I don't have to look at their 2012 predictions, I just have to see that one of them picked the Eagles to win the Super Bowl and instantly all of their opinions are invalidated.

I bet on the playoff teams by which competitive team at the start of the season has the best HGH supplier.

Bill Barnwell actually thinks the Chiefs are going to beat out the Broncos in the AFC West? Whatever he's smoking, don't give me any.

Jamison Hensley is definitely wrong.

I think that's more a vote of confidence against the Broncos. Who, with just a little bad luck, could suck very much

I'm a Cowboys fan and I think the guy who picked the Cowboys to win it all is full of sh!%

2013-09-05 09:55:54 AM
Almost all of them picked the team that went 15-1 the previous year?! (Drops coffee mug) BAH GAWD

2013-09-05 09:57:24 AM
I can't believe half of those morons are picking the Steelers out of the AFC North.

Omar will be lucky to coach the team to 7-9 and that's *if* he starts actually watching the games.

Tomlin is high on my list of coaches with superior talent who consistently underachieve. Bylsma and Boudreau are high up there too.

That Jamison guy is an idiot.

With a little bad luck they could suck? Well that only describes the Broncos and not the 31 other teams for sure.

Superior talent? They've got the third best roster in their own division. And they were in the Super Bowl three years ago with pretty much the same old ass players.

2013-09-05 09:59:02 AM
In all fairness, a handful of them picked the Ravens to make the Super Bowl.

Well, look what assume does...

The link goes to the 2012 predictions. There goes my reading comprehension star for the week.

At least there's only one moron picking the Steelers this year.

That was their 2012 prediction.

A lot more variation in opinion this year, which is interesting. Not enough picked the niners thought.

If you applied the same scrutiny to economic and business forecasts we'd all be better off for completely ignoring them.

Picking the season is retarded.  It's IMPOSSIBLE to get this right and if you did, it's a fluke.  Tell me, what player will be horribly maimed between now and Halloween?  There will be at least one, who is it?  Don't know?  Well that is what you have to predict, with accuracy, to pick the season.  There is simply too many variables in Football and not enough games in order to make any predictions that don't come through your anus.

So how about we just sit back, get a beer, and watch the games?

and he is from Baltimore.

Not one picked the 49ers to win the NFC.

4 of them picked the Ravens to win the AFC championship.

But not one of them picked your 2012 SUPER BOWL CHAMPION RAVENS!

In a league where the talent is so distributed and so close in skill (and having a statistically short season), it's exceptionally hard to predict.  Typically 1/3 of playoff teams turn over from the previous year, and it's a crap shoot to pick them . There's always 2 or 3 "sure" playoff teams that crater and don't make it.  Then there's always that 12-4 or 13-3 team that falls early in the playoffs, and that insane 9-7 that makes it to the conference championship.

I just enjoy the roller coaster.  Picks are a fools errand at this stage.

Overall, predictions really mean nothing... I went to Vegas quite a few years back and saw my teams odds for going to the superbowl before the season even started at 27-1... that year they actually went and lost to the Broncos

Go Falcons!

The idea is that these "journalism" outlets can dictate the narrative and keep you from demanding more comprehensive analysis of sports if they can keep you preoccupied with unwinnable arguments that can be revisited so long as they need a talking point.  "Who is the best player of all-time?"  "Who is the best team in football?"  "Here's our experts' predictions!"  All with the idea that this content is completely disposable, so it never actually has to advance the debate.  It just adds content to a web site or a television slate.

The ruse is that it empowers the individual viewer, because everyone has an opinion on these topics.  But in reality, it keeps you from engaging topics which are actually valuable to learning more about the sports you're watching and playing, and keeps you focused on pointless, unwinnable topics which most people are grossly underqualified to comment on in the first place.  (Notice that ESPN polls never offer "No Opinion" is an answer?  Too bad.  They want to know which of the remaining teams will make the NBA playoffs, or which unranked player will win the Women's U.S. Open.)

(I really hope this has anything to do with what you said, I'm really, really tired right now.)

A huge fan of Mike and Mike here, but remember two things: Golic's son is in the Steelers (last I heard, unless he got cut), and Greeny's KOD overrides anything else. Hey, even HE admits his picks suck.

All but three of the experts are predicting the Falcons are going to win the NFC South? It's going to be a lot more competitive than that. Carolina looked good in the preseason and the Saints are always contenders.

For the season opener, your Ole Buddy Wayne put out a pork shoulder this morning at about 7am. Charcoal and hickory smoked, low and slow at 225F. The missus is making up an Eastern Carolina pepper vinegar sauce and homemade coleslaw and potato salad. Gonna be some good eats at Wayne's place tonight football fans! Bring a plate and a six-pack!

Most of their division winners were correct and I know I wasn't predicting the Ravens to go all the way.  Rodgers and Brady were safe boring MVP picks.  This year, 49ers, Broncos, Pats, Packers, and Texans are all safe picks for division winners.  Only a great fool would pick a wildcard out of the NFC north.  A Broncos-49ers matchup for the superb owl is probably the safest pick, except that the Superbowl loser typically bombs the next year.  One cheap shot to Kaepernick's knees is all it will take to end things in SF.

Thanks to the wonders of the internet, there are a few excellent resources out there.
