Since it's already been shown that the BMI isn't meaningful, you can also rip apart the article for not considering the relative cheapness of food due to modern agricultural methods, and the move from doing physical labor for a living to using computers.

Just blaming it all on "fast food" is nothing more than already having your PC answer ready and slapping together a poorly written article around it.

Russia Today, Putin's version of Fox News, won't let that sort of thing get in the way of a good "America sucks and is ruining the world" story.

Yeah the move from Physical labor to computers is the main thing. I dare you to do a job that resembles working out for 8 hrs a day and still eat enough to get hoverround fat.

When the fark did RT become a source for news? If there's a stupid person trying to make a "point" on Facebook, you best believe their source is a RT article. American mainstream news sources are biased and play to the lowest common denominator, yes, but what do you have to be smoking to think that Russia is the best place for free, open, and unbiased information?

Too bad that's true.

I'm not sure about what the causes for the "obesity epidemic" are beyond the obvious fact that there's a hell of a lot of cheap food around, a lot of it junk, and that people like to eat. Some blame viruses or gut microbes, some HFCS, some sedentary lifestyles, etc.; my hunch is it's a combination of all these things, and that we'll never know for sure what the main major cause is. As for the remedy, well, sometimes I think it'd help to have a gorgeous dominatrix-trainer run the caloric aspects of my life. (EIP!)

Or maybe we should instead blame the parents in the 3rd world who continue to have children while not being able to provide for them. Seems like a pretty stupid cycle. "I'm poor and starving. Let's have a bunch of kids so there is even LESS food to go around".

/Of course there are also the religious farks who prevent us from helping provide cheap birth control to the 3rd world, which don't help matters

I wonder what the BMI of the typical farker is? Especially those that defend unhealthy fast food!  (bet its well over 30)  Anyone that believes that fast food is not a direct threat to your health, I suggest you watch the documentary "Super Size Me" mentioned in the article , it may just open your eyes, at least, I hope it does.

I for one like the word "Globesity", it gets the point across quite well. Not only are Americans and Mexicans getting much fatter by the day, There is a direct correlation between worldwide obesity rates, and the spread of addictive fast food chains.

Why do people defend that which is not in their best interests?  Answer:  Addiction, in this case, food addiction.

"Everybody, soon or late, sits down to a banquet of consequences." - Robert Louis Stevenson
