But the thing is, even when they get McGuirk up and running, they're still contracted to play at least 4 a year for three more years AFTER that at Gillette. As far as I'm concerned, their mentality with the whole FBS idea is all backwards. Even with FBS opponents, they'll never build a fanbase with 12 hour trips halfway across the the state.

\and minor aside: people need to check out the hottie on the sidelines at the Rutgers game on CBSSN

The reasoning was that UMass has a lot of alumni in the greater Boston area, many of whom didn't make the trek back to Amherst for games after graduation, so they were hoping that they could help rebuild that fanbase playing in Foxboro.  Plus, they did get a sweetheart deal on using Gillette.  They're not making money playing games there, but they're not losing a ton either.

Of course, at th end of the day, they need to start winning some games to get any kind of consistent fan support.

yes. yes I did.
murray has *always* shiat the bed against big teams, and there's the numbers to prove it.
he gets hit a couple of times, gets scared, and those dumbass turnovers return.  and with kenarious "swinging" gates at left tackle, he's gonna get murderized again against clowney and co.

throw in booboo calling an offense as predictable and stale as any cbs sitcom and there you have it.

Why, what's up with Woody?

I just haven't seen him yet this year and he had let his TFD lapse. The TFD CF season hasn't started for me until he shows up to give Michigan some shiate.

I hope he comes back, I miss his blind obsession for that team from Ohio.

Do or die, Dawgs.

You see that stat during the Clemson game that showed Murray was 1-9 (now 1-10) against top 15 teams in his college career?  That and the 7 true freshmen on defense were the two stats in that game that were slightly troubling.

Yeah, Richt is even worse in big games, the only time I have liked him the past 10 years was when he acted emotionally during the Florida game. Raw emotion he let the team express then he went and apologized later and lost me.

He's like a robot, never shows emotion and never gets mad so I have resigned myself that as long as he's here we will have nice 9-11 win seasons but never win a NC.

For that close of a game this early in the season I'm inclined to agree, still I would like to see both teams run the table just to have them meet up in the last NCG. Just to give people one more thing to biatch about before the BCS goes away.

True and LSU beat top 20 TCU.  But you know the SEC NEVER PLAYS ANYONE GOOD OUT OF CONFERENCE.  Like Tennessee against Oregon next week.

I'm torn on that one, I hate the Vols but live near Portland and Oregon fans are almost as insufferable/insecure as tOSU fans.

I know a lot of girls like that because they get out of their safe zone and end up somewhere they shouldn't be and forget not every person is honorable. I went into a frat house 'party' to get a friend who said she was invited but when she got there it was just a few guys playing cards and pool who wouldn't let he leave. She said she had to pee and snuck a phone into a bathroom to call us, the only reason I got us out of there was because we said her friend was waiting for us up the street and if we didn't come out soon she was going to the cops. I lied, I had walked there from up the street.

Not impressed since it was a horrible defense, a coach who chokes away games regularly, and still without a fumble along with a missed route in the end zone they would have lost. Unimpressed with Clemson but Miami seems to not fark up like they usually do in every game so the verdict is still up in the air and UF had no business being at 12, maybe around 20 or so at best.

Lol fark Urban Meyer, serves him right.

I loved the interview they did with him when the interviewer said if this was college football fight club a lot of coaches would like to take a swing at him. He looked like a little kid who just had his ice cream knocked out of his hand.

He doesn't understand how other coaches hate his douchebaggery and arrogance.

Well, I tried to watch a couple of college games.  What boring, one-sided routes.  I deleted both of them (Penn State game and the Oregon one) from my PVR before halftimes.  College football is big business in the USA right?  Why the hell haven't the TV networks forced the schools to play more balanced schedules yet?  I'm only going to record games between ranked opponents from here on in.

Thank God for the Canadian Football League and the BC/Hamilton game.  :)

Sure it is.  Baylor just scored another TD about one minute into the second half.  Their kicker has 9 XP and they haven't punted once.  But don't you, too, look when there is a semi sitting on a Ford Focus over on the side of the road?

