If that were a broader expanse of SOLID chocolate.... oh nevermind.  You can't grasp the difference between sold and liquid, apparently.

No, you apparently can't. It's ice that was melted off and covers a larger area, but is thinner than it was before. Hence it covers a larger expanse, but is actually thinner than the previous, thicker yet less wide cap.

Oh, jesus, get your story straight. Either being thin, aka being healthy, aka Michelle "eat your vegetables and exercise ten times a day for your free government healthcare because socialists aren't allowed to be fat" Obama is a GOOD thing, or it's not. If you're going to hold glaciers to a different set of standards, maybe you should explore your own hypocrisy.

Strangely enough, in 2007, 2012 and now in 2013 they were reporting weather, not climate.
That they have been completely unable to predict the climate 6 years out is no surprise.

Stranger still, this isnt the first time that the arctic has melted in RECENT HISTORY.
The arctic passage was used during WW2.

I'm not sure if carbon credits alone are the answer, but the US has at least started to reduce carbon emissions.  China, however, has surpassed the US in carbon emissions and their output shows no sign of slowing.  It's time for the international community to start putting some major pressure on them to get their act together for the global good.

without nuking China and India, NOTHING the rest of the world does will matter.
They are building more plants than all the cutbacks combined. EVEN if we met the highest cutbacks set in any treaty, China and India would still be greatly increasing the total emissions.

so at best, with insane amounts of hardship and cutbacks, the best that we could do is minutely reduce the rate of increase.

Call me late for dinner, but I am not suffering ANY hardship for that kind of "change"

We can't damage the climate, nor the Earth, but we sure as hell can damage each other. As George Carlin said, the planet is doing fine and can shake us off like a bad case of fleas. But don't worry - it won't be carbon dioxide that does it, it will be a meltdown at Fukushima or some similar thing that happens while the environmentalists were distracted by CO2.

If anyone thinks science can predict climate or even climate trends 50 or 100 years in advance, they're deluded.  Our scientists can't even accurately predict an increase in hurricanes and tropical storms six months in advance.  They can't accurately predict the weather a week in advance.

They don't have any science. Divorce your shiat politics from your science, learn why chemists, geologists and meteorologists think global warming is happening. Research the findings of no less than 100 nations' worth of various universities and research groups and try to figure out why the only two groups who insist this info is wrong are the classically dishonest US right wing and heavy industry, primarily the oil industry, the biggest contributor to the problem. If you have a coherent, objective, scientific argument, please present it. But everyone, and I mean everyone, knows that you don't.

except its getting cooler, not warmer, and all models are incorrect.  It may be only a bump in the road, but the formula to global warming meltdown is seriously flawed.  Its going to have to be corrected before anyone can take that religion seriously.  Also, you need to destroy the emerging nations of the world who don't care about the global warming thing.  Until then, lets stop the profiteering.

You're right - it is DEFINITELY colder today than it was two months ago. Clearly the models we were given indicate a steady, relentless increasing in temperatures day after day. The most recent prediction was that the entire surface of the Earth would look like a Salvador Dali painting by Thanksgiving but clearly that will not come to pass. Thanks for nothing, Science!

--- --- ---
Climate change is not an expensive diversion.  If done properly, businesses can get just as rich supplying clean energy as with fossil fuel.  It does not have to cost jobs, It can actually create jobs.

CO2 is not a distraction, it is clearly changing the climate of the planet.  Every time it snows, though, right-wing news stories breathlessly report that "global warming has ended".  That is pretty much the definition of the word "distraction".

It has been linked elsewhere, but there is actual scientific research regarding how much it snows at the North Pole.   http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/  for example.

2013-09-08 06:38:47 AM
Remember guys. The Antarctic is really what we are worried about, not the Arctic. But anyway, look at the articles pics. Sure, the area of ice has increased. So what. Look at the articles picture of Greenland. Hmmm. Now there's a difference, the volume of ice on Greenland has gone down. So the chocolate bar analogy given in post one has more significance. The "chocolate" has melted off from Greenland. Is that important? I dunno.

Yes, a hundred years and millions, now billions, of people using machines and making power plants that dump CO2 into the atmosphere has had and will have no effect whatsoever. Of course. All that ocean acidification isn't happening either.

No, chemistry doesn't matter, physics is all a lie...

No matter what, humans need to find a way to reduce pollution for our own sake, but I always thought that the planet was way more powerful than us and it made sense that global warming was at least partly natural.
