Worked after a screen refresh. My bad.

I guess Stewart and Weiner aren't friends anymore.

2013-09-06 02:45:32 PM
But, what will then spark the inevitable Mystikal comeback?

That was incredible. Tears from laughing so hard...

During Weiner's first fall from grace I could have imagined them meeting at a party and Stewart arguing that it was his job to make fun. "Just kidding" wouldn't excuse last night's (well-deserved) savaging.

Oliver was a good fill in, but dear lord last night reminded me why Stewart drives this boat. I don't think I've laughed harder in awhile.

Jon Stewart may be a pundit, in that he has political opinions and has a tv show (thus in the media).  But what makes him so awesome and so head-and-shoulders above everything that seems to pass for journalism these days is that his sense of fairness and integrity outweigh party affiliations and even friendships.

During his interviews, there are times that I wish Jon Stewart would shut up and let the interviewee talk or would learn to ask his questions more concisely. From time to time, I don't agree with his take.  And sometimes, the gags are too forced and not particularly funny.

But I damned sure respect Jon Stewart and I never miss an episode of The Daily Show.

If this had anything to do with Weiner going off on the dude in the deli, you should know that it all started when the dude ripped on Weiner for being married to an "Arab".

Yep.. Oliver did a good job of manning the ship while the Captain took a nap... The first episode of Stewarts return and the Syria thing had me pissing me pants.. He just hammers them out of the ballpark effortlessly.

Well sure. They have to come up with material largely on the fly 4 nights a week.

Some of it is gonna be turds.

Wait, a new Daily Show? I thought they were on hiatus.

2013-09-06 03:38:57 PM
Hopefully this election cycle will be the last we hear of Weiner. I suspect if he gets completely thumped as projected he will accept that he has no credibility left and will go get a private sector job where some IT guy will have hours of fun watching his internet traffic.

I dont think they ever shut down. Jon took a hiatus to do a pet project, and that british guy Oliver filled in, now Jon is back

Sometimes you have to let your friends know they're being assholes or clowns. Sometimes they don't listen and you have to let them suffer the consequences of not listening to you. If Stewart wasn't already mocking the shiat out of Weiner someone else will.

And it still pounds SNL into the pavement quality-wise, which only does something like 20 eps (approximately) per year.  Some mighty fine writing on TDS.

Honest question.  Huma Abedin's parents are of Saudi Arabian descent.  So her ethnicity is Saudi Arabian, correct?  Is it an insult to call her "Arab"?

I understood them to be Saudi nationals of Indian and Pakistani descent- definitely not Arab.

Let's not forget the POS Weiner got into the yelling match with has trying to say that anyone married to an Arab is a traitor to Israel etc. It'd have been extra insulting in my mind if she actually was Arab (a racist being ignorant? that's so pathetic and common but it's still comical to me).

Maybe blurting the ethnicity of someone's spouse or family member is his form of tourettes. "Thank you, and have a nice YOUR MOTHER IS UKRAINIAN day".

Um, Saudi ARABIAN. The Arab culture, as I understand it (and I don't!) started somewhere "west of Mesopotamia," which pretty much means modern-day Saudi Arabia.

But if you mean it's not insulting to call her what she is, you are ignoring the subtext there -- a Jew listing "you married an Arab" among Weiner's problems and reasons he shouldn't run for office, well, I don't know, yeah...it's racist. I mean, I'm a white dude, and I'm not about to start reminding black people they're black if one of them happens to bother me for whatever reason.

No, no I get it.  A Jew calling a Muslim who is really Pakistani/Indian an Arab... There's definitely a racist context there.

I was just going to the "general" is calling someone who is ethnically Saudi Arabian "Arab" offensive?  Or is the preferred term "Saudi"?  Although, what's wrong with "Arab"?

There was a 30 Rock joke about calling someone from Mexico "Mexican" somehow inappropriate.

Saudi is a nationality, Arab is an ethnicity. Also a lot of Arabs live outside of Saudi Arabia, and there are non-Arabs living in Saudi Arabia too (not just foreign contractors etc).

It's not what people say sometimes, it's how they say it.  My boyfriend is a Jew, but if someone said, "Oh that Coco LaFemme's boyfriend is a Jew," as if that was somehow an undesirable thing, it makes it pretty damn insulting, even if it's not factually incorrect.

It's pretty cool that TDS would be in seemingly good hands the day after Jon Stewart retires. That said, I want Stewbeef on the show for many more years.

CTV did what? Aw man. That's just so wrong on so many levels.

I watch TDS/TCR online @ the comedynetwork so I never even noticed.

JO did a great job filling in but I'm real glad JS is back.
