It better not be a Battlefield Earth remake.

I'd actually be more interested in seeing it if he WASN'T in it

/sorry, Will, but you're getting tiresome

Good. It's a smart move. Almost everything he has lined up right now is a sequel, but this is the one that makes the most sense as far as his movie star brand is concerned.

That makes sense.  Even if he doesn't start in it, in case the script and all are too far along with someone else in mind, he should at least have a role.

I won't watch it unless Jeff Goldblum solves the next alien crisis with an iWatch.

So if I've read my movie script playbook correctly, and I think I have, Will will be separated from Vivica or whomever plays her role, his son will be angsty and the only person who can save him is Jeff Goldblum, who's still married to his wife and is fine and dandy.  And then another swarm of aliens comes and Earth, in its weakened state, has to pull off a miracle, which they do because of the magic of teh internetz or something.

I would like to see this:

After recovering from the attacks seen in the last movie, humanity experiences a renaissance in technology gleamed from the alien ships. Spaceflight, power creation, weaponry, coffee machines, you name it. In this time humanity has discovered that the alien fleet that attacked earth was not thier entire population. It was simply the militaristic arm of their civilization.

You see, the previous planet that they conquered had been settled. As they ran out of resources to strip, they took aim at their next target: earth. The main body of their military set off while the rest waited. Only this time things didnt go as well as usual.

In the time after the war on earth, and after the discovery of this "home" planet, humans came together as one; a truly united species, under one single unifying idea: revenge.

As the movie starts we see humanity making its final preperations to make the trek to that planet. A much older will smith leads a spacecarrier battle group. Jeff goldblum leads a space research vessel with his macbook. Humans have become the invaders.

Independence Day 2: Blood of Patriots

/oh say can you die

2013-09-06 08:27:04 AM
Also the president from the first one is emperor of earth. He makes an incredible speech before stepping down and joining the invading force as a pilot on one of the carriers in the hours before they lift off.

/let freedom ring

From what I've heard, this is not that far off from what they're thinking. Not quite the revenge aspect though, but 25 Earth years later, we've figured out how to use the alien technology against their second attack wave.

Also, the President's daughter has become a bit of a hottie now.

My advice to Will Smif is to go small. Get with Spike Lee or Jon Singleton and do something low budget and personal.

Yeah, that's what I was thnking, but Smith really skipped that part of his acting career on his way up; the only small-budget film he did was Six Degrees of Separation.  Also, Spike Lee couldn't get funding to open a Chuck E Cheese at this point; he's burned so many bridges in Hollywood that he couldn't get an Inside Man sequel off the ground and his next release will be a remake of Oldboy (not joking).

I still wonder why Spike chose to go all scorched earth when he got a few rebuffs, it's not like he didn't still command some respect but walking around acting like you're the greatest farking director that ever lived when you're just getting your footing?

Dude....

My money's on Pinterest or Etsy distracting the aliens long enough for JG to plant a logic bomb using an iPad. (As luck would have it, alien starships use 802.11b and WEP.)

Yeah, in a lot of ways it felt like his first really mature film (Malcolm X aside) and showed what he could do if he moved away from his pet themes.  I have a feeling he thought he was selling out because it didn't contain his pet themes.

Please no! I watched the remake of Karate Kid and will not go to any of the kids movies since he sucks at acting.

Will Smith needs to stick to acting. He is a failure at producing or doing anything else with movies.

There's a lot of aspects that they could use with this movie...

What happens to a world culture when most of the population gets annihilated because they were in huge cities?  An instinctive push toward spreading out population?

What does this do to the gender equality thing?  Would we see a push toward "Men build things, women get pregnant and make babies.  For Humanity!"

I imagine a lot of alien tech's been retro-engineered and we're well into using organo-tech on a regular basis, but what if there's more to it than that?  Layers of hidden tech at the cellular level that can screw humanity up yet again with the flip of a distant switch?

Did all the aliens die?  What if one of the big city-killer craft crash landed somewhere...Australia, into the Pacific, Antarctica...Two front fight?

Do we see Humanity slowly changing into a fascist "Humanity First" society similar to that of Starship Troopers?  Do we fight it?  SHOULD we fight it?

I like your ideas, but I have a feeling that all opportunities for creative speculation on the post-apocalyptic fate of humankind will be skipped over in favour of blowing shiat up.

its 25 years from now and the surviving aliens are placed into camps or "districts" to be treated as 2nd class citizen as we try to learn their technology..  Will Smith befreinds an Alien who just wants to go "home" but spills his drink on Will and infects him with a virus.   His friend says he can cure him but it will take a few years to get the cure from his planet..  so Will helps him get off the planet and waits for his return.

I went to see "Independence Day" at the theater when it was first released.  I needed something to take my mind off a heavy duty and complicated conversion on the item master database that I had running that weekend.  The company was so f*cking cheap, we didn't have a development environment with enough disk space to test it in.  I had to Bill O'Reilly it:  DO IT LIVE!

The movie was so cliched and awful, it did not relax me.  In fact, it made me think more and more about the logic in my conversion process.... and I suddenly realized, in the dark of the theater, that I had a potential problem in one part of my conversion code.

So, I finally relaxed, watched the rest of that crap movie, went home, logged in and fixed the bug.

Thanks, Will.  Keep up the bad acting, along with your untalented crotchfruit.  Without you, my Monday morning would have been a bunch of engineers coming down to the Data Processing department with lit torches and pitchforks.

/Will not be seeing "Independence Day 2" if it comes out, even if you promise to bring Harry Connick Jr. back from the dead and kill him again.

Hopefully, they will address more than just "what kind of cool tech can we get out of theses downed ships?" Along with the political and social implications, I'd like to see what sort of  environmental effects of gigatons of material burning in the atmosphere and impacting on the surface. Is there a sort of "nuclear winter"? Have there been lots of extinctions? Did a few mountain-sized chunks of the mothership land in the oceans and send out tsunami that made the 2004 Indian Ocean tidal waves look like ripples in a bathtub?

And if you are fighting a species that has no interest communication, cooperation, or co-existence, then you had better become "Humanity First."

2013-09-06 11:49:27 AM
This thread has some good ideas about the social, technological and political ramifications of surviving an alien assault. Unfortunately, none of that will come into play.  When has Hollywood ever really understood sci-fi in that regards.

My guess,  Pullman will still be a very popular president and the US is rebuilding nicely. They even rebuilt the Lincoln Monument and shiat like that for some reason. He'll still think of his wife though and have a hidden sadness.

Will and his wife are having issues. Their kids (played by his kids) will be rebellious. Those his son shows promise to being a great fighter/leader, he will reject it and listen to heavy mental rap music.

Jeff will be working for a university or think thank developing crazy tech based on the shiat we found in the alien rubble.

Then, alien ships will be detected via our satellites as coming this way. A lot of shiat gets blown up and we all feel good about being Americans.

If they plan a third movie, then the aliens will conquer the Earth this time around (for some reason, though they seemed content just killing everything last time) so that the resistance on the ground, led by Will's kids can save the day.

Will and Pullman will have one last dogfight together to say the day. I bet Pullman dies at the end heroically.
