That's not a claw, it's a foot.  Evolution on display.

I understand the idea of putting those wildly colored calico lobsters on display. But this is just a horrible deformity, most likely as a result of losing the original claw and growing it back wrong. Do they put three legged dogs in special museums?

Id like to see the genomic sequence on this. And a chemical analysis on some tissue, if they can without killing it. Was this thing living by a nuclear plant, or large pesticide discharge ?
Oh, good to see at least one of the boats from lobby wars working, and donating the beastie. Too bad that show is not about any longer- I would love to see the crews reactions when they open the pot.

Well I left home just a week before
And I'd never ever eaten a lobster before
But Lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said "Dear boy, I'm gonna make you a man."
Well I'm not the world's most dangerous mobster
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a lobster
And so is Lola
La-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola
Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola

No, but they'd probably put a six legged dog in one.

IDK, but it seems that that path of evolution is a dead end. A mutation, certainly. I dont see any advantage in having one large claw and 3 small ones, but
OMG ! THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE HANDS !!!

Subby,  you need to buy a better map: Hyannis is on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, it's only "near" Maine if you're in the Southern Hemisphere or on the moon. (Although Maine was originally part of Mass...but that was a long time ago).

Pinchy's new home will be in West Boothbay, Maine

Evolution requires both mutation and selection pressure from the environment. I'm seeing the first but not the second here.

The first person who ate a lobster (or crab) must have been one hungry mutherfarker.

It probably wasn't a mutation in the genes of the lobster but damage to the stem cells that regrow the limb. According to scientific studies many animals that regenerate limbs can grow extra limbs develop them because of an injury, disease or parasite. Scientists have generated limbs (and eyes) in the usual place. For example they have grown eyes on flies legs, or induced multiple limbs to grow on tadpoles.

It looks like this lobster has some other odd growths. I can't quite see what is going on behind the five claws but it doesn't look like normal legs.

JohnnyRebel88: That's not a claw, it's a foot.  Evolution on display.

Unlikely, but structures like fingers and feet may have been generated by similar accidental repetition of existing limbs.
