WOW Yahoo's logo looks about as cool as a certain 2007 redesign of a popular website of which their name escapes me

2013-09-06 03:51:04 AM
Is Yahoo positioning itself to become the next Huffington Post?

Also, I'm not sure how people are raising kids these days, but:

McClain prefaced her post by writing, "I didn't get to talk to him before I left for work today, so I left this on his bedroom door."

That's the kind of thing I think it's worth waking your son up early to talk about.  A note is nice, but really, a note?  My mother used to leave notes on my door about where to find food.  If I had a facebook post that said something that significant I think more than a note would be warranted.

Lsherm: That's the kind of thing I think it's worth waking your son up early to talk about.

90% of the time when you "come out" these days, it's for yourself. Your folks know, or at least very strongly suspect.

To be REALLY cool she should get him a rent boy and some Molly.

No, that would be the crabs. A200 Crab remover and Scalp rejuvenator will fix that in a heartbeat.

Pretty much. Like the dad mentioned in the article who wrote, "I've known you were gay since you were six."

2013-09-06 06:54:38 AM
Wasn't there a very similar letter like this a year ago?

That's the one I think I'm thinking of. "Pick up some eggs" or some such was in there too.

The letters are very similar.

Yeah, he comes home and she is laying on his bed, snapping one off to gay porn.

This is a real letter to a real person that is not fake

2013-09-06 07:04:37 AM
Fake.  It's biologically impossible for a straight parent to have a gay child.

It could well be.  What better way to advertise for a new boyfriend by having your mother write a nice letter accepting your homosexuality and then publicizing it?

It's also a sad commentary that the "Coolest Mom EVAR" award goes to some woman just for accepting her son's homosexuality and telling him she still loves him anyway.

I know some parents can be real dicks about their child's homosexuality, but is acceptance really so rare that this rates "Coolest Mom EVAR"?

This totally never happened.. Manufactured news..

2013-09-06 07:25:11 AM
I'm bisexual.

When I can't get it for nothing, I buy it.

2013-09-06 07:29:35 AM
Right, it was a complete shock that her son was gay!?

So this woman is encouraging her son to go to hell? Some mother.
They both need some Jesus.

FTFA: On August 30, Michelle Conway McClain posted a photo of a letter she wrote to her son Zach Gibson on her Facebook page.

She posted her own letter to her son on her own Facebook page?  This screams "Hey everyone!  Look at me!  I'm the coolest mom on the block!"

2013-09-06 07:40:04 AM
That kids face just screams 'drama club geek'.  There is no way she didn't know.

2013-09-06 07:44:17 AM
I think the coolest mom ever was the one who asked me to give her change for a twenty in all ones so she could give them to her son as he was celebrating his 21st birthday.

2013-09-06 07:47:02 AM
Nice story. I'll be glad when the day comes when it's no more a story than a child coming out straight. It won't happen in our lifetimes, but how cool will it be that no one cares? I can't imagine disowning my children because they were born with brown eyes instead of blue ... or, you know, who they love ... I'm not going to lie and say I'm not relieved on their behalves that they are straight. I'd hate to think of all the bodies I'd have to hide -- starting with family members -- if anyone talked shiat about who my babies love.

/not internet tough mom
//would totally tell off then shun anyone over one of my kids
///my kids are adults and don't need my protection nor approval -- but they will always have it

2013-09-06 08:02:23 AM
Manufactured... like all those heart warming letters and videos people post on FB all the time.  If true, cool, but doubtful this is real.

2013-09-06 08:02:34 AM
OK, I'm "old school", so don't jump my ass and call me a bigot or a hater.....I just wanna know if it is suddenly just "cool" to be gay or bi.........seems like a lot of it going around these days.  I couldn't believe when we went to my daughters high school for a function the number of kids (and teachers) she would point out as being gay or bi.  Even after 30 some years since I graduated I only have heard about maybe 8 out of a class of over 200 that have "come out".  These days the number seems to be 4 to 5 times that.  I mean, I'm not a fan, but, chacun à son goût.......just wondering.

Short answer: "cool" has nothing to do with it.  Thankfully we as a culture are more accepting of people's sexual orientation so it is easier for someone to come out without negative consequences.

Really short answer: you are bigot and/or hater

/welcome to fark

I'm scared to click on it.  I really don't want to know any mother's response to news her son came on Facebook.

2013-09-06 09:00:57 AM
Meh, If she was a "cool" mother the note would have said something to the effect of "I'm glad you finally decided to come out - I've known for years."

/Good parents always know

gfid: I know some parents can be real dicks about their child's homosexuality, but is acceptance really so rare that this rates "Coolest Mom EVAR"?

i have a friend (man) that has a child (daughter) with an ex.  said ex became a lesbian some time after she broke up with my friend.  One day, the daughter was visiting with her father, and the question of homosexuality came up.  Daughter said "mom says that I can love whoever I want, male or female".  Father says "not if you want to keep having a dad".

I am not going to say acceptance is rare, exactly - but fact is that your average person simply doesn't like it and no matter what the media would have you believe, people are not just falling all over themselves to make gay people feel accepted.

/don't care if you are gay or straight.  just don't be a dick.

2013-09-06 09:16:59 AM
I'm quite sure I would have woke my child to speak to them directly about my acceptance rather than write a note. I find it sad that coming out and being accepted by ones parents is news people get all excited about.

/thanks to stpauler for the Archer reference, i came for it and am leaving pleased

Or she could be saying "Hey asshats, having a gay son is no big deal... and y'all should try being this accepting."

One of my former supervisors has a son that I'm 99% sure is gay. She's SO in denial. Funny thing is, she had no problem ragging on her sister-in-law for having issues accepting that her (the sister-in-law's) sons were gay.

2013-09-06 09:27:54 AM
An acquaintance of mine announced to his father he was gay; "about what?" replied his father and carried on into the other room.

/yes his father did realise what his son was saying

I'm about 10 years younger than you, and I can assure you that there are more of your classmates who just don't feel comfortable with announcing their orientation.

There's a lot to be said for honesty. Think about how bad it would suck to be gay, but living a lie because you' be shunned by society if you admitted who you were.

Times have changed. In the '80s, my parents threw me out of the house and disowned me. Good for them.

This is seriously what I think may be happening>  A sheep farmer will tell you that if you get too many sheep in a pen that they will "turn gay" (i.e. hump others of the same sex)....hamsters will do the same (and eat each other) so its a natural path towards population control.   I think we have started to reach a critical population density on the earth that may be turning more people's  "auto population controls" to ON in their brains.  May even explain rising murder rates??

That said, yes I think some of it just because it is more socially acceptable than it ever has been

Why anyone cares what another person does with their junk is beyond me*

*with the caveat, as long as their junk does not infringe on another's rights
