Pretty well-rounded list.  News, sports, drama, comedy.

A little too US-centric.

I'd have moved Miracle on Ice up since it is the greatest (US?) sports moment in the history of sports moments. But I don't have any real complaints about the list. Only comment is being amazed at how often Nixon appears.

Not a bad list but they should do news events separate.  And no Honeymooners...

I saw every one from the moon landing on. The only thing I can think of that they left out (and they did mention it) was the Challenger blowing up in January 86. I had just graduated college the month before and was about to start my first job the month after so I was sitting around at home and my brother yelled at me to come see this. I didn't see it live but they replayed it a bunch of times. Chilling, almost unreal.

Not a bad list, I don't know if I'd change any of those.

Perhaps some honorable mentions like the night we as America lost our god damn minds over a nipple, or the day when thousands of thousands of children invited to watch a shuttle launch live in their classroom witnessed death.

Too much Nixon. Fark that guy.

Challenger explosion easily deserves to be on this list. No question.

And it's amazing to think that all of them were produced on sound stages - that's the real magic of television.

I'm a little surprised that the Challenger didn't make the list.  Back in elementary school I remember my school wheeled in TV's or gathered in larger rooms to watch the first teacher go into space... then quickly turned the TV's off and tried to avoid awkward questions when they realized what happened.

Ineligible due to the awkward presence of a very uncomfortable Candian

My God. Someone actually did a list article and took it seriously. There's no obvious failure point. I really don't have too many quibbles with it, though I might move McClure down or replace it with Challenger.

Though I suppose I should mention the day The Creator made a guest appearance on I've Got A Secret and regretted inventing it. His only time on TV.

It was kinda both.  It was a wide flat disk that looked sorta like a 'sun' that attached on the nipple in the middle, allowing it to be seen as the center of the jewelry.  the radiating sun rays had gaps through the middle so the areola could be seen partially in the gaps.

Yes. Lucy was white and Ricky was Cuban. Not Black / White interracial, but interracial none the less.

I was in high school at the time. A local teacher at a different high school was one of the 10 finalists to go into space. Local news sent a crew to his classroom to watch the launch with him. He broke down crying in front of the students, cameras, everyone when he realized what had happened.

Still amazes me that whiny MASH finale continues to get so much respect.  It sums up everything that went wrong with the show after it stopped being funny.  The episode where they killed Henry---far better choice.

/First episode of SNL deserves to be on the list

I'm sending you my therapy bill for resurrecting a well suppressed memory.

What kind of farked up holidays did the writers have? It just wasn't Christmas until grandpa brought out the Playboys and whipped one off in the living room.

It's called a nipple guard.  It goes in back of the piercing.

Not only should Challenger be on the list, it should probably be #3. I'd also like to say that 9/11 should be #1, but I was only 1 when we landed on the moon, so I might not be the best judge.

2013-09-06 01:33:52 PM
I was pleasantly surprised by that list as well.  Nicely done, very few quibbles.  I'd've added the L.A. Riots/Rodney King beating and Challenger.

NSCSB: I grew up in Orlando, and you could see the shuttles go up unless it was really overcast.  (Like now.) In school we used to go out to watch the launches.  For some reason my class didn't go out the day of the Challenger explosion, but a lot of other classes did.  They looked rather ill afterwards.

End NSCSB.
