Sinkholes, potholes, gopher holes are things I avoid, but not out of phobia. Somebody's grant money must have been running out.

I have this.  Like the revulsion part is really strong and I always wondered.

Just posting in this thread before people start posting horrible pictures.

absolutely!

mark me down as someone who literally gets nauseous when looking at pictures like that. nauseous like when you're reading while traveling in a car.

I didn't know it was a thing, but I've experienced it my whole life.

it doesn't matter what the surrounding aspects are of the picture, if it contains that 'hole' structure, I'm getting dizzy.

honeycombs, the inside of a pomegranate, the lattice-work of the interior of bones ... the more grouped and clustered together, the worse I feel.

it's like my brain can't process the concentric-icity of clusters of holes.

weird

/I would get sick in class when looking at cross-sections on slides of things that appeared in that 'hole' fashion

There's also a good reason you're single and spending your time staring at jpegs of dried lotus flowers on a Friday night.

- Fear the Hole is the name of my Morrisey tribute band.

I wouldn't worry.

However, irrational fear of things which were once associated with holes is often the smart choice.

A. They're afraid of Dick's.

It's not specifically the lotus seed holes that bug me - it's the overall  wrongness.  Instinctual aversion to physical maladies is pretty normal.  Bundles of pipes or rows of dots don't elicit any response, but superimpose those same things over a picture of a person in a manner that appears that they are physically part of them?  Immediate revulsion.  Similar to, but not the same as the Uncanny Valley.

With that said, it's always fun to force myself to look and see how long I can take it before having to turn away.

For those people who have response to simple things like honeycombs and bundles of pipe, I imagine that royally sucks.  The most innocent things in the world can trigger nausea.

The honeycomb one doesn't bother me, but I saw a picture a few years a back(10 years, maybe), where a woman's nipples were replaced with these  holes,and...GAH. I need to go throw up now.

Be wary of the hole, for it can mesmerize you with it's many pleasures and follies.

yes. and even though that's a photoshop, I know exactly which picture you are referring to. that one makes me blow chunks.

Cheesehead_Dave: [i540.photobucket.com image 380x434]

and that's kind of crazy, but hte artificial aspect of it makes it less squeamish.

but yes, like those photos of peoples knees after kneeling in frozen peas send my stomach churning. and even if they are photoshopped, there is still a little nausea involved.

and a few weeks ago there was a disgusting video making the internet rounds of a dog infected with some sort of larvae and the larvae sacks were covering about 30% of the dog's body and the 3rd world 'vet' was just squeezing out these worm larvae...

all of that I could handle, but not the configuration that the larvae were making on the dog's skin.

it has to do with the circular/round 3d depth pattern. I can stare
all day into a Fibonacci sequence and be fascinated. but to look at a close up of a wasp's nest for a few seconds, no thank you.

Yeah, I came here specifically for that image. So I could be utterly creeped out by it. Because I'm bored.

OK... I might have some sort of problem.

I was traumatized by the same image, and the sick, twisted part of me was secretly hoping to see it here, although I guess it would be considered NSFW, or at least not safe for sanity.

Too late, the idea that the most common categories of phobia are hyperactivations of evolved survival mechanisms about stuff that in some circumstances might actually kill you (spiders, snakes, disease, heights) is not news to the psychological community.
