Very much this I fear. They've shiat the bed since the All Star Break.

They're 1 game under .500 (-1) in games since the break, which is a slightly worse pace than the Yankees (+3) and similar to the Rays (+1).

Nowhere near as good as the Red Sox (+9) or as bad as the Jays (-8), however.

There were three games in Arizona where they were leading in the 9th inning that they lost when their closer shiat the bed.
The Orioles were 29-9 in one run games and 16-2 in extra innings in 2012.
They are 15-25 and 6-5 this year.
Meanwhile their batting is much stronger this year.

It's obvious where their problem lies this year, but how can they fix it in these last few weeks?

Let's be honest, even after last night I think the Ravens have a better chance of making the post season than the O's do.

Since 2002, the average finish for the 5th best team in the AL has been 90 wins (low of 87 and high of 93), which is where the last wild card spot is. With 23 games left, the Orioles will need to go 16-7 to reach that.

But they are trailing Tampa Bay and the Yankees in the wild card and get to play each of those teams 4 times before the end of the season. If they can manage to win each of those series, they could only need to get to 88 wins, which would be 6-2 vs TB/NYY and 8-7 for the rest of their games.

2013-09-06 03:21:36 PM
I'll add:

If each team maintains their winning percentage for the rest of the year,

Oakland/Texas: 92-69-1
Tampa Bay: 90-72
Yankees: 87-75
Orioles: 86-76
Indians: 86-76
Royals: 84-78

Ravens: They uhm had uhm......

Ravens were winning at the half and got gassed by the heat and altitude. They didn't play their two top draft prospects. They've got work to do, but their toughest road game is behind them.

O's need a major run, but it's not impossible.

/U.S. Open is on.

Probably can't, which is unfortunate.  Between Ripken, Angelos, 1988 and Jeffrey Farking Meier, I've grown a soft spot for the O's, even if they're in my favorite team's division.  Hope they stay competitive for a while.

It came out to 92.5 for Oakland and I didn't look up to see Texas had 1 fewer loss. Texas should be 93-69

Probably because there's a half-game split right now in the AL West (the Rangers were off yesterday and the A's lost to the FREAKING ASTROS) and that was easier than extrapolating the records of both of the teams?

/Seriously, take 3 of 4 from the Tigers and 2 of 3 from the Rangers... and you lose the first game of a series with the ASTROS??

rickythepenguin: the parking lot is the issue, especially since you're gonna have 65K-70K for the football game when OPACY only holds -- which they won't for reason i said above, 3rd place team hosting last place team -- perhaps 45K, but will draw maybe what, the high 20s? who wants to go watch two shiatty teams fight for nothing?

(sigh*

does anyone listen to me?

last night's attendance: 17,383

It was already scheduled beforehand.  If the NFL wanted the Ravens to host it so bad, they should've moved the game to Wednesday like yesterday.

The issue is that the Orioles and the Commissioner did not have the power to move the game to the afternoon.  Both teams were playing out of town the night before, meaning that the union would have to sign off on any change of schedule.  And changing the game to a double-header would also require union approval.

Maybe if the NFL had been less dickish about it, or maybe if they had been at all accommodating when there was a Vikings/Twins conflict for the AL Central tiebreaker, something could have been worked out, but Goodell decided that he'd try to get MLB to cave without making concessions, and MLB's response was that the NFL had no leverage, and didn't cave.

Hell, should've just had the game in Baltimore anyway and seen how that worked out for the baseball game's attendance.

The NFL didn't want to do that this year because of Jewish New Year.

The Jewish New Year started Sunday night last year.  Do you think they cancelled Sunday Night Football?  Why would a sport that plays on Christmas and Thanksgiving give a shiat about Rosh Hashanah?

This.  Rosh Hashanah has never been an issue for the NFL before.  The closest I can remember was the Jets moving a kickoff from 4pm to 1pm to their fans could get home before sundown after a game.

It's on a Thursday night next year.  We'll see how the NFL feels about it then.