Gotta give Buffalo props for scheduling OSU one week and Baylor the next, though.

Its been his trademark, Richt is a exceptionally nice guy and a good coach but he doesn't get teams up to play in huge games and won't pour it on when ahead. It maddens me when he starts playing soft when they get up by 10-15 in the first half, that and always running a draw play on 3rd and long, I know its coming, the fans knows it coming, the opponent knows its coming, and the mascots knows its coming but they run it anyways.

No shock, give up a TD when playing not to give up a huge play.

No because I'm the one yelling to get the fark out of my way and watching a blowout drives me mad because all I see are the mistakes after coaching little kids. Its also why I had to stop taking it so seriously, just calm the fark down.

Most schools' football programs are not profitable, but cutting out the top forty or so schools would gut the fan base.  People aren't just going to start rooting for an SEC team.  You root for the place where you went to school.  Besides, all of the one-sided match-ups have built-in audiences comprising those schools' alumni.

Conference schedules start soon enough, but the "cupcake" portion of the schedule allows football to be played outside of the AQ conferences, and no one forces you to watch those games.  Just turn to the competitive ones.  Then, laugh uproariously when AQ teams lose games early on, especially when they lose to FCS schools.  "Hey, Kansas State, you just paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to pad your record, and you  lost!"

These games are obviously profitable, too.  Fans of BCS school get to enjoy seeing their team win (usually), and fans of the other school get to watch their team play an extremely difficult preseason game before the conference season starts, plus their school gets money that funds the rest of the football season and probably a few other sports, as well.  Everybody wins.

4 plays, 76 yards, :54 - Passing Touchdown
5 plays, 83 yards, :51 - Rushing Touchdown
7 plays, 53 yards, 1:16 - Rushing Touchdown
3 plays, 89 yards, 1:07 - Passing Touchdown
8 plays, 45 yards, 1:43 - Rushing Touchdown
8 plays, 62 yards, 1:52 - Rushing Touchdown
2 plays, 45 yards, :20 - Rushing Touchdown
4 plays, 33 yards, 1:54 - End of Half
5 plays, 75 yards, 1:04 - Rushing Touchdown

Substituting the first drive of the second half for the clock-killing end of half drive: In just under 30 minutes, Baylor had the ball for 9:07, ran 42 plays, gained 452 yards, and scored 56 points.

But OSU will get that 100,000 gate regardless of who their opponent is.  And an $8,000,000 gate for a patsy game would be dwarfed by ABC paying for the ratings for another big, hyped game against a competent opponent.

It's kind of a prisoner's dilemma.  If every school played 6 home / 6 away games in a balanced schedule, I bet the TV ratings and revenue would skyrocket.  But the only way to get there would be to force the schools to do this, because they make too much money right now playing the cupcakes.

Well UF was waaaaaay too high, UGA should have been 10 at the highest and they have to deal with Richt/Bobo farking up games.

The best way I have seen Richt describe is he's predictably unpredictable I took it as meaning he telegraphs his plays and people know when he's going to try running trick plays.

But they did it in Michigan as well according to my father.

/Seriously, the FARK.
//And then they locked it away behind the paywall.  Sigh.
///If ESPN did a "Buy streaming access directly" right now and get access right now thing, I'd honestly do that because it's impossible to get sports from back home.

I was gonna make a joke about the South but NAScAR is on ABC here in Colorado too.

FriarReb98: Even as an Irish fan, I'm of two minds on this rivalry.  I mean, no rivalry should ever be allowed to end, ever.  But on the other hand, if you hate each other so goddamned much you can't even PLAY each other, that's gotta say something right?

They didn't play each other in 2000 or 2001.... or 1995 and 1996... or 1983 and 1984... from 1944-1977...

It's not an "every year or the sun will explode" type rivalry. They will meet again, but the media has to have something to talk about non-stop for days on end.

So Michigan's QB, Gardner will be wearing #98 for the rest of his career out of "honor" for a guy he's likely never heard of. Cool.

