Fantastic show.....I look forward to Season 2.

As for Cynthia Nixon, I don't know enough about her filmography to determine if she'd be a good fit.

I thought this was the worst idea for a show ever but damn if I didn't get sucked right in. Looking forward to Season Two.

don't think they can keep up the quality for too long
(2-3 seasons?) but damn if it isn't the best shot,  most beautiful show on now.

True, this story can't have a 10-year lifespan, but hey they did it with Smallville. I'm guessing Will Graham gets the amnesia wand at the beginning of Season Two though.

Nobody expected it to be good so people came to the internet talking about how good it is. Now that people are saying how good it is, be prepared for the internet to change their tune and start talking about how bad it is.

I think Will will just begin having his suspicions about Hannibal. Fuller has said that if it keeps going, season 4 will be Red Dragon and season 5 would be Silence of the Lambs. If it went on after that, they'd have a long break in the story until Hannibal where they could do a Fugitive-like cat-and-mouse between Starling and Lecter for a few seasons. After hearing him explain the plans, I could see it going on for a while without having to Smallville it.

Plus, at only 13 episodes per season, they could do 7 seasons and end up with only 91 episodes, or about 3 more than four seasons of Smallville had.

I'd like to see them wrap up the Hannibal story arc. They're obviously not doing anymore movies and Hannibal can't just get away. Or maybe he can but at least resolve the character somehow.

Just don't follow Hannibal the book and make Hannibal and Clarice lovers.

My casting for Clarice

I think they're a little too optimistic talking about a 3rd and 4th season. Hannibal barely got renewed for a second season. They waited until the last minute to announce that it got renewed. Dexter's wrapping up, they should move Hannibal to Showtime and replace Dexter. They'd have a built in serial killer fan audience and Hannibal is already gorier and more farked up than Dexter ever was.

Oh, there's no doubt that it's in a precarious position.  I think it's co-produced with a French company, so that helps offset the cost, but I can't see it's ratings getting much lower next year, so maybe it's a show that NBC thinks they can slot in in May/June and fill an empty spot on the schedule.

In season 2 of Hannibal, the famous cannibal is accused of being the Chesapeake Ripper, and obtains the counsel of Miranda Hobbs to defend him against the allegations.

Too old. She'll be tough and stringy, but if she's a straight-edge vegan you might be able to braise her to perfection.

The story suffers from "Murder, She Wrote Syndrome". By the end of the 2nd season I'll be surprised if Maryland has a population left.

That said, it's an excellent show despite the fact Mads Mikkelsen has absolutely no charisma compared to Anthony Hopkins.

Which is what happens when the man who made Pushing Dasies and Wonderfalls decides to make a horror story.

It's his masterpiece, I'll take as many seasons as they can make.

I find Mads to be much more unnerving than Hopkins was. Maybe it's 2 decades of bad Hannibal impersonations, but I've always found Hopkins' portrayal to be really hammy.

Same; Hopkin's lecter is so over the top it's hard to see how he could ever pass for sane. Mads is playing him as though he's removed from the rest of humanity. He's reserved and low-key, even charming when he needs to be, but it's like an alien wearing a human mask that can't quite pin down all the mannerisms.

Well Hopkins needed to convey that he was crazy fairly quickly as opposed to the TV show where they can take their time and he can be more subtle.

Additionally, Hopkins's version had been in prison for quite a while. Even for a monster, incarceration does things to the mind.

And we never really got Hopkins as Lecter trying to act "normal."  In Silence of the Lambs, like you said, he'd already been in prison for a while and in Hannibal he was a little off his rocker but also not really trying to maintain any real connections to people.  Mads Mikkelsen is portraying Lecter as a man who needs to be pass for "normal."

try to see it as new 20 years ago and it was pretty damn creepy and powerful and malevolent.

eh, it still strikes me as a "He's crazy, guys!" performance. It seems like the characters always been sold as "Crazy, but proper", but all I got from Hopkins was that he was just slightly above the guy telling Clarice he could smell her coont.
