A bit further down the tunnel - notice the curious break in the tunnel lining half way down the photo and how it widens slightly for a few tunnel rings width. No idea why.

Likely an alcove so people have  a safe point to run to if they have to be in the tunnel when trains were running.

I see this has already been answered but I had to comment just because I like the name.  I just watched the movie last weekend.

Yeah it's from Metro Last light and the graphics in that game range between awesome (lighting, fog, static fire and water)  and crap (the character models, especially the bouncing breasts, and the fire animation for burning webs).   The game itself is fun enough and the world that it occurs in is one of IMO the coolest video game worlds ever.

NYET.  That would be the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, comrade.

Why is the Eastern European quota already reached?

Gotta agree with you and disagree with SH up there. S.T.A.L.K.E.R: SoC really only got  good once the modding community got their hands on it and changed vanilla into something much more spectacular. The other two STALKER games suck. ClearSky is crap, and CoP, while more in line with SoC, doesn't hold up to repeated playings.

Metro: on the other hand, is fan-fraking-tastic all around. Better storytelling, better translations, better atmosphere, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I like both very much, but as far as series go, Metro has STALKER beat.

I don't think you can really make a direct comparison between the two series. Besides both involving an irradiated Russia and having some vague similarities, one is an open world RPG and the other is a mostly linear FPS.

I don't know. We are talking about the world that the game exists in.  I think you can make comparisons but you need to be careful, clearly a linear game can give a more fleshed out world because there is less content to the game.  Evens till I think they are both great worlds but the Metro world is more bleak, it's niot just a nuclear accident and a quarantine zone that the poor or criminal elements of society are picking over it's literally the last remnants of humanity struggling to survive.

In S.T.A.L.K.E.R. you get the sense that the rest of the world is merrily going about it's business while in Metro you know the rest of the world is ruined as well. For all you can tell a single mistake could cause the extinction of the human race.

Dunno about last remnants of humanity.  Maybe the last remnants of farking communist Russians.

We're gonna build a whole new world for ourselves. Look, they clap eyes on us and we're dead, right?
So we gotta make a new life where they'll never find us. You know where?
Underground. You should see it down there - hundreds of miles of drains - sweet and clean now after
the rain, dark, quiet, safe. We can build houses and everything, start again from scratch. And what's so bad about living underground eh? It's not been so great living up here, if you want my opinion.
