It's been around for a while.  They used to call themselves "Posse Comitatus".

Whatever.  Jackass thinks he's making a point and sticking it to the man when he does this.  In reality, the only thing that happens is that the guy in charge of deposits gets to hit on the cute bank teller for five extra minutes while they run the bills through the money counter.

Yeah, but to be fair, he seems like a very dumb person, so it makes sense.

Well, if his house ever catches on fire, the fire department should put out the blaze using glasses of water.

On one side, I understand his point. Property taxes can screw over families and older people. If you don't pay, you lose your home.

On the other side, those taxes pay for some good .

Solution? You can decrease your property tax by community service

Fark modmins can't correct a post, but you can ask for them to be deleted and then fix them yourself.  You can also request that the admins correct a headline, that they can and may do.

Yeah, there was an old Law & Order episode where some militia-type dudes robbed a New York state payroll truck, and did the whole sovereign citizen defense against McCoy.  Treat us as POWs, the gold fringe on the flag, the admiralty court nonsense, etc.

The ringleader was the guy who plays the burn-face dude on American Horror Story.

Or don't buy a house.

Hmmm, I'll bet this jackass went to public school. Who paid for that?
Also, taxes do more than cover schools. Does he drive on the roads? Use street lights? Enjoy the protection of law enforcement and firefighters? Do water, sewer and power all run to his house?

What a farking useless attention whore. He has accomplished exactly nothing but make his flaccid attempt to get his 15 minutes of fame. I seriously hope his house burns down.

2013-09-06 04:41:39 PM
Do you know one of the first things people of child-bearing age look at when considering an area to buy a house? The schools. If their kids would have to go to shiatty schools, and they can afford to do so, they will keep shopping. This means that areas with better schools are more desirable, and therefore more valuable. Even if you don't have kids, or don't send them to the local public school, your property's value (and therefore your net worth) is directly tied to how good your public schools are. If you deprive them of money, they will not be as good, people won't want to live in your area and your property value will go down.

High-end, "Over 55", partially tax-exempt housing in all the nice areas piss me off (they are all over the place in my county). They want the benefit of living in a "nice area", they just don't want to do their part to help it stay that way. No different than this douche bag.

Yes, very. If he were richer, he could just move into parts of the Hamptons where $3M houses have yearly tax rates of 10k or less because "hey, were just here for the summer and not using the schools"

Of course, all the workers that maintain his property pay 20k taxes on 400k houses in the adjacent towns.

It helps when you can buy the town council.

This. US$7143 would take approximately four minutes, 28 seconds to count with one of these:

You can probably teach your kid in 30 minutes at home what he/she gets out of a whole day of "school".

2013-09-06 05:36:28 PM

FlashHarry: what is up with all these sovereign citizen chuckleheads? is this a new thing, or is it a post-obama invention?

Yes, it is completely new.  Before Obama everyone was always happy with their government and there was never any kind of dissent.  It's all because Obama is black and republicans are racist.  Seriously.

Often, 30 minutes of "teaching" is what homeschoolers give their kids.

It is a spin off of the christian identity movement, but not at all racist.

There is a ton of anger in this thread over a small act of civil disobedience... would it make a difference if you knew he was a democrat and the local government to which he was paying the protest money has for a long time been a republican stronghold in that area?

Oops you already said it and more intelligently.

Problem: education is the one thing that improves when we spend less money on it. It's ok to throw money at the military, but not at schools

ok, fair enough. let me rephrase: has there been an uptick in this sort of thing since obama's election? we do know that there's been a massive uptick in threats against the president (something like 400 percent).

i wasn't implying racism; i was merely commenting that it seems like we're hearing about it more.