2013-09-07 08:14:07 PM
Well FFS this isn't even fun to watch now that they're actually getting stops thanks to our WRs dropping every pass even when it'shiatting them in both hands.

First punt of the year on a Vernon Adams-led drive after two consecutive drops.

And now I'll watch some sh*tty game I'm not interested in so I can comment about a "relevant" game between two teams that will be nowhere near contention for a title.

2013-09-07 08:14:36 PM

eddievercetti: ABC chose NASCAR over what could be the last Wolverine-Irish game this decade? Dumbasses.

The fact that it's going back on hiatus is dumb enough.  Then again, I absolutely hate the whole realignment and championship game BS and wish we could go all the way back to there being a Big Eight and SWC (and obviously, only TEN teams in the Big Ten).

He's heard of him. Harmon's name is all over Michigan's facilities.

Pretty stand up of thing for Devin to do.

I wouldn't catch that ball either.

Eww.

Boom!

Ref in the WVU/OU game looks exhausted already.

Oh look, it's Bob Stoops! Now I remember why I wasn't watching this - don't want to slip up an punch my TV screen for looking like a douche. It's not the screen's fault.

/C'MON AT LEAST SHOW SAD STOOPS FACE AFTER THE FUMBLE

Then I stand corrected. Props to Gardner for respecting history of the program.

I'm just across the border but get all the Michigan stations, can confirm NASCAR is on ABC instead of the Mich-ND game. Farking dumb.

Yeah, the QB of Michigan has almost certainly never hear of the schools 1st Heisman Trophy winner even though there are statues, plaques, photos and all kinds of other things honoring him on campus. Holy hell dude, are you for real?

Michigan fan: Go Blue!

Non fan:  So what are you wearing to the game?

Yellow, of course.

Makes perfect sense.

Trickeration.

At least it's the right shade of maize, as opposed to BC, which hasn't worn yellow in decades.

Go for it, fark a 50 yard FG attempt.

2013-09-07 08:23:13 PM
Oh, only 44, kick that shiat then.

2013-09-07 08:23:17 PM

IAmRight: Good job, Georgia! You've now knocked off as many ranked teams as my EWU Eagles.

LOL Georgia has three top ten teams scheduled out of the first four games.  Did yours do that?

2013-09-07 08:23:37 PM
15 FG in a row is a Michigan record?

They must have had some terrible kickers over the years.

2013-09-07 08:24:01 PM
WVU's decals look too small for their helmets.

"Look at that vision he has! Noticing there's no one within 20 yards of him in all directions! Only a really good QB would have such phenomenal vision!"

2013-09-07 08:24:09 PM
15 straight FGs is a record at a storied program like Michigan?

College kickers aren't usually known for their accuracy, or leg strength.  They just kinda happen in the pros.

I'm currently drinking a "tart of darkness" from the bruery.

Sh*t, son, we don't flex on losing games over here.

/those schools must not be as afraid of you as they are of us
//if you're taking this seriously you're ridiculous - I'm just saying that sh*t to troll the f*ck out of steamingpile for being a b*tch about me talking about the game I'm watching

The offense doesn't wake the fark up, I'll be drinking plenty tonight.

Also, Michigan doesn't seem like the best type of place to be kicking.

/another penalty wipes out another big play for EWU
//guessing y'all took WOU + the points?

ND's record is at least 20... David Ruffer a few years ago, but I didn't dig out their media guide to find out if that's actually the record.

Four Roses bourbon Old Fashioned I'm trying to get the wife to bring them to me, it isn't working.

steamingpile: Doogled: steamingpile: Doogled: The UGA FB and RB have futures in the NFL.

Well yeah but it sucks because that means we may have one more year at most with him then he's gone.

I'm OK with this.

Pfffft aren't you the GT fan though or are the one I always confuse as a GT fan?

Yes, I am the person who becomes an alcoholic every football season.

Oh good, Knight has a slight injury so now we can talk about how heroic he is to overcome a jammed finger on his non-throwing hand.
