Neither voter ID nor any other 'reforms' the GOP has been pushing would have prevented this.

Nothing the Replicans are pushing has ANYTHING to do with preventing voter fraud. Just preventing voting.

Seems like all of the proof comes from Republicans getting caught. Weird, isn't it? It's almost like we should just lock up Republicans starting 2 weeks before election day to combat election fraud.

Wait, how does one mistakenly mail in a ballot and then also vote in person?  I don't care if it's two different states, you still know that you sent the first one in.

And people will use what an upper-middle class white Republican in a college town did to keep poor minorities from voting.

Both sides are bad, so vote Republican... twice.

He was a college student at the time. He was attending Colorado State University and if he voted in two places, t was clearly a mistake, if that's what he did," Bradley said.

A mistake is missing your turn.  A mistake is forgetting your doctor's appointment.  Taking the time to register in two places and then making the effort to both cast an absentee ballot and go to the poll is not a mistake.

On the plus side, it's good to see a young person so engaged in their civic duty that they're willing to break the law to carry it out.

Yeah, I don't think the term "mistake" really covers it. Forgetting to put on the trash on garbage day is a mistake. Voting twice is something else altogether.

I don't see where in this article or the original NH Union Ledger piece where they say how this was discovered, just that it was confirmed.  I wonder how/why it came out 5 years later?

2013-09-06 07:13:54 PM

gilgigamesh: Yes but when Republicans do it it's Freedom Fraud TM.

It was a college-aged kid of a Republican voting in 2008.  The statistics overwhelmingly point to him voting all or mostly (D), or at least for Obama.

That said... who cares?  People that have recently moved or live in a different state than they work have always been something of a grey area in voter law... for instance, I was expected to vote in CA after I'd moved to TX and I was told I was eligible to vote in the state election but not the federal or vice-versa by both states at various times.

It's not entirely clear what the law even is on this, frankly, and it's never been fixed because the majority of the people in the loophole are college students, and frankly they don't vote in any meaningful sense, they have low turnout to begin and they're so susceptible to propaganda that that turnout is usually a split anyhow.

//Summary: on practical grounds, this is a non-issue that we've consciously put low on the priority list because it doesn't really have a big impact on anything.

If Republican's were suggesting more interstate cooperation for data sharing and cross-checking, I could get behind that.

But, even this isn't a serious problem, and might not be worth the expense. I recall an investigative report about a long list of exactly this sort of 'suspicious' voting issues which was widely cited. The list including people being registered in more than one state or being dead at the time of election. The vast majority of dead voters submitted theirs by absentee prior to their deaths (which still count), and the vast majority of people registered in two locations only voted in one. There were some exceptions, which were then explained by errors among polling volunteers for having someone who came in vote under the name above or below theirs. Yada yada yada... it was a rather detailed report, and at the end of the day only 4 remained suspicious.

Neeek: Na. He could have voted absentee weeks early, then forgot and voted in person. He was in college. He was probably drunk.

I was going to vote absentee, but I'm a space cadet and mislaid my ballot. I was told I'd have to produce proof that I had NOT already voted (my vote would not be anonymous) when I went to vote in person...and my ballot wouldn't be 'counted' until it could be ascertained that I wasn't voting twice.

They ain't stupid...they keep a record of who is choosing to vote absentee.

On that note, according to John Fugelsang...people who have difficulty procuring or producing ID for voting in person could vote absentee...just mail in their ballot. Post Office does not require I.D. to accept mail.

Just sayin'...

In fairness for the first bit of the non-mistake, I registered to vote in my parents' home town the day I turned 18 (about a year before I graduated high school) and then re-registered in Fort Collins when I went to CSU a year later. I did not, however, cast two ballots. However, the fact that I was registered to vote in both places meant that I got jury duty notices from both cities for about a year. I still get jury duty notices from my hometown. The last one was for a murder trial. I don't live there anymore, so I was disqualified.

This week, Kansas state Rep. J.R. Claeys (R-Salina) told HuffPost
Bullshiat.  You can't register without a photo ID and you couldn't vote without a voter registration card, even if everyone at the polling place knew you.  God, the stupidity in my state.

*sigh*

Everyone knows it's only voter fraud when minorities or people accepting public assistance do it.

I am pretty sure this kid is above the 47% just because daddy is an elected official. Obviously not fraud.

If this was one of those black welfare queens driving a caddy with a trunk full of food stamp lobster then we would have had an issue.

Non issue. Why does the lame LSM media focus on this when so many minorities are committing voter fraud EVERYDAY OF THE YEAR..

If only the kid grew up in an enviroment that covered basic civics, like public school.

(farker knew what he was doing I don't care who says what)

If only the article contained some information in the first sentence that might indicate how the kid might've voted. . .

"The son of New Hampshire's Senate majority leader was found to have voted in two states while a college student in 2008..."
