Wow, I never thought I'd be able to use this again.

I don't want to waste money on another pointless war/bombing/police action/no-fly zone, but bringing this up? WTF.

Nuclear Monk: iheartscotch: soporific: iheartscotch: If I didn't know any better; I'd say that our good buddy, Obama, doesn't want to help the poor Syrians..... Good god, that sneaky bastard! He's doing this in the most foot-draggingest way possible.

/ clever girl

It might be a clever move. Get the usual war-hungry Republicans to oppose it, which not only will cause them harm in 2014 but give him an out.

However, if the Republicans see through this ruse and vote for military action, that might be his plan all along. If the Republicans are on his side, even reluctantly, it gives his actions legitimacy.

Of course, this could be the first 2012 debate all over again, where he's just blowing it and letting the Republicans run the table.

So, it's a trap? Unless the republicans take a third option.

/ if your opponent gives you two targets; strike at a third.

So another vote to defund Obamacare it is!

No, that's too obvious.

We'll take some of the funding from Obama care to bomb the shiat out of Syria; make sure everybody knows we're NOT takinf it all. As the war becomes a more massive boondoggle; we slowly take more and more funding from Obama care, until it's all gone.

But, we will have to make it look like we are reluctant to tap into funds earmarked for Obama care. That way; the dems overreact and insist we take the funding straight from Obama care.

/ if you'll excuse me; I have to go see my tailor. For this ruse to work; I'll need a black top hat, a black shirt, a black jacket, a pair of black slacks and a evil black mustash. Plus, I might have to tie somebody to the railroad tracks.

I hope he lives a thousand years, an old bitter man that we can point at and tell our children that some favors come with too high a price. I will live that long too, just in spite, so that every day I can walk by his sunken, lifeless eyes and look into his crushed soul and laugh. Death is too good for him.

//But, let me tell you how I really feel.

Abe Vigoda's Ghost: There are many Democrat members of Congress that are opposed to any military action in Syria. It's not just the Republicans.

It's just those Democrats didn't have to be told by a constituent named "Limbaugh" that they were against military action in Syria.

That's why I prefer Condi to Susan any day. Or Condy to John. Condi knew how to talk foreign policy and convince the world of what the White House needs to do is right (and no matter what side of the isle you are on -- you gotta agree with me on this.)
The only person who is better than Condi is Madeline Albright and even more -- Henry Kissenger.

Yeah, remember that 2001 speech on missile defense she gave?

Oh, wait - you don't. Reported to be based on missile defense as "the cornerstone of the new national defense strategy", Condi's speech, which was to be given on 11SEP2001, was made classified after the attacks.

Whether because it would make the administration look like idiots or because Condi had inadvertently clued al Qaeda in to the fact that our focus was elsewhere (leaving them free to plan and conduct the attack in about 3 hours), I leave to the reader.

Link does not resolve. No matter. Regardless of the fact that September 11th 2001 changed foreign policy of the United States (and pretty much domestic policy across the board), Condi Rice was an extremely successful UN ambassador, foreign policy adviser and Secretary of State.

You forget the US had a lot of credibility that Condaleeza Rice was able to burn clean through.  Guess what?  Now Kerry, et al, have none of that credibility to bank on.

That's irrelevant. She was able to convince and get the world going with whatever the White House wanted. That takes a good foreign policy secretary. You can not blame her for setting the policy. That was a job of the resident of the White House and the congress.

Try the second one - TPM sources the story/quote to WaPo.

The Bush admin was caught off guard by the reality of what the national security strategy would be, even though Clinton told him al Qaeda (and bin Laden specifically) should be on their radar - but instead, all we heard about that summer were porn bombs, missing "W" keys, and Chandra Levy. So yes, it "changed" the foreign policy, but only because it had been "changed" 9 months prior with the (s)election of the new president.

Condi Rice was only as successful as she was directed to be, which ranged from "very" to "not at all". I remember her selling increasingly unbelievable stories about Iraq-al Qaeda, but once I heard about the missile defense speech, she became Ari Fleischer in a smart dress.

No, certainly not irrelevant.  How can you imagine it not to be?  She started from a position of superior credibility and helped strongarm the world into doing our bidding (with plenty of anxiety, to be sure).  Now that hill cannot be climbed and addressed from, you're blaming her antecedents for lacking the same environment?  That's nonsense.

In all seriousness, yes.  This is Obama either rubbing the GOP's face in their bad deeds concerning Ms Rice a year ago, and/or his attempt to get them to say NO and give him a reason to not move forward on military force concerning Syria.

Or, maybe Obama's just an idiot with no idea how to be Commander in Chief, and has been letting his foreign policy ride on auto-pilot up until now.  He sees the bridge out ahead, but has no clue how to avoid it.

Damn, if Nixon would have just taken that stance about Watergate he could have stayed in office.  Of course that did not end up with dead Americans so it was probably even more irrelevant.

Nothing makes conservatives anti-war like a democrat in the White House...now if there were only a pill that made them stop mistaking the national review for a source of news or clarity...

Republicans don't accuse Dems of wanting to kill brown people because they are afraid of Mexicans though. With Republicans, we know where they stand, they want to kill shiat when in power, and not kill shiat when not in power, attempting to make the opposing party look bad. Dems though, you dirty bastards pretend to be champions of human rights, playing every race and gender card in your deck, until you get power and then you are ready to kill, arrest, or blackmail everything or everyone that...well, everything and everyone
