Brokenseas: Well, I tried to watch a couple of college games.  What boring, one-sided routes.  I deleted both of them (Penn State game and the Oregon one) from my PVR before halftimes.  College football is big business in the USA right?  Why the hell haven't the TV networks forced the schools to play more balanced schedules yet?  I'm only going to record games between ranked opponents from here on in.

Thank God for the Canadian Football League and the BC/Hamilton game.  :)

Most schools' football programs are not profitable, but cutting out the top forty or so schools would gut the fan base.  People aren't just going to start rooting for an SEC team.  You root for the place where you went to school.  Besides, all of the one-sided match-ups have built-in audiences comprising those schools' alumni.

Conference schedules start soon enough, but the "cupcake" portion of the schedule allows football to be played outside of the AQ conferences, and no one forces you to watch those games.  Just turn to the competitive ones.  Then, laugh uproariously when AQ teams lose games early on, especially when they lose to FCS schools.  "Hey, Kansas State, you just paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to pad your record, and you  lost!"

That 103-year-old stats guy for UVA doesn't look a day over 70.

Basically, it's the same reason the first two rounds (sometimes more) of the NCAA tourney exist.

FrancoFile: Tickets and alumni contributions are still more important than TV revenues for the college game.  These lopsided contests at the beginning of the season? The big schools actually pay the patsies several millions dollars to travel there, just so they can fill up the stadium.  Ohio State this season has 7 home games, 5 away.  More than 100,000 at the OSU stadium * $80 per person, plus concessions, plus parking, plus etc.

These games are obviously profitable, too.  Fans of BCS school get to enjoy seeing their team win (usually), and fans of the other school get to watch their team play an extremely difficult preseason game before the conference season starts, plus their school gets money that funds the rest of the football season and probably a few other sports, as well.  Everybody wins.

Tom_Slick: Coach fight? There will be a vacancy on Monday

No way.  Even in corporate america if my team doesn't get frisky every now and then I start to question their passion.  Better to have them be overpassionate than not give a shiat.

Beats watching Alabama-LSU battle to a 6-3 finish in OT. At least the cupcakes usually put up a TD.

Jesus, the Baylor drive chart is a gorefest:

4 plays, 76 yards, :54 - Passing Touchdown
5 plays, 83 yards, :51 - Rushing Touchdown
7 plays, 53 yards, 1:16 - Rushing Touchdown
3 plays, 89 yards, 1:07 - Passing Touchdown
8 plays, 45 yards, 1:43 - Rushing Touchdown
8 plays, 62 yards, 1:52 - Rushing Touchdown
2 plays, 45 yards, :20 - Rushing Touchdown
4 plays, 33 yards, 1:54 - End of Half
5 plays, 75 yards, 1:04 - Rushing Touchdown

Substituting the first drive of the second half for the clock-killing end of half drive: In just under 30 minutes, Baylor had the ball for 9:07, ran 42 plays, gained 452 yards, and scored 56 points.

I do too, but contractually SEC home games only air on CBS, the ESPN networks, and syndicated on the SEC network.

so she fits right in then.  There are two types of sports talking heads, pretty and articulate or brain damaged mongoloids that know their sport but have zero chance of articulating a coherent point.

Like I care how she is as a host.  I just need something to switch to when USC/UGA goes to commercial and I don't want to see 3 swingin' dicks no matter how much they know.

Anyone who says Clowney is a better NFL prospect than Teddy Bridgewater is consuming the SEC purple drank.
