(Upworthy)   I don't always go to Vietnam, but when I do, it's to raise awareness of the dangers of unexploded ordnance by blowing up a shiat-ton of old bombs   (upworthy.com) divider line 27

Those bombs have just been waiting for him to come so they could blow up and show him how awesome they were.

My son is heavily involved in the same thing through the HALO Trust.  He has done 6 month - 2 year stints in Mozambique, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Somaliland, and Laos.  There's a lot of those things around.

That was a pretty wimpy explosion. I'm guessing all we're seeing in the video is the blaster charge go off and all it did to the old ordnance they threw in the pit is shake a little of the rust off.

Know what would be better? If we left Reddit garbage over there.

A few months back, when I was really on the job hunt, I interviewed with a government contractor in Alexandria, VA. Their job was to design these large armor plated, mobile metal systems that one could mount onto tractors (or sometimes tanks if they were available) for the purpose of exploding landmines that were leftover from previous wars.

Among the places that I was told that I would actually end up was Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Somalia, with the majority of the time in Angola and Zimbabwe.

They didn't get the contract in time, and I found work elsewhere, but they ended up calling me and were all about trying to get me on a C130 out of Andrews AFB to go to Angola. Life path divergence moment right there. Ooph.

Anyways, they were all noble folks, but man I wish that I could have lined things up otherwise. And good for this guy too. Its noble work and SHEEEEEZUS there are a shiatload of those things still out there and live.

If McCain and Kerry want to go "save innocent lives", this would be an excellent place to go and do it.

Vietnam has some great beaches.  The ones shown in the DMZ were not usable, tho.  I suppose they are now.

Given the number of years they've been doing this, I'd bet you are mistaken.
