacks in Yemen/Oman?), though.

Pre-2003, the US is already in Syria handing out explosives like Halloween candy. Now, after Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya, we seem to have learned the wrong lesson - like a kid who touches a hot stove, and decides "STOVE BAD", we may be falsely equating things based on an incomplete reading of the situation.

// that said, I'm having a hard time convincing myself that shipping some Tridents to Syrian lands will help anything but the rubble industry

Condi knew how to talk foreign policy and convince the world of what the White House needs to do is right (and no matter what side of the isle you are on -- you gotta agree with me on this.)
The only person who is better than Condi is Madeline Albright and even more -- Henry Kissenger.

You forget the US had a lot of credibility that Condaleeza Rice was able to burn clean through.  Guess what?  Now Kerry, et al, have none of that credibility to bank on.

That's irrelevant. She was able to convince and get the world going with whatever the White House wanted. That takes a good foreign policy secretary. You can not blame her for setting the policy. That was a job of the resident of the White House and the congress.

No, certainly not irrelevant.  How can you imagine it not to be?  She started from a position of superior credibility and helped strongarm the world into doing our bidding (with plenty of anxiety, to be sure).  Now that hill cannot be climbed and addressed from, you're blaming her antecedents for lacking the same environment?  That's nonsense.

Yeah, remember that 2001 speech on missile defense she gave?

Oh, wait - you don't. Reported to be based on missile defense as "the cornerstone of the new national defense strategy", Condi's speech, which was to be given on 11SEP2001, was made classified after the attacks.

Whether because it would make the administration look like idiots or because Condi had inadvertently clued al Qaeda in to the fact that our focus was elsewhere (leaving them free to plan and conduct the attack in about 3 hours), I leave to the reader.

What does it matter? Republicans get outraged/indignant about anything anyone does except them. They even get outraged/indignant about things Republicans do if it turns out it isn't harming/going to harm other people quite as much as they thought it was going to.

I honestly don't think it has anything to do with chemical weapons with some people. I figure a hardcore 30% anti-Obama group that would forgo water if he were to introduce legislation supporting the drinking of it.

There is not a damned thing he could back that would not get a knee-jerk opposite reaction. That would include an attack on American soil. No evidence would be strong enough, even with a group claiming responsibility and the whole thing on video. It would be called a ploy to do something else. It's farking despicable.

Troll-in-Chief strikes again!

In all seriousness, yes.  This is Obama either rubbing the GOP's face in their bad deeds concerning Ms Rice a year ago, and/or his attempt to get them to say NO and give him a reason to not move forward on military force concerning Syria.
