Many years ago, I was training near Ottawa and there were some people from Newfoundland (and all over Canada). There was one young woman from some tiny isolated cove; her accent was like a drawl that was very hard to follow! Even the other Newfies had trouble understanding her.

I spent about 6 months near Skipton on projects for work. Only regret is not hunting down some All Creatures Great and Small locations, but that's no loss, really. The Dales are beautiful.

I worked at a call centre in St. John's for a bit and there was one girl everyone else had trouble understanding, out from some little town. Her accent sounded almost Cockney.

Rough translation:

I was sat my arse last evening,
My mother and father were off,
Cos they'd heard tht my old nod Susannah,
We're laid up in bed, with a cough.

She's some brass has my old nod, Susannah,
That's the reason she's looked after so,
If they've nowt (nothing) they're nowt but a bother,
There's a sample my old Uncle George.

(My parents are visiting an elderly sick relative, but only because she's got money, and there might be an inheritance. A poorer relative was not treated so well)

Well, it's Saddleworth, so most of the locals still believe themselves to be in Yorkshire, even if it hasn't been for 40 years

Where I work I was dealing with someone from Huddersfield, and the last person had put her address down as "uddersfield"

I quite like this too

One Sunda morn young Lambton went
A-fishing in the Wear;
An' catched a fish upon he's heuk
He thowt leuk't vary queer
But whatt'n a kind ov fish it was
Young Lambton cudden't tell-
He waddn't fash te carry'd hyem,
So he hoyed it doon a well
