Judging by the article, and it's often difficult to understand World Net Daily articles, but it appears that it's not about the Gypsy people, they're just using that term because they weren't sure how else to throw something racist into the article.

A new law allows someone who has lived anywhere in Colorado for 22 days to walk into an election polling location in another district and, with a statement of intent to move to that area, be given a ballot.

Okay ....

The old law also required a voter to live in a district for 30 days prior to an election to avoid "gypsy votes" coming in from other areas of the state.

So this is about 8 days?

Jon Caldera, president of the free-market Independence Institute in Denver, said the new law turns the recall elections into a state-wide free-for-all in which supporters can bus in people from all over the state to cast a ballot.

Cats and Dogs living together? That kind of thing?

Supporters of the law claim these scenarios amount to nothing more than fear mongering because the legislation provides stiff penalties for those who lie about their intent to move. However, Moreno insists there's no way to enforce it.

"They say there is protection because if you are challenged and get caught and are found guilty it is a felony and you could face up to one and a half years in prison, but unless a person admits they lied and had no intention to move there, it would be difficult to prosecute. The problem is once that ballot is cast there is no way to find out how they voted since it is anonymous. We have some grave concerns about this law."

*sigh*

To highlight how the provision allows a person from outside of a district to vote, Caldera, who lives in Denver, announced he will legally vote in the recall election against Morse by declaring he has an "intention" to make his permanent home in Morse's district.

Oh look. Someone is going to PMITA jail for 18 months.

free-market is more of a branding thing for the GOP. If you go to Popeyes they sell you chicken and do not pop you in the eye. If it actually meant what it implies then every policy the GOP free marketeers put out wouldn't be to the benefit of established players.

Having actually skimmed a paragraph or two, it would seem these voters are gypsy voters the way some cabs are gypsy cabs and some moths are gypsy moths. In other words, not even slightly gypsies. Just somewhat mobile in a spontaneous fashion, really.

Nice though the image is of a horse-drawn wagon and swarthy folks in colorful scarves would be to the story, of course...

By and large, people don't care enough about elections to even show up, much less vote twice or otherwise illegally. This is something republicans just can't grasp because it is something they think THEY would do to tamper with an election.

I think they're using it as a catch-all for trailer-park dwellers and people that have to hitch a ride to the polls, they don't mean the Eastern European pseudo-ethnic-group Hitler was talking about.

The US's corresponding pseudo-ethnic group is usually called "white trash", by the way.  None of the sub-poverty nomad types get names or reputations that are terribly complimentary, but other than that common ground they're pretty culturally distinct.

I'd pay money to see video of him trying to work up the courage to actually do it. My guess is that he'd get as far as a polling place in the other district, stand still for a bit while a helpful old woman looked on expectantly, piss himself, then run out the door.

The Asian porn joke is how you know they are a "free market" think tank, and not just republicans. Never mind that they were founded by a theocrat, or that they employ Tom Tancredo. And forget the fact that they bring in speakers like Joe the Plumber and Mary Katherine Ham. They are OK with weed and can talk about porn without getting a case of the vapors. Therefore they are called libertarian according to the media.

As an 18 year resident of the Denver area, I have seen and heard far more of him than I can stand. While he portrays himself as a bootstrappy, libertarian, free-market, Ayn Rand afficianado, he has done nothing but be a conservative talk radio host and worked for a "think tank" since I've known of him. Nice work if you can get it, I suppose.

I think they're saying that under the old law, you needed to have lived in the place where you're going to vote for 30 days, whereas under the new law, as long as you've lived in Colorado for a certain amount of time, you can vote anywhere in Colorado as long as you say you have intent to move there.

Are you guys sure this isn't designed to target college students?

Typically, when Republicans have gotten on these "they haven't sufficiently established their residency!!!" kicks, they've been intent on putting college students in a pickle between their hometown and their college town to block them from voting... because college students have typically been known to open more than one book in their lives... something that doesn't generally bode well for the GOP.

Because it's not true

Note that the debunking  came from the office of the Secretary of State, who has had a somewhat major obsession with falling on his face with bogus discoveries of voter fraud.  If Gessler's office says that you can't wink-n-nod  with "intention", then there us no there, there.

As the linked article shows, Colorado has long allowed emergency voting for people who have recently moved.

The law is flawed for a lot of reasons, but designed to make it simpler to vote legally.  Nothing more.  It is still a felony to knowingly give false information in order to vote.

Largely, the change is that in 2012, you had to register in a new precinct 30 days out.  Now it's 22 days.  The rest of the law is devoted to technologies, deadlines,  and centralized voter centers.

Republicans cheat because it's the only way they have left to win because their ideas are so farking bad.

You are really not very bright, are you?

The 2010 elections, in which Republicans won the House majority and gained more than 700 state legislative seats across the nation, gave the party the upper-hand in the process of redistricting, the once-a-decade redrawing of congressional seats. The advantage helped them design safer partisan districts and maintain their House majority in 2012 -- even as they lost the presidential race by about 5 million votes. Also nationwide, Democratic House candidates combined to win about 1.4 million more votes than Republicans, according to data compiled by.Bloomberg News.

Democratic House candidates appear to have won more of the popular vote than their Republican counterparts on Tuesday, despite what looks as though it will be a 35-seat GOP majority.

According to numbers compiled by the Post's great Dan Keating, Democrats have won roughly 48.8 percent of the House vote, compared to 48.47 percent for Republicans.

Despite losing the popular vote, Republicans are set to have their second-biggest House majority in 60 years and their third-biggest since the Great Depression.
