I think George Orwell is more appropriate for this farker to quote rather than jeebus; All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others - seems appropriate for this Farmer Napoleon.  I'd like to see arseholes like this subsist on food stamps for a month. No food already in the cupboard, no gifts from friends, no harvesting from the farm (after all, how many on food stamps own a farm?). He'd be eating his family within a week and calling it a mercy killing.

I'd just like to see him subsist on his own income instead of being a welfare queen.

I still don't understand the GOP end plan..make guns cheap and plentiful but make food expensive and scarce...why? That seems like a very bad idea to me.

Perhaps they assume the scarce guns will be used against those filthy libs who are hoarding all the food in their rich gives-more-than-takes agriculturally sound blue states/economic centers.  I imagine gun ownership per capita is probably higher in rural GOP-leaning areas than it is in urban/suburban settings, anyways.

2013-09-05 04:21:39 PM
Oh, right, it's the libs that are engaging in class warfare, not this asshat who is encouraging his derpy constituents to vilify poor people who often work but aren't paid a living wage.

I like that we feed and house murderers and rapists, but poor people are morally inferior and should starve on the street. What is with the need to have an underclass squirming in grinding poverty?

You'd think the guy would be in favor of giving money to people to buy food.  That he presumably grows and then sells.

But but but it is the job of the American people, the good Xian folk, to handle that!

Yep, that Christian War on poverty has moved into it's third decade of warfare with that Christian War on Not Having Enough Prosperity.

Well, technically there is a big printing press in Washington that continually prints money over and over. It's called the Mint. If he takes the 14th Street Bridge, Fincher passes it every day on his way to work.

Actually, it is the Bureau of Printing and Engraving. The Mint, which doesn't make paper currency but only coins, is in Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Denver.

Before everyone gets all back-slappy and high-fivey about the House Republicans being giant pricks because the want to rape SNAP, you might look at the bill the damn Senate passed which also cuts SNAP, just not as much.

Which is pants-on-head, underwear-on-the-outside levels of stupid given the multiplier effect of SNAP dollars, but who listens to liberals about economics?

And I could have written this better but I have a cold and I'm cranky as hell so I don't care. Shut up.

Sure, it did cut money to SNAP, but I'd guarantee Reid could not have invoked cloture without making very modest cuts that got Republicans on board. And there's a big difference between cutting $4 billion and cutting $40 billion (or $130 billion like was in Paul Ryan's budget that every Republican in both chambers supported).

If Reid had any balls, he's bring up a deal to cut all farm subsidies in exchange for abolishing, say, the Dept. of Education.  There's absolutely no danger in this for liberals, because it's a 100% certainty that every red state senator except Rand Paul would vote against it.  It'd give Democrats years worth of ammunition and collectively explode the heads of the teabaggers.  But it'll never happen.

and that's the problem I have with the Senate version as it passed.  SNAP is a kick-ass government program.  It doesn't belong on the chopping block at all.  I don't disagree with the rest of what you said, to be clear.  I just think it's ridiculous that the Senate ended up where they are.

The House is just an asylum at this point.

The justification for farm subsidies is different than the justification for food stamps.  Farm subsidies are a way to regulate pricing by artificially reducing supply.
I guess you could argue that food stamps encourage some people not to work so that there's less competition in the job market.  You'd probably have to spend a whole lot more money on them if that was the case tough.

Bah! The free market will keep your food safe. If a processor sells a bad product, the knowledge of that misdeed will cause consumers to avoid his products and drive him out of business.

Because of various anecdotal stories about people abusing them.

I wouldn't dispute that either. Sometimes, compromise involves holding your nose a bit. $4 billion is bad, but it's not crushingly awful.
