The tragedy here is they took his car.  The pre-2009 BMW 3.0si Z4's with manual transmissions may be the best non-M series cars BMW ever built.  They are amazing driver's cars.  In 2009 they went to hard tops, extended the noses, and went to the garbage turbo-charged engines they use now rather than the prior naturally aspirated inline 6's.  The result was an expensive, bloated monster of a roadster that does nothing well except make the yuppies that drive them look conceited.

The top speed is electronically limited to 156.  That doesn't mean he actually went that fast.  And in Manhattan, I'm 100% certain he did not.

And unless there's some glaring evidence that's been withheld from the public, I'd like to reiterate MrJesus' sentiment, good luck with this one, prosecutor.

It doesn't say that he went 155 mph, just that the car does. In fact, he did 26.5 miles in 24 minutes, just slightly better than an average speed of 60 mph.

Couple things:
1. Didn't see anything reckless
2. That was some awful slow speeding, no where near the cars potential
3. Terrible music
4. He stopped for traffic lights
5. Has police work really became sitting at a desk watching YouTube videos?

Here's another fun video.  Ferrari racing through Paris.
This movie is pretty good too, if you're into illegal driving / riding activities. 12 O'Clock Boys.

I enjoy street race videos, most of them are just so poorly produced. Suggestions?

I don't race anymore due to valuing my freedom / health and it's wildly inconsiderate. It's just  undeniably exciting to step on the accelerator and blow by fellow drivers like they're standing still.

You can practically hear a**holes pucker as you blow by over the hiss of a turbo spooling up. Going 120 over the speed limit will make you laugh like the Joker on crack, guaranteed.

The tragedy here is that shiatbirds like him are the ones that often own these types of cars in the first place. It is aggravating to no end to so-often see some shiat-for-brains little twat like that driving around in a car that should be in the hands of someone who actually respects and deserves it.

Ok, just watched the video. I think the cops thought that the sped up video was real time or something.

So the video was sped up to 4.3x and I think he was going 15 to 20 mph faster than the other cars. And that would be a high estimate.

Google N54 and HPFP failures. I'm not aware of any class action lawsuits ever having been brought against BMW for their inline 6's.  As for handling, even BMW fan boys can't defend it.  Read here.

BMW was a wonderful car company until the early 2000's.  But then they bloated out all their cars and set their sights on beating Honda with their entry levels instead of Porsche.

I am not a BMW fan boy by any stretch, but the warranty on the HPFP for the N54 has been extended to 10 years 120,000 miles.  The failure rate is pretty small and when it does happen, the warranty for that product was extended.  This was addressed before the class action suits began.  Those using the reason why they had the aftermarket ECU reflash are using HPFP issue as an excuse rather than why the reflashed it in the first place.

This!  This little shiatbird actually drove the car fast when he was young.  You could be the king of the carpool lane if that smarmy whippersnapper hadn't've taken that car first!  Doesn't he know he's supposed to drive it no more than nine miles an hour above the speed limit?  That it performs best when slowly driven by a guy in his mid-forties creeping around the nearest college campus?

Don't forget the sunscreen up top.

I am well qualified to reply to this thread . . . as a BMW fanboy and a N54 owner (among others).

Sure, some BMWs are bloated, but every auto maker has those in the lineup. You just have to search the line for the enthusiast car. That "garbage turbo" is phenomenal in the 135i Msport. And this is coming from a guy who has replaced the HPFP, injectors, electric water pump, O2 sensors and LPFS. But you know what, the car is 3200lbs and with some ECU tuning, straight exhaust (no cats), intake and meth injection, the car is a monster. just under 500hp at the crank and it can be thrown around corners with gusto. I wish I had the LSD the 1M has though. The 135 is as great as a car BMW has ever made and I suspect the new M4 will be up there as well.

The N54 gets a raw deal . . . the engine is fantastic, the power is available throughout the power band and with straight pipes sounds like an F1 car . . . it's just all the surrounding things that suck and give it a bad rap (seriously BMW, who sold you that HPFP?)

The other BMWs in the driveway right now are an e24 and a MINI R53.

