People should know better than to ride the "Tooth Chipper"

So... basically just like a Carnival cruise?

Two rides for the price of one? Nice.

Or other kid, as the case may be.

/This is why I don't ride those things anymore

State police said a mechanical failure caused the ride to suddenly stop and those on board collided with each other.

Headline fail. The ride didn't hit another ride, it just stopped suddenly.

I've never understood how people trust the rides at local carnivals.

How did the headline imply that it hit another ride?

The kids' swings hit each other. Like bumper cars. Or one of those Newton's Cradle perpetual motion things, but with kids. Hehehe.

Those swirly spin swingrides always scared me and there has been a lot of accidents on them.

i liked the one they had at opryland when i was a kid.

i do remember there always being at least one obnoxious teenage boy or drunk 20 something who thought it was a good idea to twist around and try to kick everyone else, though.

jerks.

I NEVER ride these rides. My thought on them is they are designed to come apart to travel. I can't trust the tweeker carny isn't going to miss a bolt or not tighten all the screws enough to keep it together during operation.

Ohhhhh, after a quick GIS I get it. TFA made it sound like one unit that goes up and swings around, instead of a bunch of separate swings. Also, I learned that a GIS for Zumur includes tits in one of the first results.

I will ride any damned ride at an amusement park ... except for those damn swings.

If they were all tweekers, tight bolts wouldn't be the problem till it was time to dismantle the things. The problem is the stoners who figure, "Dude, that's tight enough" after a couple twists and a bong hit.

First place I ever smelled pot was at my very first county fair. The livestock pens were right behind the midway.

Seems like a good idea to get the cattle really high right before the showing.

I get eyeball pain just thinking about some of these rides.

Hints for youngsters...if the place has a midway and you can win prizes, do that last.
If you are going to ride the spindle-top, then do that very last, even after midway.

A lot of those swings are just that ... swings ... suspended from chains ... maintained by carnies.

FARK THAT

// have ridden the supreme scream about a dozen times.

// I have done a few tandem skydives

Kids are too squishy for that to work.  There's too much damping, so a lot of the energy gets dissipated and you're lucky if you get two swings out of the array.

What does work is if you support them upside down and put extremely oversized helmets on them, but the arms need to be tied away so they do not come into contact.

It's amazing how under-regulated these rides and traveling carnivals are. Sure, they require insurance, but the risk control can only do so much when meth and AC/DC are both cranked up to 11. After seeing claims come through on these things, I won't go on 'em if I recognize the carnival. Permanent installments (e.g. Six Flags or Cedar Point) are better, but still under-regulated. They just have more skin in the game since they can't just pack up and re-incorporate under a different name.

We just had our local fair over Labour Day.  Waiting in line for the kiddy roller coaster, my little guy all excited, we see (every five or so trips round the track) the carny stop the ride, walk around and knock all the base plates back into place, tightening the bolts on every third or so support post.

Hmmm.  At least it's low to the ground.  No swings, please.
