Yep, mostly when everyone were tripping over themselves to find out who they were after Neon Bible won the Grammy for Best Album

Everyone says, "you have to see Arcade Fire live to appreciate their music!"

I wasn't a big fan, but I went and saw them perform a couple of years ago.

Last time I saw them live, David Bowie jumped up on stage and played their encore with them.

Highlight of my life.

I heard the same thing, and then I saw them at Jazz Fest a couple of years ago.

I was still not impressed. Although there was a lot of jumping around as they cycled back and forth between those two chords they seem to know.

I didn't listen to Arcade Fire's last album "Suburbs" until a few weeks ago -- album has been out for 3 years now? Such a great album from front to back -- the album has a cohesive sound, but each song is pretty different. Hasn't left left my car rotation since I put it in.

I can't wait for the new AF, LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy is producing, and he could very well be the next Brian Eno.

all those bands suck

They're boring.  There, I said it.

2013-09-06 07:46:10 PM
I do!  I was mixing their first real US show at the time.  The next day, they were famous.  Totally my fault.  Sorry.

Them backing up Mick Jagger on  "The Last Time" on SNL was great.

anybody else find that "the Suburbs" is more a sum of its parts as opposed to a nice good cohesive whole?
There's a bunch of individual songs that are great (there's only 2 or 3 I almost never listen to)
but if you listen to the whole album from start to finish, it's too long, too depressing, and it's like a hammer hitting you in the head
"SUBURBS ARE EVIL. >:-( but we miss them  :("

Considering that I was about 15 when their first album came out, and I was living in Canada at the time, no. No I don't.

My power rankings:
Funeral > The Suburbs ---------------------------------------> Neon Bible

2013-09-06 08:51:03 PM
No, I've never heard that. But then again I don't hang out with people who have shiatty taste in music.

/Funeral is one of the best albums of the past 20 years.

Not The Who, more like a Rolling Stones wannabe.

Bowie likes them. Buddy Snape Hair should STFU when his better is singing though.

Whatever keeps the lights on at Merge so the label can continue to release music with universally terrible bassists and no sign of soul because someone has to keep the torch burning until college rock makes a comeback.

2013-09-06 10:19:18 PM
Saw them on their last tour in Indy (with The National).  Was one of the best shows I've ever seen...  when they did Wake Up and everybody in the arena was singing with them it was amazing and gave me goosebumps.

Did you see "Shut Up and Play the Hits"?  Documentary detailing the last LCD show..  was really great.  There was a scene where he goes into the storage area that's holding all the gear a couple of days after and kinda breaks down that was rather touching.

My other half likes them a lot. My only real knowledge of them though is an odd interactive film that made the rounds a while back. One of their songs plays in the back ground. It was an interesting tech demo. Type in any real address you know into the field, doesn't have to be your home.