You didn't read shiat about any article, or watch the video.  The top speed of the car is 155mph.  The average speed he acquired in the video to acquire that time was 66mph.  You always believe the over sensationalizing the media gives out to the sheep in the Prius' who are too scared to drive?

I don't condone what the guy did but the article made it sound like he was Fast and Furious.  Do a little more research before showing your ignorance.

I WISH Vancouver would start doing that. Imagine if you can: about 100,000 Chinese FOBs on the road, and growing everyday...............Its some of the worst traffic in North America without that factor, although it does make for some hilarious traffic accidents.

Not overly impressive until you realize that he wasn't even on highway for 57 blocks between downtown and where the west side hwy starts and had to stop at 6 lights along that part.
Reckless yes, but still entertaining and a fun video, as someone that has driven those highways and streets a lot.

What I want to know is:
(1) how somebody would even create a credible fake video that looked like this but involved no violations  (Convince everybody on in the city to move at 50% speed?)
(2) why you think lawsuits against the police for investigating something that reasonably appears to be criminal behavior would be anything other than a waste of time.

1) it doesn't have to be shot in the middle of a city. A less frequented road, country side or empty highway. The way I'd do it is probably rev the engine, show the speedometer at zero by the passenger, the passenger who is shooting turns to show the road, I then shoot the car forward (which can be visually and audibly enhanced but only up to the speed limit, with the passenger/screaming his/her head off. at that moment I put in a print out of the speedometer photoshopped at some insane speed, which the passenger then shows on screen.
2) I'm not targeting investigations, I'm targeting false arrests (and based on the comments in the case of this article, seizure of assets). I just think it is lazy police work to simply base cases on a video found online with no other evidence. This to me is akin to cases where people have been tried for underage drinking when they had a pic on their Facebook showing them with a liqueur bottle. How do you know that the underage person wasn't just holding it for someone, or had refilled it with a soft drink?! I myself have been interrogated as a kid (albeit by family) for a picture that showed me posing with a cigarette in my mouth as a young teen.
In this digital age, too many people (though mostly idiots) have been convicted for things where the only piece of evidence was a video or picture, this sounds too much like self-incrimination to me -fifth amendment anyone?- and again is lazy police work. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a criminal sympathizer, I'm solely talking about victimless crimes such as in the story. Idiots who film themselves trashing private property SHOULD be convicted (and ridiculed).

/(brackets FTW!)

RINO: IANAL, but in my neck of the woods, police can't pull you over or arrest you for speeding unless they witness you in act.

I forget the highway but after a recent trip to MD my GF got a ticket in the mail a few weeks later. they have speed cameras on the highway. no different then a cop zapping you with a radar gun except they just pull the video later, get your license plate, then mail you a ticket. its no different then  monitoring by aircraft. time from mark A to mark B / distance they calculate your speed. its the concern some folks have over ezpass. if you can make it from toll A to B in 15 minutes and the distance is 20 miles then you were speeding. I imagine they can do the same thing here. if he got from one street to another street in the video in X amount of time then he had to have been doing X speed. Not to mention they have traffic cams that may have gotten him going thru that red light. I dont think they'll have any problem prosecuting this guy but more than likely he wont get a trial. they'll hit him with running a red light, speeding and several reckless driving charges and he'll plead out to 2 or 3 charges.

Here's the thing judges have discretion on a) accepting pleas to reduced charges and b) they have a range of sentences they can give. the judge in my town used to make a speech to anyone who was up on a charge of passing a school bus or failure to yield to a pedestrian. If you plead guilty the sentence will be X. If you plead not guilty and  after a trial I find you guilty I give out the maximum sentence allowed because you risked someone's life to get somewhere faster and I won't tolerate it.  Most people plead guilty.

In NY state the penalty for unsafe lane change is 3 points and reckless driving is 5 points. Speeding is as follows, but i think its pretty obvious that even 3 tickets could put this guy into suspension territory and thats if his record is already clean.

Exceeding the maximum speed limit by 1-10 mph:3 points

Exceeding the maximum speed limit by 11-20 mph:4 points

Exceeding the maximum speed limit by 21-30 mph: 6 points

Exceeding the maximum speed limit by 30-40 mph: 8 points

Exceeding the maximum speed limit by more than 40 mph:11 points
