Why they continue to cockblock the Foo Fighters is a mystery.

The guy from the Popeye cartoons? Lame.

2013-09-08 11:27:55 AM
Not my favorite act, but he's got some good tunes and will bring the energy.

2013-09-08 11:29:51 AM
Probably try to snort up the lines on the field

2013-09-08 11:31:53 AM
Getting an act more congruous with football would be pointless, because no NFL fans will be turned off from watching the Super Bowl.  So they have to get someone like this.  Capitalism in action.

Goddamn marketing people and their cross-marketing bullsh*t.

And I was hoping for Miley Cyrus...what a shame...

And here I was hoping that their new hitting rules would be the lamest thing they did all year.

2013-09-08 11:34:22 AM
The reason is, subby, because he's young, relevant, and puts on a good show. I'm not a big fan, but that "Locked Out of Heaven" is catchy as hell.

Last ten top-billed half-time performers:

2012 - Beyonce
2011 - Madonna
2010 - Black Eyed Peas
2009 - The Who
2008 - Springstein
2007 - Tom Petty
2006 - Prince
2005 - Rolling Stones
2004 - Paul McCartney
2003 - Janet Jackson

Out of those ten, I think Prince had the best performance, followed by Tom Petty.

The game's in Nueva York, and the NFL couldn't find an NYC / Jersey guy?

Jay-Z. Springsteen. The Beastie Boys. A Ramones tribute band. Bon Jovi. Somebody local.

2013-09-08 11:36:35 AM
Overrated music for an overrated sporting event. Perfect fit.

2013-09-08 11:37:09 AM
He is a real person?  I thought he was a character played by Sasha Baron Cohen.

I should have played it better, but I realized my mistake as soon as I hit submit

I thought for sure it would be Bon Jovi.

His father was Half - Puerto Rican and half Jewish and his mother was Filipino(asian and spanish) you are hitting a huge demographic right there.

Jayz would just hire some other singers while he wandered around saying "uh uh"

One Beastie has passed on and it would not be the same.

The reality is NYC's population is hardly local.

2013-09-08 11:42:09 AM
I'm still shocked this wasn't a Jay-Z event. He's local, has the crossover star-power, has a huge catalog to pull from, could bring a ton of special guests to his performance, and has huge sport ties. Remember him performing "Empire State Of Mind" at Yankee Stadium at the World Series a few years back? That went over extremely well.

2013-09-08 11:45:18 AM
This is too important a decision to be left to the NFL.

I don't really think that's how populations work.

Let's look at this logically. The NFL wants complete and total market domination. They have a huge chunk of the male market. They also get a decent chunk of the older female market. What is missing? Teenage girls. What do Teenage Girls like? Bruno Mars.

//Expect a Clearasil commercial or three just before he goes on stage.

How about "Hooray For Everything". I love those guys.

Appeal to both rap ***and*** hip-hop audiences is not "crossover".

Right, because Glastonbury is a huge rap and hip-hop audience.

Alicia Keys is from Hell's Kitchen. She would have been a solid choice.

Wasn't he Clemenza in Godfather II?

He may not be what I'm into but at least he's current. I'm thankful that the Who put on such a god-awful performance the NFL realized it needed performers under 75.

2013-09-08 11:58:24 AM
So you couldn't uncover reasons such as that he's extremely popular and is a great live performer?

Yeah, they were awful. Prince is easily the best Superb Owl half time performer of the past decade. After that it's a toss up between Springsteen and Petty for "mediocre" followed by an overwhelming vortex of suck.

Were the Bay City Rollers not available?

2013-09-08 12:03:44 PM
LOL, he's from Hawaii, so it'll be great to see how he handles the snowstorm.

2013-09-08 12:03:50 PM
I just change the channel over to watch the puppies and kittens on Animal Planet.

2013-09-08 12:07:04 PM
I see nothing wrong with this. He's a great performer and good songwriter. talented.

2013-09-08 12:07:24 PM
I know I'm old when I've never heard of the act picked to play at the Super Bowl.

2013-09-08 12:09:00 PM
Better than some of the crap they've had in past years. I went to a concert of his. Not bad at all.

2013-09-08 12:09:24 PM
And I see that Fox is broadcasting it this year.  Guess that makes it certain that we'll be getting an American Idol winner doing the anthem.

2013-09-08 12:11:05 PM
When I saw this in the news this morning, I thought about submitting it with the headline: "This year's Superbowl halftime entertainment: The Return of Bruno." But I figured the joke would go over a lot of heads.

2013-09-08 12:13:16 PM
The halftime show I most want to see this year:  The crew trying to setup and the performer trying to sing in the middle of a blizzard.

Would also accept "Weird Al"

/Have my ticket to finally see Weird Al in concert next month!

Hi Bruno, welcome to Fark.

2013-09-08 12:15:10 PM
I was hoping for a Springsteen/Bon Jovi double bill. The Super Bowl is in NJ this year, so why not? Bruno Mars makes no sense. Unless they want 12-18 year old girls to watch the half time show.

2013-09-08 12:15:22 PM
He's talented as fark, and a great performer. One of the best SNL musical guests of all time(did well in some skits, too).

/doesn't own any of his music

you and me both. not a clue. I'll be watching The puppy bowl anyway, like every year since it came out.

They didn't get Mellencamp in Indy, and they already used Springsteen (can't remember if Bon Jovi has, but probably).  They also didn't go country in Dallas, so I guess what I'm getting at is they really don't think about such things anymore for whatever reason.

\possible csb: before he hit it big, my sister & brother in law swear up & down they saw him performing in Hawaii
